  1. meanwhile Michigan offers Harbaugh 8 mil per year in a 6 year deal........and we got our guy for 2 mil? i would say Michigan knows a splash hire when they see one! I agree with what you are saying, it gives you the sense of a lateral movement instead of a step up like it appears Michigan is trying, I think most had that just got pumped by the neighbors cat look on their face when Riley was announced and it doesn't look like his assistants will be much different. It will be an interesting next few years as everyone either praises or condems the hiring of Riley depending on the results he produces.
  2. brown should have just set the starters out the whole game and made it respectable, im sure barnett would have done the same if he was in that position
  3. Wait let me get this straight, an OPEN invitation to come to practice and talk to players and coaches isn't ENOUGH? He has to do more? Obviously you think Bill Callahan's schedule is pretty empty during the year. Lets take a look and see what Bill Callahan has on his plate 1-Recruting kids during gamedays 2-Recruiting kids on the road during the season 3-Recruiting kids on the road during the offseason 4-Constant recruiting on the phone on and offseason 4-Attending Recruits games and checking them out before other schools can 5-Spring Practice 6-Fall Practice 7-Gameweek preperation, anaylsis, film breakdown with players and coaches 8-Hosting charity events like the Breast cancer walkathon and other charity's 7-Big Red Breakfest meetings with boosters and fans 8-Coach Callahan Show 9-Film breakdown of possible future recruits for the next years class That's just for starters. If they don't want to come by THEIRSELF then so be it, but don't tell me Callahan has to do more then he already has. The guy barely gets a chance to spend time withy his wife and kids. He's not going to go running after grown men pleading them to come see him just because they don't feel "COMFORTABLE" with the new coaching staff. It's tjhe ex players responsibilites to go there, and talk to the players and coaches. Callahan is trying to coach a football team, not rekinddle some long lost love with players and coaches. Milt Tenipoir is usually at practices, so the excuse of they don't know anyone is just BS in my book. thats what he really posted, and hes right, if BC wants them to be part then he should try to find a way to try to reach them, make a serious effort if thats what he wants, others in the athletic department could make more of an effort too. an open invatation doesnt really sound that warming IMO, so i can understand why some may be inactive, considering they know few in the program now.
  4. Ahhh, the ignorance...... I suppose Andy Reid is a terrible coach as well, seeing as his team is horrid this year and were just embarrassed on MNF? Dumb, dumb, dumb argument that will not get a response. how many players did BC lose after he went to the superbowl, i dont know, but if your gonna use andy reid as an example i was just kinda interested for comparason sake. BC did take a 9-3/10-3 husker team to 5-6 personally i thought that was kind of an exteme drop, but im willing to "wait and see", but unlike many of you im just not sold yet. i havent seen any consistancy from his two years, and that is my biggest concern. i asked for some progress this year and received it, but i want more next year, no big losses in the confrence would be nice, even though that may be tough against texas. many of you have talked about the progress you have seen, and i agree i have seen some, but it needs to be alot more consistant before ill agree that things have turned around.
  5. ahhh, i always forget about Bradey, he kinda flew under the radar, i just remeber all the hype about Henson and how he never seemed to live up to it IMO.
  6. could it have something to do with so many underclassmen playing at the skilled positions as of late? i know you said he has always been that way, but i really cant remeber them having a really solid qb since maybe greise, or maybe henson, never was really impressed with him though. dont know, just wondered if that may have been one reason. gary mollar???? or something like that help me out michigan guys
  7. I hear Ohio State fans call him LLLLoyd. As far as Michigan or Iowa, I think NU will be up for either team and play a great game. I think Michigan is a little better, but they are 7-4 as well and obviously beatable. Very talented though. Iowa is their best shot for a win. Michigan im afraid to say would probably be a loss. think of michigan this way, they played Ohio State very tough, who played Texas very tough. who flat ass blew Colorado off the field. looking at it that way it looks pretty nasty, could turn out different if they actually play though. Iowa started playing better later in the year also, tough game, they can win, but its not the same Iowa team that got beat by Iowa St. early in the year.
