  1. I did hear about practicing half rack all week and Callahan's excuse for this was "that how we did it in the NFL".....not surprising. I didnt hear anything about the squats, but i did hear that they completely change our workout method. I think it was something along the lines of they were gonna go for more strength training instead of speed. I think i heard they really didnt even do much running over the summer and jsut lifted weights. This would make sense considering the players we have seen gain a lot of muscle but no speed, or actually lose speed. Barry Turner comes to mind immediately, he was a pure speed rusher his freshmen year and now seems to have lost a step or two.
  2. Stars have nothing to do with who coaches play or recruit. Do you really think that coaches around the country are getting on rivals and saying "ok, this guy have 5 stars we have to go after him." Coaches recruit kids based on their film, how they perform at camps and what the needs of the team are. I dont want the NU coaches not going after a kid because he has too many stars or not enough stars, they way everyone is talking it sounds like no one wants a 5 star recruit. I want the most talented players that wil play hard for NU and that are very coachable(doesnt matter if he has 5 stars or two stars). Right now thouhg it does seem like out coaches recruit to much based on talent and not enough based on heart and coachablilty. (Which is what they do in the NFL, hmm..... i wonder why this is happening.)
  3. You may be right in that hiring Pelini will not guarentee good D or that hiring a O minded coach will not guarentee a bad D. However you have to think that hiring Pelini will give us a better shot at having a good rather than hiring say a Paul Johnson, whoes Navy team just gave up 63 to North Texas, or a better chance than Turner Gill considering Buffaloe sits 75 in that nation in total D. So is it guarenteed we would have a great D, No, but it would be more likely.
  4. Seriously Callahan wants to turn us into the Texas Tech of the North division, that alone should get him fired. He even reffered to Tech in his teleconference, ya T Tech has a great offense ever year, but how many times have they been in the hunt for the NC or even a Big XII title, maybe twice in 10 years. That right there is exactly what i dont want, Tech is probably one of my least favorite teams cause they are soft and dont play D. Not what Nebraska is about!!
  5. You really do have no idea do you. The only reason players are even allowed on the sidelines is because when TO took over the first thing he did was send a letter to all the former players saying they were welcomed at any home game. A bunch of former players have stated that under BC and SP they didnt even feel welcomed. Jason Peter who is on the Nebraksa All-Time team was told by the athletic department to "look somewhere else" when he told them he would pay double for USC tickets. And i have not heard a single thing about McBride talking to the players, or former players in the locker room. BC is not responsible for the sudden increase in restoring tradition at NU that is TO's doing. Seriously asianman i am trying not to take shots at you but you need to do some research before you get on here and start claiming this and that.
  6. Ok first of all i would like to say i am not bashing asianman here. I jsut have a deep love for my cornhuskers and cant stand to watch what Billy C has done to them. All i have to say is WOW and i cant understand how someone could actually think he is doing a good job. For me to go through all the reason why asianman is wrong would take up a few pages of typing and i need to go to bed. So instead i am going to post a link to some youtube videos that pretty explain why BC should be gone. Asianman I dont know if you are from Nebraska or not, but if you want to know what NU football is really about wwatch these project huskers part 1 and 2 videos it will give you the jist of it. Everytime i watch these i want to cry because it reminds me of how far we really have fallen. I think this video does the best in describing where we are right now. Especially listen to what Trev Alberts when he says "Its not ok for Nebraska to be headed in an OK direction" and right now under BC we arent even headed in an OK direction. Also listen to what Bo Pelini says in the interview after the Michigan St. Game when he says "I am gonna love up these players, they deserve all the credit". BC needs to take some lessons on how to do an interview from Pelini. You didnt hear Pelini say anything about how great his system is or anything, he gave all the credit to the kids and that is what a good coach should do.
  7. I thought the same thing, maybe Bowman really did something wrong and was being punished. But why wouldnt Callahan just say that Bowman was being punished for breaking team rules, or that Blue was just playing better than Bowman. Thats all he had to do and people wouldnt be speculating about this situation, but he says "Well, like I said, I'm just going to talk about the starters and players that did well," which just leads people to beleive that there was something wrong that he doesnt want to talk about.
  8. I think this would be terrible for our chances to get Pelini. I read in an article that LSU's AD was asked about the rumors regarding Les Miles possibly going to Michigan and he said that they would have a nice banquet for Miles if he left and then say hello to Bo Pelini. So if Miles leaves LSU you have to think Pelini would take that job over the NU job.
