  1. Iowa State, Baylor, Colorado... Whoopty friggin doo.... Also, I'm assuming by "team player" you mean "playa" and spending time with chicks and not in the playbook, right? Who did Ron Kellogg beat?.................My point exactly. If I remember correctly Zac Lee took all the snaps in the Iowa St game in which NU lost........... But these two are quality depth, but Cody Green was a bum.......right....... and no....I said it correct the first time.....he was a TEAM PLAYER......Cody Green was a class act on campus, very respectful, up beat and his teammates loved him. He came from a great house hold. I respected the way he carried himself even when he was in high school. Let's stay on subject, or close your mouth if you have nothing to add rather than making idiotic comments about a former husker's character that you know nothing about. He's done nothing to disrespect this program, even in his departure, you don't have to be a fan of him but childish comments about his character shouldn't be added into a conversation, especially if it's off topic.
  2. Please......name one player in history who went an entire season with an injury that required surgery, that so obviously hindered his production, yet we saw no signs of it in any of the games. Excuses can be made forever, but fact is, Lee only looked like a NFL caliber QB vs Sun Belt teams. Roy Helu went through an entire season with a bum shoulder. He continued to play, and it was obvious that it was taking away from his ability, but we knew it not only because the coaches came forth with it, but because you can see how he was trying to protect it, while still playing with 110% effort. Rex had severe injuries during his 1st and last year, we saw how he carried himself on and off the field during that time. What about after Martinez's injury, we were able to see the difference in his statue, regardless of not knowing everything the doctor knew about his conditions...............But Zac Lee. He bombs for a whole season with the exception of some Sun Belt match ups. Never shows any sign of wear and tear in any games, just the inability to produce. At the end of the season he tells everyone that he was injured those whole season, and we dismiss his lack of production and use it as an excuse to why he still couldn't produce the following season or even hold on to his starting spot. He doesn't get drafted, doesn't get a call about a Free Agent interest. Doesn't get invited to a mini camp. Doesn't make a practice squad.....nothing. And none of that has anything to do with he just isn't a good QB. It's all on this ghost injury that's keeping him down.......ok.
  3. Only those who click on the thread and take time to write a response, even if it doesn't contribute to the discussion.....
  4. #1- True, but Green COULDN'T perform and do what our starter could, so what is your point? Green collapsed every time he had the opportunity to shine. He had the opportunity to make up for his mistakes and couldn't, like Martinez was and has been able too. #2- Lee's elbow injury lingered his whole Senior year, that is why you saw Green in against TAMU, and not Lee. This is something even the coaches said, when asked about it. When you did see Lee in, you could tell he isn't what he use to be, not because of a lack of skill, but because of that lingering elbow injury. #3- How do you think we would have pulled Armstrong's RS? Would we have been the first college that played a QB that was in a wheelchair? #4- No, your obviously just trying to find something to argue about. If you really think we had depth before this year, you really need to stop drinking the kool-aid. Where did we have QUALITY depth at QB before this year? Who have we had that could come close to what Armstrong or RKIII are? I have already explained why Armstrong and RKIII are quality backups. The difference between these two QB's and the others we have had, they are still being talked about by the coaches. RKIII knows how to read defenses, who do you think gives Martinez the plays on checks? Armstrong is repeatidly being talked about that he will clearly be the #2 starter, and the coaches are excited about it. Just because someone doesn't have in-game experience, that doesn't mean they aren't a "quality" backup. If you can't tell there is a difference between this year, and the other years that Taylor has been our starter, than I am pretty much wasting my time in a response anyway. 1. No arguing that. Green was not the athlete Martinez was, but he was no slouch. And he didn't exactly get the "red carpet" when he was inserted into games. Being put in one the 2 yard line as a true freshman who has admitted he only KNEW 15 plays during fall camp.....how is that a fair opportunity to shine. But when given a week and a game plan centered around his skill set, he won the games (obviously with the exception of OU, where as he was taken out because he showed that he was yet a true freshman). C'mon man. Again you are making it seem like Green was a the biggest bum we put at the position. He was more than serviceable and quite frankly never got a fair shot to show he can be the guy. He definitely didn't get the same opportunity and/or leash that Martinez received. 