  1. you can have all the talent in the nation, if you cant apply it youll lose. example of good coaching, team work, and a rushing/option based offense that works is navy last year. all the academies work with less talent than most schools and still manage to compete with alot of the sucessful schools. they may get blown out by FSU or Miami or whoever, but they have limited talent levels and still have good years against some ranked teams. my point is youve gotta have both before you can win a NC, if your short one ingredent your chances of making it are slim.
  2. do i think BC is better than FS, nope. im not saying that FS was the man, but i dont think BC is either. i know im not alone in saying that i had some serious jokes cracked at me about being a huskers fan when FS was fired and then more of the same when his super human replacement was named........... i personally dont think FS needed canned yet and also dont think that BC is a vast improvement from him either, based on his past sucess with players and last season included. sure they can recruit, but can the implement those players? thats what i want to see. possibly one of those namless crew members that get wacked when they land on the strange planet.........
  3. this topic falls in the same catagory as the ones about BC being the savior of the program, very little facts and mostly opinion. fact is the kid is a freshman. opinion is that hes already a bust just because hes struggling. just like the new coach its just gonna take time to see if he can adjust and produce, big step going from high school to college anyway, besides trying to digest a notedly complicated offensive scheme. cant call him a dud till he proves himself to be one after a year of two.
  4. funniest thing ive seen all day think alot was said about the age game earlier, but if zook and willingham are such great finds why were they both let go before their contracts were up? zook is an awsome recruiter, which the illni need for sure, if ya dont believe me go to a game........ and willingham showed promise at ND, but didnt produce quick enough for ND, tried to change the offensive philosophy and it didnt fly, might be a similar theme in lincoln soon?, but he proved himself at stanford and i think thats why he was picked up so quick, may be his last chance for greatness if he doesnt get something going, but i think he'll get more time than ND gave him.
  5. sorry kinda got rambling, ive been in major debates about that on here, and your both right, cant get the talent to come play plow the other fat guy, plus it seems like the lineman didnt have good longevity in the NFL, dont know if that was the weight training or technique or what, but seemed like they all got broke pretty quick. skilled players on offense seem kinda hit an miss out of that system too, some adjust and some of them floped.
  6. gotta give it up to bigredcountry for using ostracize on the real subject BC should maybe go back and watch game film of that team every month or so, just to remind him what the expectations are that are on him, i dont care who ya are thats a major mountain to climb, and gotta be somthing youve gotta see every so often to believe. FS couldnt live up to alot of peoples expectations and he knew from first hand, has to be hard for BC to grasp sometimes that the bar has been set so high for him by the fans. on this note miami is a school that always has talent, but seems to fall apart as a team, the talent level they have every year, seems like they should be more consistant, i know they do well, but seems like some years theyre more hype than anything.
  7. now someone else finally said it, the run based/option game would still be effective with the right personel. get so tired of hearing about that style not being able to work anymore. 94' and 95' forever cemented in my mind that power football can dominate all with ball control, and just plain out whoopin ass on the line of scrimmage. thing that always got me about the florida game was that florida was favored, if im thinkin right? seems like espn and those type shows said the huskers would be to slow compete. its been almost 10 years now so my memory could be way off.
  8. some guys that play reciever in college didnt play that position previously, sooooo that would be part of their job description, about every living person has the ability to catch a football, its just the coaches job to improve on their skills, per say the inability to catch the ball on a "division one college football" level. just part of the job description man, thus the "recievers coach" title they bear. fact is whether its the coaches fault or not if your recievers dont catch, its his responsiblity. as far as BC goes if he listened to every ass wipe in the media he probably would have ate a bullet long before he got here, he's gonna do his thing and we're gonna have to hope it works.
  9. any big 10 team, well maybe not IU because that would be like that maine game they have scheduled, but theyre always a strong confrence, and i might be able to make it to a game.
  10. hope BC keeps this going, seems like he is commited to, after all its really the reason they are going to school.
  11. check your headgear new guy, your not alone, there are others suspicious of BC and his offensive scheme. i get really sick of hearing this too, it worked against fast defenses in the mid to late 90's like Florida, who was too fast....... Miami, who were too fast.......... hmmm like every team they played in the NC and bowl games were fast and they still won. football is man against man, you match equal athletes up and the system still holds up. not real sure when the option became a slow developing play either, depends on what play your running, but it can strike faster than almost any other play if the QB cuts inside. lack of inside running game and the deep ball is what started killing the option here, less isolation plays, lacking a stud I back, fullback got less carries, and crouch and lord not having much of a nack for chuckin it down field kinda made things too one demensional. big problem here that someone brought up, athletes you need to run a true WCO probably not gonna like NU, because of the area for one, but plus the identity that the program has for being so run oriented. BC is gonna have to adapt better to the talent he gets and has to be sucessful, didnt seem like he did that well last year, hopefully we will see improvement on that in the upcoming year. hadnt posted in a while, really suprised at all the new faces, welcome to all the recent additions.
