  1. im coming, and driving a short style camper van (class C with bonuses for the camperati) with a group of buds. any hot spots for guys to park you know of real close? weve done it before in other towns in a hospitable fans yard type deal, so im looking for that first, but ill take anything you can think of. if not, ill think of it on my own. it always seems to work out. You will like being parked on campus which means you can tailgate and walk to both the stadium and the bars in less than 10 minutes. Not sure how that all works in terms of permits, but I know the "Prices Fork" lot is reserved for RVs, campers etc starting the night before the game. I think most of the other lots are reserved for season passes etc. Go on hokiesports.com and contact the ticket office. They should be able to answer your questions if you want to stay on campus. If not, there are tons of places (yards, church parking lots, school parking lots) where you will see signs for parking. I would not worry too much about places to park your camper - you will be fine in Blacksburg. Heck, you can probably park outside my apartment complex. We take the bus down to campus so we avoid dealing with parking. Its only a mile away.
  2. Runza is a Nebraska fast food chain. They are awesome. Runza is sort of like a hollowed out roll with meat and cheese and onions and stuff like that packed inside of it. I think the burgers at Runza are better than Runzas, but that isn't to important. mmmmm...I'll take 3. Killer cacti... The Runza was strangely enough very tasty. If it wasn't for the Huskers coming back on us at the moment I was eating it I may have had a second one. I hope the Huskers bring some with them to Lane in the fall As for the turkey legs, I would be happy to ship some to Clemson. You all have the nicest fans in the ACC - almost as nice as those out in Lincoln As for the comment about TT. I think a few teams have tried to put a spy on him - especially toward the end of last season and that really opened up some of the passing game. He will always break some big runs - I think the key for NU's defense will be to contain the overall running game, because if they can't stop us on first down, our passing game will open up (at least I hope so). I love tough D, so I like that Bo is staying away from what I see as "crazy" focus on offense in the Big 12.
  3. glm09, I think our defense will be strong and the d-line stronger than last year. I think we will miss Macho Harris the most on D, but there are several other playmakers in the backfield. I assume your offense will be stronger this upcoming year, but that your running game needs to be able to improve given you will have a young QB (especially early in the seaon on the road). Running on us will probably be tough, but if you have a balanced offense I am confident that NU will move the ball on just about anyone next fall. As for TT's passing game. Not sure how this offseason is going, but he did improve his passing later in the season, which I personally think can be attributed to the WRs getting better (mostly freshmen). I hope we can rely a little more on his arm this fall. I think a lot of Hokies will keep a close eye on the Huskers in the first two games to see how your offense improves. I'm excited about the Bama opener as well, but I guess the great time we had in Lincoln last year makes me extra excited about having you all in Lane Stadium.
  4. Turkey legs? That sounds unbelievably cool. All we serve for food at the games is Valentino's pizza (probably has something to do with nostalgia, considering the first Valentino's was founded in Lincoln. Hokieluv, grab me a turkey leg and express ship it to Lincoln. Runzas - that's it! Good stuff. Turkey legs are best consumed at Lane Stadium in the fall. I'm sure the Huskers that make the trek to VA in the fall will get the chance to try it like we tried the Runzas in Lincoln.
  5. Turkey legs? That sounds unbelievably cool. Hokieluv, grab me a turkey leg and express ship it to Lincoln. Haha. Yes, those turkey legs are great - as you can see even the Clemson fans like 'em. My favorite at Memorial Stadium back in September was that that thing I can not remember what is was called... Shoot! We were in the NU section and the locals made me eat it - supposed to be a big Nebraska thing. It was awesome!!! I must have had 100 NU fans watch me take the first bite! Kind of like a hot dog but more meat! I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about.
  6. Killer Cacti, glad you enjoyed Blacksburg. Isn't it ironic that we sell turkey legs at the games??? Too bad there is no Clemson-VT regular season game this year either. ACC championship?
  7. Haha. I don't think we are talking national championships in Blacksburg yet, and neither should the 2000 game have too much to do with the 2009 team... However, I think many of us in Blacksburg have been waiting for this season after a couple of seasons of rebuilding. We were extremely young this year with WRs with no college experience and fresh RB. Most of our D is intact so we are optimistic. For those of us who also follow the Big 12 we are excited to see NU's second season under Bo as last season looked very promising. Having you visit us in September makes it even more exciting. A top 5 ranking??? Well, its early so I would rather wait and see. VT-NU in Lane Stadium will be awesome whatever our rankings are. You have our respect so I do not think we will take light on this game.