  9. Callahan is a very smart X's and O's type of guy and as long as he isnt the one in charge of all the players dont be to worried. I doubt he could even do to much damage from an assistants spot anyway.
  10. To answer the question that NMHUSKER first posted. I will stand behind whatever Tom does as long as he makes some change. If he keeps Callahan, which is a tiny possibilty, TO might be able to rationalize this, I will have a lot of doubts but will still support my huskers. However if he were to not make any changes and the entire staff is back next year, first i might lose my sanity, and if i dont i might have to start following the UNO Mavericks a little closer. Having siad that i highly highly doubt Callahan comes back next year. BC has jsut done to much to seperate himself from the tradition and people of Nebraska. Yes our offense has looked pretty good at some points and you can blame the D on Coz, but even if TO somehow looks past all the trouble on the field i think he still fires Callahan because of all the off-field crap. From the Doak Ostergard alligations, to the seperation from Nebraska's past, even to what his agent said. We have not heard Callahan say anything about what his agent said and if he truly doesnt think the same way his agent does he should publicly state this. So the on-field troubles combined with the off-field crap gets Callahan out of UNL as fast as he can ran with a few million dollars in his pocket.
  11. Come on freemason, you are acting like Pacman Jones is the top candidate for the job. Pelini might not be your top choice but its not like we are handing this program over to a criminal. Pelini is a proven winner, motivator and under TO's direction i think he can lead this program to great places.
  12. Ganz must have jsut seen the Grim Reeper, he looks terrified.
  13. Keller is a better NFL type QB, he has a better arm, taller, little better accuracy. Ganz on the other hand is probably a better college QB, he is probably smarter but still willing to take risk, tougher, more athletic. Callahan is an NFL guy and he is willing to admit this, so it is no wonder Callahan went with the NFL type QB. The same thing happened a few years ago at Texas with Major Applewhite and Chris Simms. According to NFL standars Simms was a far better prospect, but Applewhite just knew how to win and was a better QB in college. Mack Brown went witht he NFL kid in that situation also. Having said that, it is truly amazing what Ganz is doing with the offense right now.
  14. I was reading a great article in the OWH about Bo Pelini (LINK) and there was a quote in this article by Bo Pelini that pretty much sums up what makes him a great college coach and what Callahan has failed to realize as a college coach. "The Huskers were coming off a disastrous 2002 in which they crumbled under Blackshirt expectations, resulting in coordinator Craig Bohl's dismissal. During the first scrimmage of spring practice, Pelini ordered his defense into one very basic scheme for the entirety of practice. Won't the offense catch on and expose us, Husker defenders asked. Doesn't matter, Pelini said. Success starts with effort, not scheme. "Success starts with effort", that quote right there is one of the reasons i would love to have Pelini as our next coach. Pelini gets it, and Callahan jsut doesnt understand that college football is more about passion than it is about preparation. I am not saying that teams should jsut not prepare cause thats stupid, but you have to be prepared and then you have to be excited to play. Callahan thinks that if you do something all week then you will do it on saturday but this is not always the case in college football.
  15. While i would have loved to get Phillip Bates cause he could develope into a very good QB. He only completed 52.7% of his passes, thats not what i call and efficient passer. I could understand this if he was on a terrible team but Omaha North was very talented and he had Niles Paul to throw the ball to, and he still barely completed more than 5 throws out 10. I dont know if you know this or not but we have this kid running our scout team right now by the name of Zac Lee, and i think he is pretty good, i dont know you be the judge. -Zac Lee who stands 6-2 210 runs a 4.6 forty (he was a three year starter on the baseball team in highschool playing centerfield, centerfielders are usually one of the fastest kids on the team). He focused a lot on baseball in highschool so he only had one scholarship to play football out of highschool and that was from Navy, so the went to JC at San Francisco City College to play (One of the best JC's in California, this is the same college Maurice Purify came from). He greyshirted his first year there and last year was the starter. He did pretty good i think, he threw for 3,400 yards with 35 touchdowns with only 5 Int's and completed 64% of his passes, he also ran for 6 TD's. He led his team to a 10-2 record and an appearance in the California junior college title game. So while Bates is a good player and i would have loved to see him stay instate instead of going to Iowa St., I think Zac Lee will turn out to be pretty good and i wouldnt trade Lee for Bates if i had the chance.