  12. they always have been, thought last years staff didnt utalize its stengths like the running game. hopefully they will utalize all three of these guys alot this year, especially until they can get the passing game tuned in better. that is my big complaint with the coaching staff last year, didnt seem like they played to the teams strengths. as for the season, 6 or 7 is realistic right now for me, may change closer to fall. pitt and kansas are two teams im not sure about, seemed like they both improved late last year.
  13. think your missing his point here, hes still on here posting and commenting because hes a husker fan, kinda impatient and judgemental, but your basic bangwagon kinda guy would have just left long ago, hes nothing new on here, been here longer than i, and im betting hes gonna stick around, whether they win or lose. FF is just as extreme on the anti-cally side as others are on the pro-cally side.
  14. i personally dont think NU had really strong schedules even when TO was there, never really has always seemed like they didnt get any real competition till the middle of the season, i.e. big 8, big 12. i remeber that being a big deal when they were being ranked, hearing people on ESPN talk about how they couldnt play with the FSU's, Miami's and UF teams. please dont ask me for facts, cause im just wingin it, and i think that whole scene is gettin kinda played out to the max...........
  15. Wow..... this thing really changed gears. i cant really say that i agree or disagree that FS would have failed or prevailed, his last year was a step in the right direction, but going from an assistant to head coach must have been a major change, plus the massive pressure he was put under. IMO after the depature of TO there was going to be some rought years ahead, seems like there always is with coaching changes, IMO FS was as much a victim of circumstance, whether he would come around or not, that we will never know. as far as BC goes as of yet i dont seem him as a top 10 coach, ill be needing some proof for that, not saying he cant be, but prove it, the way he stands now hes lookin kinda average. im basing that on his colligate head coaching career that i am aware of, because IMO colligate and professional sports are a whole different thing.
  16. thats kinda why i tried to compare them loosely, im just interested in which stratagy will prevail i guess more then the coaches themselves.
  17. This should be an interesting topic. when one coaching legend says what the huskers are doing is right, i.e. ditka, alot of people are on board agreeing with him. wonder what will be said when another disagrees? if things turn around at PSU will there be more doubts about how things were handled? i know FS was no joe pa, but what if PSU takes off before things do here? kinda makes ya wonder which stratagy is gonna work? will the huskers improve drasticly or stay in somewhat of a slump, and can paterno revive the lions with old school football? those are two questions i am real interested in seeing the answers to.
  18. yea northwestern and illinois is a pretty boring game........ gotta ask, does any of what is happening in lincoln seem like what happened in south bend, administrative changes, coaching changes, high expectations and lots of divided fans?
  19. Thanks for posting that, i couldnt get to it either. seems like BC should have just stayed kinda quite after that game, kinda similar to what his players should have done when they quit the program, silence sometimes has a quality all its own. most of the stuff in this article seems like a play on words though, just reads like a post that someone would put on here, mostly just opinion.
  20. It is good to hear that players are trying to sharpen their skill how ever strange it may seem to us, hope he doesnt "turn to the dark side" kinda like JD did and chuck up a bunch of picks.
  21. SP brought some serious attention to the program when he fired FS, thats for sure, most everyone was like me and thought after a sucessful season, everyone who knew i was a husker fan was really raggin on me about it, who are they gonna get to do better than that? are they nutz? stuff like that. Outside looking in it seems like he is way too high profile, seems like the schools that are having problems with their programs have high profile AD's, just doesnt seem like a good thing to me, im not sure why he is, unless he chooses to be or there are internal problems coming out. All i can tell ya is i dont know any the names of any of the AD's at schools that are having sucess in their athletic programs and alot of people know who SP is, possibly the major changes he has made are overshadowing his accomplishments, but it seems like he sure does get alot of negative attention. good to see another husker fan in IN too, thought there was just 2, now its 3 i guess
  22. first off this attitude sucks, everyone hacks on FF for saying things about the current staff but this is total garbage, this is hacking on the largest part of the players. then you posted this Why should Ross look out? Unlike Daily, Ross can play in this offense
  23. i dont think he dislikes the program, just the coaching staff, and admittedly one or two more years like the last and ill be right there with him, but for right now im staying kinda neutral, i understand that its gonna take time for a new staff, but i dont like last years results either, i found them to be excessive in the L column from what they were the year before.
  24. i think your both right. great athletes win games, but if they dont know what they are doing or are not allowed to perform to their potential then they nearly as effective. it takes a combination of both IMO.
  25. all of you know he just dies to get a response like this, people get so pissed at him they sometimes seem to miss some good points that he has, sure maybe kinda extreme when he says it, but should you really hate that he doesnt think things are going well? are they going that well? im not saying hes right all the time, but i still need some proof myself that things are as great as some of you are acting like, im gonna wait and see how things go this season before i promote or denounce with the current staff. as of right now last season and a good recruiting doesnt make them much, i wanna see if they can improve on last season, that will be the test, not interviews, spring games, and recruiting classes. people shouldnt question FF's loyalty to nebraska, because he cares enough to be dissatified and want more, which i think all of us want too, and if you dont want better than 5-6, then thats just weird and i dont know why you would even watch a competitive sport.