  8. I agree with basically all of that. In 2010, keeping in mind this is really looking ahead.....NU should be the clear favorite in the North. I see NU going 9-3 with losses to OU, V-Tech and a team from the north. Of course I think it will be Kansas, since it is on the road, and for the most part the teams are evenly matched. I just think NU takes a step back on offense, and it costs them in Lawrence. But, that doesn't mean they can't win the north. Kansas has to play Texas, OU and Texas Tech. We could go 0-3 again, even with Texas Tech losing alot of their skill players. Texas Tech has had KU's number, and a Mark Mangino coached team hasn't beat them yet. I think NU will be the "surprise" team in the Big 12. Media won't count you as contenders for the North title but I think the strides you made unde Bo in his first year is an indication of you winning all your North games and possibly a loss to OU. That way you should get a chance for a rematch in your conference championship game. I really enjoyed watching your games this year, and I really hope you only have one more loss next season... in Blacksburg
  9. Any writer who puts Tech in their top 10 is out of their f'n minds!!! But beating any ranked (or near ranked) team on nat. T.V. will be huge in building momentum in recruiting, and more importantly for the start of our conference schedule. Last years meltdown still makes me gag! Can't wait to return the favor to those chicken hawks in their house! HAHA. Chicken Hawks!!!! I have no idea how many Huskers asked us what a Hokie is when we were in Lincoln last year. At least you are on the right track with the chicken comment, although I sense it being a little derogatory... That's OK. I can not wait to have you all come to Blacksburg. Nothing more exciting than good rivals in town. Pretty sure that both teams will improve greatly and that it will be one heck of a game. Hopefully the game will be at night. Nothing like Lane Stadium at night and plenty of time to eat and drink before the game. Regarding rankings: for us it will all depend on how we deal with Bama in Atlanta. If we win that one we will probably be ranked fairly high. Scout ranks you guys higher than us in their preseason poll. Gosh, spring and summer can't go by fast enough.
  10. It is interesting to me as a VT fan that you all would get upset over what an OU fan says. You are a program on the rise and why would you not expect to have a chance to beat any team in your conference? Maybe being in the ACC where everyone can beat everyone has made me overly optimistic, but I see no reason why NU couldn't take home the conference title next year. OU and UT will probably both be strong in 2009, but if you make it to the Big 12 championship why would you not have a chance to beat either of them? With the traditions you have and the types of recruits Bo is bringing in I would expect to see NU to be in contention really soon for both the Big 12 and even bigger titles! If there is anything to learn from big blow-outs (like the OU-NU 2008 game) it is that one should be careful getting too confident. The key for most Big 12 teams will be to shut down OU's offense, and I am sure boosting the defense is a priority for Bo and staff this offseason. Having the opponent score 50/60+ each game makes it very hard to win, so if you can keep OU from scoring like that the games should be a lot closer. Can't wait for our game in Blacksburg in September.
  11. Haha. Yes, we can have a BBQ here. Would love to have the Huskers over the night before You all were so nice to us that it is hard to imagine how we can repay your hospitality. We have to make some plans as the spring progresses. If you want to find a place to stay within walking distance from campus you need to make arrangements NOW. The Inn at Virginia Tech is on campus and the normal rates are in excess of $140 but I would not count on them having any availability on any game weekends. Its worth a check though. There is also a Holiday Inn right across the street, a Marriott right down the street, and several other options within a short radius. I can assemble a list and post here in the next few days. Nothing is far, but I don't know how much availability there is. Once you are near downtown Blacksburg you can walk to the stadium within 5-10 minutes almost regardless of how much you have been "warming up"... If I came in from out of town I would make reservations now even if I didn't have tickets. Although there are hotels in nearby towns I think you would enjoy the pregame atmosphere in Blacksburg. Not much else going on in Blacksburg so we get really excited about football season. I know NU fans can appreciate that! We experienced that first hand back in September.
  12. Hi guys. Greensboro is about 2.5hrs drive from Blacksburg. There is plenty of RV parking as all of the campus parking lots are used for game-day parking (Lane Stadium is on campus). BUT, you may want to check with the VT ticket office regarding permits etc. Not sure how that works. My gut feeling is that those sell out fast. You can check out www.hokiesports.com for contact information etc. As for the question about restaurants. There are plenty of restaurants considering it is a college town and all of them are in walking distance to the stadium. Finding a table on game day may be hard. We usually go from bar to bar to drink, but sitting down to eat may be tough on game day. Any of the places along Main Street will be full of fans the day before and on game day. As in Lincoln, feel free to wear your jerseys etc and I think people will be very nice and be excited to talk football with you. I hope you all get as many tickets as you need. We bought our tickets for last year's game online and paid an arm and a leg (however it was fun sitting among all the NU season ticket holders...). I think our tickets go on sale in March and they will probably appear online shortly thereafter.
  13. First of all; thank you for your unbelievable hospitality when we visited Lincoln this past season. My girlfriend and I were over-whelmed with your kindness before, during, and after the game. We had heard so much from friends in the Big 12 about your fans, but the warm welcome we experienced was simply unreal! Now it's our time to welcome you to Blacksburg. Having Nebraska come to Lane Stadium is something most Hokie fans look forward to. Not only because you are one of the greatest football programs of all time, but also because you are a program on the rise. I think many of us started following your program more closely after our game this past fall and we expect great things from NU in the years to come. We hope that many of you will make the trip to Blacksburg. Not sure if we are as friendly as you were to us... but I think most visiting fans have a good time in Blacksburg. We noticed that some of you had questions in an earlier post regarding hotels etc. Blacksburg is small! Hotels fill up fast so unless you make reservations way early you may have to stay in nearby towns (Christiansburg 10mins, Radford 20mins, Roanoke 50mins). However, on game days the travel time will be longer! If you plan on flying in the closest airport will be in Roanoke, but you may also want to check fairs to Greensboro, NC. Some of you had questions regarding tailgating etc. Most of us really enjoy it when visiting fans join us for tailgating around the VT campus. You may also want to check out the bars along Main Street which runs along campus and only a few minutes walk from Lane. Although police tends to ticket visibly drunk fans or fans carrying open bottles on their way to the stadium, they usually let it slide if you drink out of a plastic cup etc. If you behave reasonably appropriate you really don't have much to worry about. Thanks again for your kindness this past fall and welcome to Blacksburg and Virginia Tech this fall!