  16. Obviously this isnt a dream job for a lot of coaches, but for just about every coach that has gotten any attention this is a pretty major step up from there current job. This is why it is a great job eventhough we are really down right now. -We are in a major conference that if ou go undeafeated and win the conference will almost be guarenteed to play for the NC. You cant say that for a MAC team and you might not even be able to say that in the Big East. The Big East is way up from what it used to be but still if you had 3 undeafeated teams, 1 from the Big XII, 1 from the Big East and one from the SEC or PAC 10, the team from the Big East would be on the outside looking in and would not get a chance at playing for the NC, because the team from those other conferences would get more repspect. (obviously depending on who they play in their non-conference games) -Nebraska will always be considered a major college football power, and will always have loads of tradition to fall back on. -Eventhough NU is never going to be able to pick their recruits like Texas, USC, and the Florida teams can, it is still much easier to recruit at Nebraska than it is at a lot of schools in the nation. -I would be willing to bet that a lot of people in the state of California could care less if USC wins or loses, I mean there are like 15 other schools to root for and a number of professional teams to follow in multiple sports. Same thing in Texas, Florida, and just about ever single other major college football program, I cant think of one college football power that doesnt have to fight another college or professional team for support. In Nebraska Husker football is the big show in the entire state, I mean if you a come UNL and lead this team to prominences you will be regarded as Nebraska legend, one of our previous coaches was selected as one of Nebraska's congressmen. While there is tremendous pressure here at NU there is also great reward. -You will have practically full support of not only the state but also the athletic department. It is great what the volleyball team is doing but this state is very unhappy because the football team is terrible right now. So the next coach will be granted just about every single resource the University has to restore this program.
  17. Callahan treats coaching like a teacher treats teaching math. Callahan thinks that if I get this player who can throw the ball like this and some OL who can block exactly this way and a RB who can run this fast, and if they all do exactly what i tell them their is no way anyone can stop them. He treats football like a math equation, he doesnt take into account that he is playing with college kids and sometimes kids play better than they should play. He doesnt take into account that if a kid is jacked up and ready to play he can play awesome even if he doesnt always know what he is doing out there. Callahan wants his players to be machines, he wants them to do exactly what he tells them, nothing more nothing less and it doesnt matter if they playing the Patriots they should have success. Its not a math equation though sometimes on the football field 2+2 doesnt equal 4 and when this occurs things like Stanford beats USC or App. St takes down Michigan and Callahan doesnt get this.
  18. I know you were all worried about people getting up set about this little subject and beleive me i am not upset about it. I can perfectly understand that giving DW a scholarship would have been a huge risk. But please somebody tell me how Callahan justified giving Robert Rands(5-7 160) a scholarship and couldnt take the risk of giving Woodhead one.
  19. Well you got me good there Huskers4Ever. You were absolutely correct, sorry for jumping on you like that, I jsut dont like it when people start talking and do no research and just go by what they think they heard. I was the one who didnt know what i was talking about and i apologize.
  20. not that i know of but i could be wrong, anyone else know?
  21. If Turner Gill wasnt apart of the husker family would we even be considering him a candidate. No. You dont hear all these other schools saying Gill is on their short list of coaching candidates. However, even if Pelini never coached at NU he would still be a candidate, he wouldnt be such a favorite like he is right now, but he would be considered. That just one of the reasons i like Pelini over Gill. *Edit: I am not posting this to bash Turner Gill, he has done a lot for UNL, this is simply support for Pelini.
  22. I am just curious OLDMAN how this is a bad thing. I mean with all the crimes and shameful things these college football players doing these days i think it would be a very good thing to try and get them to behave. Also if a coach tries to talk to his players about Jesus does that suddenly make him a bad coach. NO!!!
  23. How awesome would that be. This isnt very likely but it could happen and personnally i like to dream. What if TO hires Pelini as head coach, and then some how sweets talks Gill into being out OC. I would say that the OC at NU is a step up from the HC at Buffalo so hey you never know. Also this would pretty much guarentee that Gill would be the head coach is Pelini jumps to the NFL or gets too excited at a game and his heart explodes. OUCH!!!
  24. Husker3ever and Vuren, i am just curious if you did any kind of research before you posted or if just hope that you know what you are talking about and think people will beleive you? Another correction: Buffalo is 4-2 in the MAC conference behind Miami(OH) 4-1, and Miami holds the tie breaker with Buffalo so that actually means Miami has a two game lead on Buffalo. With only 2 conference games left on the scheduel Miami plays Akron (3-3 in conference) and Ohio (3-4 in conference). For Buffalo to win the MAC east they would need to win out and have Miami lose their remaining two games. So i will give you that there is a chance for them to win the MAC, its pretty tiny considering they dont even control their own destiny.
