  1. Being a hermit ain't what it used to be. PS - sorry to derail the thread. I just ran across that the other day and the "living in a cave" line reminded me of it. Mea culpa.
  2. Exactly. This has been shown to be true time after time after time after time. And it's not just one side doing it - it's both sides, like two bears constantly poking each other with sticks. It's naive to think that if one side stopped, the other side would suddenly stop, too.
  3. That is an excellent point, sir. however, I don't believe Stoopid Larry was ever convicted of a crime while he was at Nebraska There have been a large number of Huskers convicted of criminal activity. You can't dodge the point this way. You know the point I'm making. We don't have to belabor it. It's OK to decry the wrongs committed by The Church. It's better not to convict every Believer because of the actions of their superiors, but I can't stop you from doing that. I hear you clucking, big chicken. By the same token, college football and organized religion is kind of an apples/oranges comparison. Totally agree that it's a poor analogy. There are so few good analogies out there.
  4. We'll have about five more years to see if Obama really is a war-monger or just a caretaker to inherited wars, I guess.
  5. Bad things happen to good organizations. It is not the bad things that should be evaluated, but how that organization reacted to them. Dr. Tom did an excellent job with LP. The church... not so much with the child abuse by priests. Did he do an excellent job with Riley Washington? What about Tyrone Williams and his gun? What about Christian Peter and his no-contest plea to sexual assault?

  7. All of this has happened. But let's not paint every Catholic with the same brush. They are not all guilty because some are guilty, any more than every Husker fan is "bad" because of Lawrence Phillips. Disagree. I think anyone who practices Catholicism and probably Christianity in general and donate money to their causes is an accessory to all of these crimes and many, many more So you are an accessory to Lawrence Phillips' crimes?
  8. I will keep my current signature, until an apology is posted. It is an accusation with zero evidence to back it up, but so was his post. No, you won't. It's been removed. And to be fair, here's my apology: Cactus, I apologize for the insinuation that your motive in this thread is based on anti-Semitism. I have friends who work with the ADL, and they deal with such denial frequently. I have seen things like this in the past, and from personal experience anti-Semitism is a factor. I have no proof that your stance here is based on anti-Semitism, so I apologize and retract the statement.

  10. Nominate: n.e.husker There are lots of great people who contribute to the site, but who tend to get less pub than others. I chose n.e.husker because he's a regular contributor to forums, posting articles and starting interesting threads, all of which serve to help keep this place fresh and interesting, and keep the conversation flowing.
  11. Nominate: Bucky, a/k/a "Badgerfan" If this description doesn't fit him to a "T" it doesn't fit anyone. He is the quintessential gunner.
  12. I believe everything is updated and current. Almost forgot to close the polls and start new ones this AM.
  13. Where does Obama talk about the "evil rich?" That's the point I'm making - he's not warring against the rich, he's trying to make tax levels fair. It's not a coincidence that the people who are labeling this "class warfare" are the rich and super-rich.
  14. Ignoring all talk of Ron Paul, I totally agree with this. But neither Paul nor any other candidate will get this to happen. The lobbyists will fight this tooth and nail, and unfortunately their money will buy Congress' silence. I think this is an aim of the Occupiers (although it's hard to tell with their incoherent message), and with this goal I agree. I'm not sure Occupy Wall Street is going to get this done with some tents and snarky signs, though.
