  1. Press conference set for 9:30 a.m. today BY BRIAN CHRISTOPHERSON / Lincoln Journal Star Saturday, Nov 24, 2007 - 07:48:52 am CST Whatever the news is, it’s coming early. And quickly. Nebraska interim athletic director Tom Osborne will hold a press conference at 9:30 a.m. this morning when many expect to hear that Bill Callahan’s tenure as Nebraska’s head coach is over. Osborne's much anticipated meeting with Callahan came early Saturday morning, apparently lasting only a few minutes. Callahan arrived at Memorial Stadium at 7:20 a.m., his arrival followed in a few minutes by Osborne's. Callahan left at 7:35, waving to reporters as he drove his black Lexus sport-utility vehicle from a restricted area located to the east of Nebraska's practice fields. The first staff members began arriving at 7 a.m. Offensive coordinator Shawn Watson arrived around 7:30. A guard posted near the area told the Journal Star that "out of respect for the coaches, we want to have privacy." On Friday, Nebraska lost 65-51 at Colorado to end its season at 5-7. In four seasons, Callahan has a 27-22 mark at Nebraska. After the game Friday, he spoke as a man who was about to hear some bad news. “I’m going to wake up tomorrow and deal with whatever we deal with and carry on,” he said. “I’m sure Coach Osborne has a lot to talk about him. We’ll sit down and visit about them.”
  2. I think they missed it. Also to who-ever said the "smart" fans would have changed people's minds. I call BS on that statement. People back then didn't care about the rest of the games they cared what happened against OU. Beat everyone else and lose to OU = Bad Year. The wolves were around then and are now and will always be. It will happen to the next coach as well. www.fire(insertnamehere).com will be up and running by year 2. It will be purchased the week if not the day after a new coach is hired. Mark my words on that one. Glad to see some thinking people are on here.
  3. Then the smart people would have pointed out how many high ranked teams T.O. beat, how he has'nt had less then 9 wins each year and how he has been competitve in every game. All would be an good excuse to keep him. He also won a few bowl games in the 70's Can you really use those excuses with Callahan? exactly.. name the top 10 teams that Cally's beat... how many bowl games in how many seasons.. winning percentage.. conference winning percentage.. exactly. no comparison My point is there were many calling for TO's head back then. even death threats.
  4. You want the guy that had Bill Walsh watch his practices in the NFL to debase his ego and allow T.O. to mentor him? T.O. was B.D. Offensive Cordinator before being named HC and I read where he never tried to tell Osborne how to run his team. I have a feeling the Bob and Tom had some father/ son talks about tom's team. that's all I am saying.
  5. Yes, it was a brutal season, in so many ways. “But I love each and every one of (the players) individually,” Callahan said. “They’re great kids and you learn life lessons going through a season like this.” BC after todays game. Sounds like Nebraska values to me. I really think the guy cares and will do what it takes to improve.
  6. I wish we had computers in the early years of TO's tenure. The boards would have been wild with hate.
  7. Interesting... I read this same article a while agao. Now it's not on the website anymore. Hmmm. Maybe Colene Seng had her union boy's take it off.
  8. I really do think between the 2 of them they could do some great things. Granted I don't think it will but you never know.

  10. All I am saying is a offense that can put up points like they have in the last few games, matched with something resembling a defense could be very fun to watch. And could bring a few more Big 12 and national championships to Lincoln.
  11. Take some binoc's and see who get's off the planes. Then you will know before almost everyone. Take some hot coffee and a blanket.
  12. Let's say T.O. keep's BC, makes some much needed changes in assistant coaches and stay's on as AD. That way BC can have a mentor to help learn the traditions at Nebraska. Seems to me The Bob Father guided a Young red headed coach for several years before leaving the AD's office. BC has brought players in that have moments of greatness and like all kids make mistakes. the right mix of coaches under BC and TO could be just the ticket. Just a thought. Now fire away!