  8. I am stumped when it comes to history of the AFL, so help me out here. Let's rewind to 1960's. Len Dawson- In his first season, 1962, Dawson had led the league in touchdowns and yards per attempt. He was the Sporting News selection as the AFL MVP for 1962. A pinpoint passer with four AFL passing titles, he went on to be selected an AFL All-Star six times, and holds the American Football League’s number one career passer rating. Tom Flores- He became the team's starting quarterback early in the 1960 season and led the league by completing 54.0 percent of his passes, throwing for 1,738 yards and 12 touchdowns. Jack Kemp- He led Buffalo to three straight Eastern Division titles and two American Football League championsips, in 1964 and 1965, throwing to Hall of Fame receivers Elbert Dubenion and Ernie Warlick. Kemp was the first 3,000 yard passer in the American Football League (1960, 14-game schedule)and the league's Most Valuable Player in 1965. He had the most career passes attempted, most completions and most yards gained passing in the history of the American Football League. Daryle Lamonica - In his first year with the Raiders, he threw for 30 touchdowns and ran for four more. In 1969, he threw for 34 touchdowns and over 3,300 yards. Joe Namath - Signed to the Jets team by Hall of Fame owner Sonny Werblin in 1965, Namath was the first pro quarterback to pass for 4,000 yards in a season (1967). Vito Parilli - He played for the Patriots from 1961 through 1966, and was a three-time AFL All-Star. In 1964, throwing to fellow Hall of Famer Gino Cappelletti, he amassed nearly 3,500 yards passing, with 31 touchdowns. So I am wondering if these QB's ran the option in college, then switched over to the passing game when they went pro due to the risk of injury? Let's post a Husker Classic. The ONLY QB from Nebraska that I know of to get drafted to the Pro's, (as a QB.) Vince Ferragamo- (born April 24, 1954 in Torrance, California) was an American football quarterback from the late 1970s through the mid-1980s. A University of Nebraska Cornhuskers graduate. He played for the Los Angeles Rams (1977-1980 and 1982-1984), Buffalo Bills (1985) and Green Bay Packers (1985-1986). He played in Super Bowl XIV. He also played for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League for one year, 1981. On December 26, 1982, Ferragamo threw for 509 yards in a game against the Chicago Bears, at the time the second highest passing mark in league history. point about the qbs in the pros. is that they are investments, "race horses" for lack of a better term. college football has began to somewhat turn that way too. IMO intellegence or the ability to read and react is another reason the option isnt ran in the NFL, some people may call that speed or whatever, but the recognition of the play and not buying some of the fakes is what makes the option appear slow in the professional ranks.IMO just going on memory, but wasnt Berringer????? may be wrong though in the past #1 TO ran more of a power running game complimented by the option, and FS did not IMO. #2 teams can be one dimensional when you cant stop them, previous teams didnt really care about being balanced , they just came right at you and dared you to stop them. #3 when they passed, it was usually very effective because the defense was so commited to stopping the run, so being one unbalanced can be an adavantage. IMO many of you are basing your ideas on what FS was running in his last few years and it was a shadow of what was ran during the 80's and 90's. everyone has their veiws and ideas, but i would put the 94' or 95' offense against any defense of today and almost promise a win. those teams both had the same bad rap of being too slow when they played miami and florida, could the option work against the speed of those defenses??? it did, still can with the proper personel. IMO not being able to recruit the proper personel, and higher quaility athletes into that type of system is why the option based offense has fallen out of favor in college football.
  9. sorry man i dont buy it. one reason the pros dont run an option based attack has alot to do with $, those qbs cost alot and they dont want to have to pay them to ride the pine while theyre broke. secondly youll never convince me that speed has killed the option offense, there is speed on the offensive side too, and alot of an option attack is based off misdirection. $ are what have killed the option based offense in college football, alot of todays recruits look purely at playing as a pro. not at winning in college and getting an education.