  15. Water Boy: 1) Willingness to Serve – The Water Boy is a key contributor and he must be willing to give his all to the team. HuskerBoard’s Water Boy should contribute more than just posts in the forums, whether that contribution is helping out in the Recruiting forums, finding interesting articles, or chipping in on the daily conversations. Even finding errors on the site, while not so glamorous, help HuskerBoard to be a better place for all. 2) Refreshing – The Water Boy keeps the troops on the field fresh with plenty of cool, refreshing fluids when the game heats up. HuskerBoard’s Water Boy is a guy who adds fresh perspective to the thread, or who brings out that key point that may have been missed so far in the conversation. 3) Unsung Hero – Dehydrated players are bad players. The Water Boy keeps them up and running, but often gets overlooked in the process. HuskerBoard’s Water Boy should be one of those guys whose contributions, while worthwhile, somehow leave him out of the limelight. This is our chance to say “thanks” for all of their work that may seem to go unnoticed. Ineligible: kansas husker
  16. Defense Special Teamer (Gunner): 1) Insane - Have you ever seen these idiots play football? They run as fast as they possibly can down the field in order to run into an oncoming wedge/defender head on! But, busting up a wedge to allow another player to make the tackle on the returner is very important. This poster probably has some weird and wild ideas, but still get the job done. Eric Martin is just the most recent example of this position, but Brandon Rigoni may be the best. 2) Speedy - Once the ball is in the air, the defensive special teamers need to get to the ball as fast as possible to either make the tackle or down a punt close to the opposing goal-line. There's nothing that frustrates a coach more than giving the other team 20 free yards! We need someone who is a speed poster and has the body control and ability to down the ball inside the 10! 3) Young - Coaches love to use true freshmen on special teams. Normally they don't want their skill players getting hurt on a kick/punt coverage or returning. I think this position should be filled by a "rookie" of HuskerBoard - maybe someone who has only been here for 3 months or less...longer if we can't think of anyone. Ineligible: HSKRNOKC
  17. Kick Returner: 1) RB wanna-be - When no opening is created, a Kick Returner normally tries to plow through the opposing special team members head on to try to gain some extra yards. Therefore, the ideal HuskerBoard KR has Running Back capabilities. You might want to consult the description of RB (not afraid to take hits, consistent, competitive, reliable) in order to best make a nomination/vote. 2) High top speed – Josh Davis was the prototypical KR. He could run straight from his own goal line and reach a very high speed by the time he got to the 20. By this time, the defense has hit the wedge and he could either find the seam to take it to the house or blast through the best hole he could find to get some yardage. A poster who really gets on a roll with their posts and can find that bit of extra info that someone opened up for him would be a great KR. 3) Dangerous - He may not be on the field a lot, but when he is, look out! A threat to take it all the way.
  18. Punt Returner: 1) Fair Catch ability - If the PR knows he's going to get drilled if he tries a runback, he needs to wave the arm, concentrate on the ball, and make the fair catch. This poster should always think about the best way to approach a question and to give the best answer as to not bring on extra attack from others (and a spear tackle from a gunner)! 2) Makes the first guy miss - The most important move for the PR is making that quick sidestep to the left or right to get the first man in to commit to a poor tackle (like Niles Paul's return against Colorado this year). Once this is accomplished, the PR can follow his blocks and use his cutting ability to score the TD. To me, this guy is really a sneaky member! He'll give you enough of a comment to reel you into arguing with him, and then, BAM! You've just missed the point completely, and the poster looks like a football genius with his reply to your opposing viewpoint! 3) Shifty - Can change directions on a dime, makes people miss. Look no further than Johnny Rodgers' electrifying return in the Game of the Century for the ideal of this trait. Rodgers dipped, dived and dashed his way through the heart of the Sooner coverage team en route to maybe the most important TD in Nebraska history. 4) Lightning-quick speed and reaction time, young, smart, able to make an opening for himself where one doesn't exist.
  19. Because horrible things have been done in the Catholic church in the past does not mean they give up all rights for the future. Even convicted murderers have rights in prison.
  20. Voting is closed! Congratulations to HANC, our new Punter!
  21. Voting is closed! Congratulations to jsneb83, our new Place Kicker.
  22. Yet more attacks by Hamas on Israel. Prompted by Israeli activity? Probably. Retaliation for something, which the Israelis were in turn retaliating for, etc etc etc.... List of Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel, 2011 List of Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel, 2010 List of Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel, 2009 List of Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel, 2008 List of Palestinian rocket attacks on Israel, 2007 The lists go on and on. Again, there are numerous examples of Israel also breaking truces, breaking ceasefires, etc. But it has never been my contention that Israel has not. I have maintained throughout that both sides are in the wrong.
  23. It's not an "assault on religion." It's an attempt to provide contraception to people who want and need it. It's dumb for Obama to have mandated it for churches for whom the idea of contraceptives is anathema, but it was not designed nor intended as an "assault on religion." This is a prime example of someone coming up with what they think is a good idea and not thinking through the consequences. That's still not great governance, but it's no "assault on religion." The Catholic Church is right about this. This is an infringement on their religion, and this mandate will not stand. Politics aside, forcing the religious to do something against their religion is not OK.
