  1. also, whatever happened to the idea of the team calling their own meeting to get things back on track, like they occasionally used to do.........any bets Cally will not allow that? something is really amiss here folks hunter
  2. i will say this..........if Lucky walks, the recruiting will be zero for the 2006 class...if that indeed happens Cally should be immediately terminated.....regardless the impact on the program.....this is a cancer in the head coach that will only spread through the team and the program.......again if he walks, can Cally.....not that Lucky is a premidonna........but it should tell you what is going on in the players heads! hunter
  3. i just read a comment by Grixby......that the guys didn't come out with any fire and KU did.........hell, here we are fighting to get a 6th win and a bowl bid to extend the season......and we have no fire??? is this a player issue or a coaching issue........it is one or the other....you decide....... hunter
  4. agreed, we need some quick feet, that is for sure!
  5. what has happened to the running game? have we gone from one deminsional running to one deminsional passing? hunter
  6. Dave, other than the drunk students, was the rest of the crowd decent toward the Husker fans? hunter
  7. He is in my opinion. Nebraska is no longer going for the 6-3, 6-4 offensive lineman unless the have major talent in pass blocking. They are going with the huge guys who will bulldoze their way and open up big holes for running backs. Nebraska is trying to get taller guys in the lineup and use a look they call "The Elephant look" by simply putitng to much meat on the offensive line, it helps open up major holes. NU has been using the Elephant look this year on 3rd and 1 or 2 downs. According to Wagner, NU put over 2500 pounds of offensive lineman meat against Oklahoma and all but once did it not produce a first down. In my opinion, regardless if he's a 3 star to some people, this guy would fit nicely with 6-6 (and growing) D.J Jones, 6-8 Brock Pasteur, 6-8 Matt Slausson and 6-8 Lydon Murtha. There's another recruit NU is heavily in on that i forgot to mention from the JUCO ranks and he deserves a thread all to himself. 4 star Offensive lineman Phil Loadholt from Garden City Kansas who is 6-9 and still growing amazingly. He is a 3 for 3 player and is considering a visit to Nebraska in January sometime because he still has a little bit of work to do before he graduates in May. The fact he is a late graduate is one reason schools haven't offered him, but he's being pursued by Nebraska, Oklahoma, Colorado, Kansas St, Kansas, and Oklahoma St Keep an eye out for him if the elephant look is such a great philosphy, why do we pass on 3rd and 1 at the goal line? sh#t, we don't need more big overweight linemen, we need guys that can move and not get beat by a spin move off the line....seems the Bronocs had one of the best O lines several years back, one of the smallest by weight standards in the NFL.....big is not better, if you can't move! but i suppose you will disagree with that too? hunter
  8. Let's hope that this is either: 1. About what should be expected for a project of this magnitude; or, 2. A result of the economy, the recent natural disasters, and similar matters. Why? Well, for one thing, those improvements are vital to the long-range health of the program. I would hope that NU fans that want Callahan gone would be willing to put aside any ideas of harming the funding just in an effort to force Callahan out. I guess what I'm saying is that no matter who the coach is, or will be, fans need to provide financial support to those areas that benefit the program long-range. If fans must "speak with their wallets", let them do so in more direct ways that are more immediate, such as ticket sales or sales of Husker items. Let's not dig a hole that harms the program in the long term. Thinking about it, I'd rather have Callahan here for five years with mediocre or worse seasons than to have the fans not support such projects in an effort to oust him. Not that I love Callahan as a coach - but because doing it would make it harder to hire a top-notch coach, harder to recruit, harder to rebuild. A lot of teams have gone through what NU is going through. It didn't so adversly affect recruiting that they weren't able to rebound. That's because the fans recognized that top-notch facilities are a must - and recruits look at that more than the immediate record (to a lot of recruits, bad records equates to early playing time). If someone wants Callahan gone - fine. But don't hurt the program's ability to stay competative in other areas, such as facilities. If anything, this is the time for fans to step up in that regard.
