  1. Hopefully this is a sign that Baker is going to live up to his 5-star reputation at DT. Nothing would warm my heart more than to see Suh and him clogging up the middle like cholesterol.
  2. But, as the former DC repeatedly said, "...against all these spread offenses there's only so much you can do..." Haha. Awesome.
  3. It looks to me like Sherman will be another NFL bust , like Callahan, at the college level. But time will tell, so we will see. There was no reason on earth for them to have had as bad of a season as they had last year. Agreed. 100%
  4. Thanks for your input. Fresh perspectives are . . . well . . . refreshing I guess. I don't want to see the Confederate battle flag banned in any way, or scrubbed from the history books. My only concern here was that is was so prominently displayed on some one who is a state law enforcement figure. If there is one group of people (outside of the courtroom) who should appear to be as impartial as possible, it is law enforcement officials. Displaying that tattoo while in uniform could raise serious doubts about impartiality. (Also...as a side note...I realize that many people don't believe the CBF to be a symbol of racism. I'm not sure I can agree with that. The CBF does represent the Confederate States of America, but slavery was an inextricable element of that government and time. Many southerners will argue that the Civil War was a war for states rights...which is correct. However, chief among those rights fought for was the right to own slaves. Anyways, sorry for ranting a bit myself.) Thanks again for discussing. Nothing like a little history to get things fired up.

  7. Interesting...two ways to look at this...either we are awfully thin at QB or Washington isn't quite the LB we thought he'd be. Or maybe a combination of both...I suppose Bo thinks the team as a whole is better served by having him in the backfield.
  8. Ahem. Cody Green injury confirmed. Soft tissue injury, not particularly serious. That is all.
  9. The Royal Tenenbaums Grumpy Old Men The Holy Grail The Princess Bride Wedding Crashers (edit: I have to swap the Big Lebowski in here)
  10. Excellent, excellent post. And good point about the size of the US vs. European countries. It's probably much easier to have striking philosophical differences over vast physical distances (but this might be mitigated somewhat by technology...)
  11. As something of a civil war buff I completely understand that. I even agree with it to some extent. I'd guess that nearly any black person would consider it a symbol of racism, nearly as much so as a pointy white hat. I think everyone would agree that it is controversial at best . . . and there is a simple solution. Have him cover it while on duty. Let him display it with pride while not in uniform.
  12. I can see your point. I have no problem with tattoos, it was just the content of this one that raised my eyebrows. I imagine there is a line somewhere...I don't think they'd allow racial slur or obscene tattoos to be visible. Apparently the flag tattoo is on the allowable side of the line. Thanks for the input, particularly since you have some firsthand knowledge here!
  13. I recently had a run-in with an outstanding young member of the Alabama State Patrol. (no ticket!) This gentleman had a Confederate flag tattooed prominently on the top of his forearm. Because the State Patrol wears short sleeved shirts it was clearly visible while he was in uniform. I'm all for freedom of speech . . . but when an agent of the state displays a symbol so commonly associated with racism wouldn't this cause apprehension for some?! I'm not suggesting no one should be allowed to display Confederate flags, it just seems wrong when it is displayed by someone wielding the power of the state. It really is a whole other country down there. What are your thoughts?
  14. I think tying anything to a specific coach is not so valid for a 50 year span. I agree KU's shorter term Question is can they maintain beyond Mangino, but that is key for us because we need to keep building momentum, as we have a lot of untapped resources. I would argue Mike Leach is the same as Mangino, but he is in Lubbock, where the upside is fully been realized for that program... Agreed. That's why I have questions about both programs. Will they continue improving? Or will a coaching change cause a precipitous slide?
  15. Heaven forbid that this lash-in-the-pan forward pass thing takes hold -Joe Football Fan, 1906 Mr. huKSer, meet tongue in cheek humor. Mr carlfense, meet tongue in cheek response. We both need to acquaint ourselves with this: PS What is your tongue doing in my cheek? Ewwwww Eh. Jokes aren't nearly enjoyable when prefaced with "this is a joke."
  16. I believe you are referring to the Texas state law that requires that Texas public colleges admit all students with a certain GPA, test score, or class rank. UT officials worried that they couldn't admit all of these students and still have room for scholarship athletes. I'd expect the law to be changed far before it has any impact on UT football.
  17. Good topic! I think my list would look like this . . . 1-2. Texas, Oklahoma (obviously) 3-5. Nebraska, OSU, aTm. (Nebraska has the support and winning history...OSU and aTm haven't shown that they can actually get it done on the field although they seem to get good athletes and ridiculous amounts of financial support) 6. Missouri (very close to 3-5, maybe should be lumped in with them as well, I think it was Osborne who referred to them as a "sleeping giant.") 7. Texas Tech (interesting to see where they end up without Leach) 8. Colorado (has been there and done that...but it was 19 years ago) 9-10. Baylor (losing tradition, improving facilities and coaching), Kansas (I see Kansas as similar to Texas Tech without the recruiting advantage of being in Texas. How good will they be without Mangino?) 11-12. Iowa State, Kansas State

  19. I could see this happening...think it might be fun. The only thing is since this concept isn't new in the Big 12, it might not be that big of an advantage. Other teams that use it would have an advantage since they see that kind of pace in practice all the time. Definite advantage against teams that don't use it - which would cover about all the North for the most part, with maybe the exception of Missouri. Call me old fashioned but I'd rather see an old school/grind it out/ball control offense than these flash-in-the-pan no-huddle contraptions. (apparently this needs an edit to let people know that I am kidding. So . . . I'm joking. Sorry for the confusion.)
  20. We'll know for sure on Wednesday. Yeah, right or wrong, we should finally know then.
  21. Based on high school stats against mediocre competition?! Seriously... let's talk in 4 years. Let me know then if you think he is a Phillips/Green type back.
  22. Ok, I'll bite. I don't necessarily consider myself old or young, I am 29. However, those that look back in awe of the glory years only like to thing that the Huskers built up the empire with a roster that consisted solely of walk-on beefeaters from Smalltown, Nebraska. Osborne had some of the best recruiting classes in the country. Between 93 and 98, I think all classes were rated no lower than 12th. The 1985 class with Steve Taylor and Sandman was a consensus #1 class. What about the class with Turner Gill? It's this head in the clouds infatuation with the 80s and 90s that is annoying. That is no where near USC's top 3 classes every year under Carroll! Those classes were also not consensus, meaning agreed upon by more than one recruiting guru. Gill played on NU teams that passed more than the 90s teams and USC has 3-5 deep top 5 ranked HS QBs. For NU to get Frazier was a steal, since they didn't have the market cornered on option QBs like SC has on pro-style QBs. Sanchez, #1, Corp #4, Mustain, #1, Barkley #1... Where were the two backups to #15 ranked in the recruiting rankings? Perhaps, but you are missing the big point here.... USC sucks and I hate them...have always hated them...and will always hate them. So no matter what USC does or how their recruiting classes rank, blah blah blah...the bottom line is they suck. Carry on.... If you hate them so much, why do you have them in your sig?.. Haha! Well played. I spilled coffee over that.
