  1. No way. If we get clubbed by Va Tech next year, Gill/Pelini/whoever will be cut some slack. With Bohl, we'll have flashbacks of the end of 2001. A new coach usually needs a grace period, Bohl won't get one. I don't care if Bohl takes over for Fat Chucky in South Bend and wins a national championship, I'd never look back and think he'd have been the right choice here.
  2. I'm pretty much in agreement with this except that I'd take Gill over Pelini. Osborne would know if Gill is really ready for this job, and if he thinks so, he's in. I just don't see anyone else who I think would really come to Lincoln that's head and shoulders above those 2. Rather than screw around again like last time trying to get guys who won't come (and I don't think Grobe or Schiano would, for example), don't make whichever of Gill or Pelini you want feel like the 2nd or 3rd choice, and spend weeks getting them here. That said, I wouldn't object to most of those other names but I'd pass on Petrino since he'd be looking for his next job as soon as he got here. I'm not really too excited about Glenn, in 5 years he's peaked at 3rd in the MWC and they are falling back this year. Paul Johnson would probably be my choice of the others, based on being able to adapt different offenses to the talent he has. It's funny to hear Craig Bohl's name pop up in the national media. He's done great things at NDSU, and he's either found his level or maybe he can even be a great coach somewhere in D1A, but he wouldn't have a chance in hell of weathering a slow start here like any of the other candidates. He shouldn't want an interview, and he shouldn't get one.
  3. I'm sure he and his bosses were caucusing before the decision was made. Jim Rose, the Lincoln Southeast Knight, used to wear the black jersey with gold colored pants with black trim down the sides -- ok, I don't remember exactly what LSE's unis looked like or whether Rose played football. I thought he was doing a better job of describing the field position lately, expecially since he did a lot less of starting the yardage tally from where a back took a deep handoff, so you didn't have so much of "Lucky crosses the 25, past the 30, down at the 31, make it the 32, for a gain of 3. But his repeating of catch phrases was annoying. "Caucusing" always drove me crazy because he thinks it sounds smart but that term is almost always political. Once would be cute and original. Using it every time 3 officials huddled makes me want to yell STFU! FWIW, I thought Pavelka and his "Tommie Fraziah" was worse.
  4. 1) How long have you been a member of Husker Nation? First game I remember is the 0-47 OU game in '68. It got a lot better very quickly! 2) What/who led you to The Nation? Nebraska native 3) Where are you from originally? Born Omaha, raised in Lincoln 4) Where do you live now? Virginia 5) Favorite Husker memory? Being part of the Sea of Red in South Bend. 6) Worst Husker memory? 1984 Orange Bowl is the worst I've felt after a loss. 7) Number of home games attended? 4 years every game as a student during the "Scoring Explosion" years, plus a few more. 8) Number of away games attended? 10, including Notre Dame and '98 Orange Bowl 10) Favorite place to watch a Husker game? (section in Memorial, bar, friends house etc.) Anywhere in the stadium is best. 11) Favorite all time player? Turner Gill 14) Lil Red or Herbie Husker? Somehow Lil Red grew on me. 15) Favorite Husker play? The "Bouncearoosky", even though OU wasn't fooled Fryar still hit Krenk in stride. Part of a fun, fun, win! 17) How did you find HuskerBoard? (referral source) I think it was a mention on Mike Nolan's husker email list.
  5. No, that's not right, the Big 12 can fill it's bowls with 6-6 teams even with 7-5 teams not invited, unless you find a source that says this changed from last year. http://www2.ncaa.org/portal/media_and_even..._6and6rule.html Look, it seems like a reach for the Huskers to win the last 2, but KSU lost to IOWA STATE and Colorado got blown out by Missouri at home worse that Mizzou beat us in Columbia. Nebraska isn't the only team with problems. IF Nebraska wins these two, there's a very real chance that KSU, CU, Okie State, and A&M also finish 6-6. Check out their schedules. 4 of those 5 teams will get into bowls. In this scenario, unlikely as it is, Nebraska will be the only "hot" team of the bunch. If you want the season to just end, consider this extension to the scenario: Osborne fires Callahan after the CU game, even with a win. Gill or Pelini is quickly named and in place for the bowl game. Two game winning streak, new coach...you think this might be interesting? I'd prefer this over a 4-8 season.
