  1. I understand that things were going to be rough this year, but I do not see why we are commiting stupid penalties and turning the ball over so much. These are things that a coach, no matter how long they have been at a program, need to limit. If we weren't doing these things then I would have an easier time with this transition. But the fact remains, we are still doing these stupid things that should never happen with ANY COACH.
  2. Why? See DaveH, When a coach does not get his players to play at a high level. He needs to find something to get them motivated. Playing time is a big influence on getting kids to playing hard. And after last week, I think the players need to be motivated a little bit more.
  3. Was Bo Rudd second string last week? I don't remember if he was or not.
  4. That would be great to have a Rocky Calamus type player starting for us for 3 or 4 years.
  5. That would at least give us an insurance policy if Beck does not pan out.
  6. It'd be nice to get muy moved back to oline where he belongs. To kidding, we need to get players back where they belong instead of putting them in unfamiliar territory so that we can have depth.
  7. I think that he will be given every opportunity to compete for both the starting place kicker and punting duties next year.
  8. If the seats stay full then it is the rich business people that think Callahan is God and will put Peterson on a pedistal. If the seats start to become empty then we know that the poor people are the ones that like Bill. Cause it always boils down to rich vs. poor doesn't it? It does when Peterson has raised prices so much that we have to give an arm and a leg to watch a game.
  9. I don't know if I would call Cosgrove phenomenal or not. Norvell is suppose to be good but really what has he done? He's made Dailey get worse, has him throwing off balance and off his back foot which he never use to do. Our secondary isn't playing nearly as good as last year. Our linebacker coach doesn't have cooper starting. I would call them below average and most definitly nowhere near what Solich assembled last year. I agree they have not shown me anything special yet. Besides being able to recruit they are probally the biggest disappointment so far this year.
  10. Talent will only get you so far (look at Texas). They need a different coach if they are going to take that next step and get a national title. I would not be ashamed of losing just one or two games a year. But year after year of getting killing in the Red River Shootout might be time for a change in coaching. Talent alone will not get the Longhorns over the Sooners nor will it lift NU to the top again. Bill is a great recruiter but I am not sold on him being a good coach yet.
  11. I imagine the thinking is that when you get into the red zone, the defense has less field to defend, and can begin to load the box. In those circumstances, your best bet is the pass. Not really, You can't stretch the defense as much in the red zone with the pass as you can in between the 20's. Your best bet is to do what you do best and in our case it is to RUN THE FOOTBALL.
  12. That will give Bill one more quarterback to throw into the mix. I hope that his first game he doesn't have four or five turnovers like Dailey and Beau. That is assuming that he comes here since he hasn't decided on where to go yet.
  13. If the seats stay full then it is the rich business people that think Callahan is God and will put Peterson on a pedistal. If the seats start to become empty then we know that the poor people are the ones that like Bill.
  14. There are plenty of high schools that run this type of offense around the country and those players don't need to be there for five years. That idea is ridiculous. Just because the current QB recruit is having a bit of trouble doesn't mean everyone will. This isn't the normal west coast, it's some advanced crap that is suppose to be so good. I agree Bernard. There are so many versions of the WCO and the types that are run in high school are totally different from the ones that are run in college or the pros. Callhan needs to be able simplify this offense for younger quarterbacks and then as the quarterback progresses through out his college experiences then Bill should make the offense more advanced.
  15. Guess so, either that or the refs can't hear because leach and staff looked pretty upset at them. Just think they would have proably won by 70 or 80 if they would have got the ball both halves. Well if we would of kicked off then maybe we would of made them start their drives on their side of the field rather than inside our 20 yard line.
  16. I agree. Consgrove is not a good coach. We had a great defense last year and pretty much have everyone back and we are not even close to what we did last year. I want Bo. Can we please get a mulligan for this one.
  17. Ball Control, turnovers and penalties would of made this game totally different. Would we of won, it depends on what we could of done in the first half, but we would of had a shot at it. Our coaches need to start teaching these kinds of things to the players.
  18. Bo never played Texas Tech. Let's compare apples to apples here. He did pretty damn good two weeks ago with OU. He only gave up 13 points to them. He may have a better team than Nebraska does but not by 57 points. Bo is ten times better than Cos will ever be.
  19. Trouble is, unless you are demonstrably physically superior to the opposition, a ball control offense - presumably, a run-based offense - becomes easy to defend. Load up the box. If the offense can't pass to open up the defense, it becomes easy to stop the offense. When NU was winning championships, and in the years it contended, it did so with a run-based offense that benefited from players that were physically dominate over the opposition. But think to those games when we ran up against teams that were as good as us physically. Those teams stopped us, and we had no other way to move the ball. Seemed to happen every year until the championship years. We would dominate most teams, then eventually run into one that was as physically talented as we were. They'd load the box, stop the run - and NU would lose a heart-breaker. Yes, we have been running well, but notice also that no one is loading the box - they have to at least respect the pass. If one of the benefits of the WCO is to be able to do with what works then why are we not running the football. I understand that we need to be able to do both and have the defense respect both of them, but when we run the ball all the way down the field until around the 30 yard line and then throw three straight passes, that does not make sense to me. Like a man much wiser than me once said, "You dance with who brought you here." If we run the ball down the field until we get to the red zone, then why do we not RUN THE FOOTBALL.
  20. Who says the players don't want to win? Our current players don't want to put forth effort? Our players do not do the little things that make winning possible every game. Those little things would consist of ball control, turnovers, and penalties. Teams that do those things well will have a winning record. Things like these can make a team that does not have the talent comparable to those like Texas and Oklahoma, able to compete and compete with a chance of winning. Having players that do not understand these little things make me wonder what our coaching staff is trying to do with our team.
  21. Welcome to the board. I would encourage you to read before posting. This has only been discussed eleventy billion times. Getting Frank back isn't going to magically fix everything and will do more harm that good this year. Give the guy a chance for christ's sake!!! The offense we are installing is MUCH MUCH different than those of Callahans predecessors. During this transition time, it’s going to be rough no doubt and some pride will have to be swallowed. The idea is that in the LONG TERM it will be a good move. The long term definitely isn't 5 games. I for one will be reserving my judgements on the coaching staff for at least another year. The offensive staff anyway. I agree that it will take some time to get our team to where Bill wants the team to be playing at, but I did not think that we would take five steps backwards so that we could take one small step forward.
  22. Most young studs aren't going to care. The type of players were going after just want to play in the pros they don't care about national titles. They care about national titles. Why do you think that Oklahoma got Adrian Peterson. Most kids want to win and they want to be the reason that the team wins. Nebraska might have a better chance at getting some of these kids because they want to come to a team that has tradition and they want to come in and play early and have a chance at a national championship.
  23. I don't care if beck is exceptional, with this offense and these coaches we won't win no national titles. Won't win no? Yah a think you right on dat un. He would give us a better chance than what other quarterbacks we can get this year.
  24. He sounds like a big kid and our weight room would only make him bigger. I would love to get him to give our line some much needed depth.
  25. I would love to see us go back to where we recruited big strong safeties and used them as linebackers. We would get so much more speed on the field that way. We may not be the most physical team but we would be fast enough to make up for that.
