Are you serious... First inning over with the pitch count of the starters sitting at Nicholls start 33, Sears (NU) @ 35. Watching the game on ESPN+ and the zone is unbelievably bad. Strikes are called balls, balls are called strikes. One pitch called a strike and the next, in the same spot, a ball but honestly, I have grown to expect this. It's an issue throughout college ball.

Bingo. I am at park, so you actually have better views. For Sears to walk 3, is on umpire. Good thing he is consistently tight and bad. Keep swinging

@HANC @Xmas32 - Both of you make very good points. See.. I told you I'm not qualified to be a manager of a team :)

lol, I fall into that same category!  You are right, bc I know many , even guys within the program thought that maybe he would move back to Friday. I was just trying find some reasoning. I just hope that Sears and others continue to keep up the pace as we advance. It is baseball, so I am sure all of our pitchers will have a rough outing at some point or two

They like that Ty Horn 95+ 2 seamer.. also, kind of surprised they're not giving sears a shot at friday but hey, I'm not the coach nor qualified to be one so, just win baby!!

I agree! Headed over Sat to game. I assume the decision is more about Christo than Sears. Bolt knows that at through 4 weeks that Sears is his so-called Ace, and Sears will just throw whenever.  I think he wants to show confidence in Christo, so didn’t want to remove him from Friday after his first opportunity. Just my thoughts

  4. Put the bat on the ball and good things will happen, especially if the other team implodes with errors. Walsh threw VERY well for 5 innings, gave up a 2 run shot in 6th, followed by a single , but induced a double play ball to limit the damage. Expect a new pitcher in the 7th and hopefully get out of here with a win for Walsh and the Huskers tonight

So, last night as I was watching the oogles of Basketball being played in preparation of bracketology my head, in it's stupidness, pondered how (if I could) would I bring more fairness to northern schools in baseball. I went through it in my head as well as I could. From starting the season mid-March vs mid-February but that wouldn't be enough on its own so I thought, let's incentivize travel to the northern schools by adding quad like points but quickly scratched that idea. So, still including a Mid-March start I then though "ok" lets limit the amount of teams one conference can place in the field of 64 to (6 max). I could live with that though it might come back and bite Nebraska in the butt. (not likely as rarely will the B1G get to that number right?) umm... wait, USC/Oregon/Washington/UCLA and possibly/probably Notre Dame not to mention, maybe Florida State and either Miami or Clemson.. Yeah... scratch the 6 team idea. In fact, scratch it all and keep it as is but then, something from nowhere hit me.. A light bulb flashed and I was like.. Oh wow, this could work however, the SEC is not going to like it. (but then when do they ever like anything they didn't think of, right?)

So, to begin, lets scratch the Mid-March idea as well. I think everyone involved in d1 baseball likes the season ending when it currently does so players have a little time off, they then travel out to a developmental league for a few weeks and return to start the fall session of college. Starting in Mid-March just doesn't make sense. Instead and because it appears the mid-feb start is in concrete and northern schools will need to travel south, schedules will still favor the southern home schools. However, if you can't make changes to the "Regular Season", look elsewhere, to the "Post Season".

Instead of forcing northern schools to travel to all these awarded southern school locations to faceoff against hostile home crowds curtail the playoffs to a "Mason/Dixon" type line. Teams south of the line from coast to coast travel the southern regionals and likewise, teams from north of the line travel to northern regionals. That equates to 8 regionals in the south, 8 in the north. Then take it another step further and keep 4 super regionals in each group of above/below the line and reshuffle the seatings as to avoid rematches if/when possible. Now, 4 winners from north of the line proceed to the CWS, 4 from below the line proceed to the CWS.

    The CWS play

Day 1 Play: #1 vs the #4 and #2 vs #3 seated teams of the north group.

Day 2 Play: #1 vs the #4 and #2 vs #3 seated teams of the south group.

Day 3 Play: Day 1 winners face off followed by Day 1 losers (1 team is eliminated)

Day 4 Play: Day 2 winners face off followed by Day 2 losers (1 team is eliminated)

Now is where the ultimate fairness comes in. The 2 win teams of the above and below get a buy as would be expected.