  9. christ tex, what good is this board if we all are gonna pretend we are happy with the coaches? should we all just agree with what is going on here or just plain not post? this board is for discussion of the game and what is going on with Husker football.......last time i checked a democracy allowed for diagreement......i do more than you know to support this team......as do alot of others i am sure who find the coaching part unacceptable.......get over it! hunter
  10. it doesn't bother me a bit.........we all know it is one win in the past 36 years.....do we need to make a shirt that sez 35 out of 36? hunetr
  11. i think a defense that spends all it's time on the field, while the O goes 3 and out, is going to give up points......anyone have any stats of TOP for all the games played so far? i would be surprised if we are holding the ball for more than 35% of the time......... hunter
  12. willie, nice post and you are correct on most all counts......i did send Pud an email voicing my concerns, but i doubt he will ever read it, i am sure his mailbox has 100's of them if not thousands......i support the kids and the program, but I DO NOT HAVE TO LIKE THE COACHING! anyone on the team or considering joining the team understands the disappointment in the last 2 seasons....you can't hide that and it doesn't take a board for anyone to figure it out.......period. hunter
  13. that is 25%.....not a token donnation by any means.......and who has defined a what a major booster donates and his influence on the other folks who ponied up 38 million? word would get around when the big boys bow out, don't you think? not trying to argue, but it is a concern and something that needs to be maintained? hunter
  14. i want to see the examples WENT IT DIDN'T WORK..it happens this way everytime? i am not buying it..... hunter
  15. Pedersen will be shown the door in Febuary or early March.......I can see him staying on only with a bowl game....... The President will have to make a move after the recruits ink their letters unless we get a bowl game. NU did fine before they had boosters and NU will do fine if Boosters decide to bail out and not donate. Boosters don't control the University, and don't have the final word of who gets fired and who doesn't. Harvey Pealman hired Steve Pederson and he isn't going to fire a guy simply because some fans want him gone. The only time you will see any changes done in the coaching department is if NU fans consistantly start leaving early in the third quarter because of a blowout or because people have stopped buying tickets. Pederson is giving Cally untill after the 2007 season, regardless if NU fans or boosters like it or not. boosters, big ones, play a huge role in any program......they have to be satisfied or wooed at the very least to have their continued support.....especially when you are building a 56 million dollar expansion project......you can bet Pud will have some damage control and heavy convincing to do with these guys, especially if we lose out and don't get a bowl bid...... hunter
  16. no one can guarantee this team wil be "totally different" next year......you just don't recover from 2 5-6 seasons (or close to it) and suddenly have everything go right.......if there is recovery, it will take at least 2 more years.....and that is IF the coaches learn anything in the interium as well! first order of business is getting the slugs off the offensive line and some athletes in place and some coaches that can teach blocking schemes.......big order! hunter
  17. we could very well lose our last 2 games......Pud and Cally aren't going anywhere, no matter how loud the out crys......but that doesn't mean we should be satisfied with the SS next year, does it? it will be interesting enough to see how the recruiting finally grades out this spring.....i don't care what anyone sez.......if we lose out IT WILL hurt recruiting...........high scvhool kids aren't stupid and they are tuned in to what is going on in any program they are looking at.....contorversey is not someplace you willingly seek out! hunter
  18. coaching issue, again........ hunter
  19. good question...i think nameless might provide us some info later in the week.....
  20. Hunter that is the dumbest post ever. So what do you want him to call everyone was wanting him to run more he did didn't work pass more still didn't work. Maybe if actually watched the game without issues toward the coaches you would see that our oline is getting handled, hard to get plays going when the def is in your backfield all day! will wise guy, when you are not having any success, why call the same plays?
  21. i think it will be a major job for these coaches to get these kids ready to play this game......the only hope is for the noisest crowd of all time at memorial stadium..but honestly i think we lose out the rest of the way and spend the off season in an unproductive discussion of what went wrong.....i hope i am wrong! hunter