  10. i was more impressed with glenn and jackson, seemed like lucky just ran really fast into a pile sometimes. may have something to do with his comment about not reading the holes correctly. IMO glenn and jackson will both be solid next year, and lucky could be if his vision improves, looks like hes got plenty of speed and power, just needs to get where he can use it.
  11. i guess im missing your point here. this was mine.
  12. We realize that... We have to read the same thing from you EVERY DAY!!! Why do you have to come into every thread and bitch about the same thing??? kinda calling for these kinda coments when he started this topic. "Where are the critics now?"
  13. didnt he run some last year too when they were in that giant hole against tech? maybe im wrong, but i thought i remebered him running a few option plays in the 4th quarter. anyway maybe hes just trying to adapt and try some different plays, seems like other schools still run it in some form or another, possibly something he may add a version of in the future?
  14. its improvement and thats all i was hoping for, as far as the critics, i think everyone is still here on both sides, but the critics have gotten tired of being labeled as "bad fans" when they talk about a loss and have a win rubbed in their face even if i was a minor one. ill still admit that BC is suspect IMO. they had a great game yes, but they have lacked consistancy through the year. BC has just set a new level for him next year for me, he has a winning record now, but next year IMO they will have to be more competitive in the big 12 thats what ill be watching for next year. my opinion on BC hasnt changed because of one game, IMO he has the rest of his contract to prove that he belongs here, and one game where they beat a CU team that looked pretty junk IMO doesnt have me sold.
  15. dont let that guy with the water bottle get away he had pretty good accuracy, almost got him a ref.
  16. this was what i was reponding to, im thinking weve gotten off track on what exactly we were saying.
  17. sorry Dave, cant really think of many more than the others have listed, looked for a little something, but didnt find much, but i found this interesting piece, its from the mid 90's or so. As national scholarship signing day fades into the sunset, the Huskers turn their attention to the walk-ons. NU expects at least 17 walk-ons to join the program, according to the Daily Nebraskan. Coach Tom Osborne told the DN, "If we didn't have the walk-ons come here, I think it wouldn't be long before we became a second-rate program. They're very, very important to us." Osborne added that the walk-ons were like having an extra five to eight scholarships a year. thought this kinda made my point ill look for something better when im have some more time.
  18. bad offense=bad defense until the O can be more consistant and control the TOP the defense will struggle, weaknesses will show alot worse when your trying to carry the team the majority of the time. havent walk on's almost always started or rotated in at a couple of positions, its always been one of the strengths for the program i thought, having talent that wanted to stay home and play.
  19. yea their D is pretty tough inside the key........
  20. thats funny.......... anyone else notice that cally has a nack for breaking records though?
  21. IMO that has been the work of SP. im really not a big BC fan, but he is in somewhat of a no win situation. he was brought into a place where his style of coaching may never suceed, seems like hes a professional type and this program has always been a family type. as far as the poll, i voted for the whole contract, i may not really like him, but hes one of the few who had the balls to take the job and ill give him credit for coming into a very undesireable situation. i personally dont think BC will suceed here, but IMO he should be given the chance, we dont need another FS type thing unfolding. IMO SP should go before cally, he started the whole thing so he should be held responsable first.
  22. how strange that it hits the same nerve with me when you start raving about the option play being dead, thats about like saying that a sweep or a toss is a dead play, or even a swing pass, pretty much any play that tries to attach the defense on its corners. i just really dont understand your logic when you say that.
  23. everyone seems to miss the point that rushing was the strong suit of the past teams, im not saying to still run the option, but the fact is that the best players on the team were the backs, so they should get the bulk of the work. as far as the line not being able to block now, possibly might be a change in the blocking scheme, plus we usually have no fullback now to help iso the linebackers. IMO a drastic change in offense at basicly every position is why the offense is struggling.
  24. both kinda defeats the purpose of taking the poll doesnt it????? that being said i made both not an option and went with coaching, coaches are where it all starts.