The losers of the winners brackets swaps brackets. (This gives them an opportunity to meet the winner of their original bracket in the championship)

Day 5: Swap occurs, loser bracket winner vs loser in the winners bracket. (2 games, total also creating 2 teams elimination)

Day 6: Semi Finals, Day 2 winner vs loser bracket winner (2 games)

Day 7: if needed, rematch from day 6 games to meet double elimination requirements.

    Day 8 Championship Game 1

    Day 9 Championship Game 2

Day 10 if needed, Championship Game 3

    I like your insight

Painter, classy as always, just posted and was very supportive and praised Fred.

He gets it. I will not say he isn’t the BEST coach in the Big 10, because he very well may be! I like him, I just don’t think the COY should always go to the “best” coach.

  7. Congratulations to Fred, but completely BS. Painter had the best player in the country the past 2 years, predicted to win the Big 10, expected to be a 1 seed in big dance….so, he does exactly what was laid out…. Huskers come out of relatively nowhere, finish 3rd, make the dance for the first time in a decade, suffer NO quad 3-4 losses (which may be the most impressive stat), AND I know it has no bearing, but we won head to head! Explain the rationale, other than the Big 10 continues to screw Neb, from a schedule standpoint in most sports and officiating. I know that last sentence is petty, but Fred deserves it outright

I was there. I heard a lot of "again" and "ugh" comments. The crowd though was in the game. Hay Market is awesome, especially for kids. First, about Horn... Freshman jitters but in all pitched well enough. Infield can't keep making these mistakes. It's cost us twice and nearly did again. Carey is to hot and cold and his errors are simply unexcusable. Either tell him to fix his focus or sit for a game or two. Stone's error happened on a player playing out of position so fans can live with that. Carey on the other hand, just no!! Pitching is ok.. sears should be moved to Friday, Christo to Saturday. (I think Sears handles stress better.) Overall, I greatly enjoyed the pings of the bats, the rally, eating peanuts and my buddy heckling me thru the first 3 innings. The biggest positive for me today is... I was at the ballpark eating hotdogs and yelling at umps..

Good win in spite of my jinx. Bolt was not happy with defense in the first and he did have some choice words with the fellas. That's baseball baby and it was GOOD!!! HUSKERS WIN & take the series. Old man me can sit back and enjoy the rest of the day. Bolt & Company.. Thank You for the near heart attack multiple times but also for just never giving in. Two more this midweek baby and I'm anxiously waiting.

Glad that they overcame your jinx!  You are spot on imo. Sears will more than likely be moved back to Friday. I think Bolt wanted to give Christo a shot, for various reasons and it kept Sears on his early season 7 day rest/recovery. Early on, he is clearly our best pitcher at this point. The team is more confident with him on the mound, bc as one freshman put it… “ Sears just doesn’t give a f@(k what people think about him…. He just throws”…. This would fit exactly into your thought of him handling the pressure better and being able to respond after a double or HR.

Nice to win another weekend series and probably another rpi boost

  9. I absolutely agree with all of the Clark and Bluder comments. They better enjoy this season bc it will be rough. With that said, to put it bluntly, you CANT blow an 8 pt lead with 2 min left to play. A poor 3 pt shot early in the shot clock directly led to a Clark 3 at the other end.  Eat clock, get it inside, poor execution in the last 9 sec out of timeout and bad decisions late in OT cost us.  Just disappointing!!! But, this team overachieved this year and in the tournament. Future is bright!!

Ty Horn made some good pitches today and should get more chances to start. Can't believe how bad the defense was behind him.

Agree. Glad he didn’t get saddled with the loss. Defense gave him little chance. I didn’t get to follow the game today, but was getting updates from buddies. Glad we found a way ….AGAIN

Yep, I actually expected this.. sitting here and watching our guys warm up.. They didn't come in to win a game. I think most would rather be home playing video games. Pathetic start on series win day. I think I'm a jinx as every time I'm at hay market it seems the team plays way below their potential. Buddy sitting beside me just told me he thinks maybe I should leave. lol

Ugh!!!! Come on guys, no 6 run inning please

Did you leave or switch seats? Bc here we go !!