2. Many want to blame Lee's inability to be great on an elbow injury that he announced after a horrible season. Funny how none of this came out the whole season. Even players didn't know nothing about it til the announcement. When did he get this injury. During the VT game? That was his first horrible showing. Where was that injury when he put up 55 on the Louisiana Rajin' Cajans? Was it the Mizzou game. Maybe the injury aided his glorious comeback in the 4th quarter. Funny how his best showings were against Sun Belt teams and he struggled in every conference game but NO ONE knows anything about the injury, and no one points out that he's looking a be favoring an elbow in any game all year. Now he could have had a injury, at some point, hell he got surgery for it. Next year he should be fine. He's participating in 7 on 7s in the summer. Tells the media he's feeling great, very close to 100%. In the fall says he's ready to be back out on the field with his team and ends up as the 3rd option at QB. Even when he goes in to relieve Martinez vs Mizzou.....he's ability looks no different........."Oh, that injury is still nagging him".......NO, he just wasn't that good of a QB......that's not harsh, it's the truth. Even at the end of the season, why people are claiming he may be still suffering from the previous season's injury, he tells the media, that he was at a 100% and even when he did have his minor injury during the 2010 season, he was fine by the next game. 3. Armstrong got a surgery to fix a injury he received in high school. The surgery was during the week of the Michigan game I believe. He was on crutches for a week and on the bike by the time Penn St came to town. I doubt Bo would have pulled his shirt after missing 3/4 of the season already. 4. Please, why would I try to find something to argue about. I asked what's the difference between the INEXPERIENCE of Armstrong/Kellogg in 2012, that you consider QUALITY DEPTH......and the ACTUAL GAME TIME (STARTING) EXPERIENCE of Green/Lee in 2010 that you consider NO DEPTH........ Your answers: -because Armstrong and Kellogg are still talked about (they are still on the roster, it would sound pretty stupid for the staff to be talking about Green/Lee...don't you think) -Kellogg knows the playbook because he sends the plays in to Martinez (What do you think Green did for Lee in 2009. What do you think Green/Lee did for Martinez in 2010....as a matter of fact, one of the reasons people questioned Martinez's leadership and dedication is because we he was sidelined for whatever reason <injury/ or the rare time he was pulled from a game> he sat on the back bench and wasn't sending in signals or encouraging the back up going in to replace him) -because the staff is excited when talking about Armstrong..... (Where were you when Green first arrived on campus shortly after new years. Did you not here all the "Tommie Frazier" comparison's due to him being a true freshman with a possible chance at starting. Did you not hear/read the message board after he took his first snap as a Husker vs FAU and ran down field for 49 yards almost scoring if it wasn't for a teammate being in the way.) To the bold print in your post........your "waste of time in responding" is not on the fact that I don't agree with your opinion. You waste of time is the fact that you state your opinion with no logic what so ever to support it. Quotes like "just because they don't have any in game experience, doesn't mean they aren't a quality back up" When you have quotes like this: Let's me know you refuse to use logic and/or reality to make a point. You are basically going off of the hype of others and the opinion you created because of it. To you only Zac Lee, the worst starter of the Pelini era was quality depth, regardless of the fact he was placed at the 3rd QB on the depth chart because he was beaten by two underclassmen. You also think that Ron Kellogg who has a total of 25 yards (22 passing 4/11 and 3 rushing on 2 attempts) 1 TD/1Int/1fumble is quality depth. But a Cody Green who has had 4 starts, undefeated as a starter, was one of the best team players on the sideline is nothing to brag about. I agree your response was a waste of time. You aren't making any sense.
  5. Ummm.....no. Cody Green was more than serviceable and gave us much better chance vs aTm. Hell, Z.Lee was healthy enough to manage the offense in that game. No they weren't the play makers that Martinez was (healthy) but Martinez was no better than any QB in the nation after the injury in 2010. I can't remember which game Martinez came back in at QB replacing either Green/Lee and the defense was heard screaming (even on the TV) for a blitz because Martinez couldn't move around and his passing played defense on itself. Cody green was melting down like everyone else in College Station that night. Cody Green just didnt have the mentality. The skills, yes, but not the mentality. I don't think melting down was the case for anyone in that game. There was a lot of things going wrong in that game that had nothing to do with what the Huskers were doing. I'm not much of a conspiracy man, but watching that game seriously made me wonder if there was really something going on. Every single time the huskers made a great play or was gaining momentum, a questionable flag appeared. Yet, the most penalized team in the league all of a sudden became extra disciplined and only left with 2 penalties. Regardless, calmer heads have to prevail. Bo melted down. Ben Cotton melted down. The team melted down. Cody Green proceeded to sh#t his pants. Taylor Martinez was recruited to play qb. He brought here to play qb. He is the type of qb Bo has envisioned. He knows that is the most difficult to stop in college ball. He played WR for the scout team as a true frosh in '09 that I know of. That's where the WR perception came from. He was never going to be a WR however. That is true. Calmer heads do have to prevail. All I'm saying is that Cody Green was not experiencing another situation similar to what he saw again Oklahoma. Green came in and like the rest of the team was at the mercy of the zebra's. It wasn't that he was shook in College Station. And Taylor was not recruited to play QB. He was recruited as an ATH as the Pelini's liked his athleticism and wanted him as a DB, but gave a promise to give him a look at QB. Remember Carl was his lead lead. Bo followed up with that promise 100 fold. No D-1 program in the nation was going to give him a chance at QB, including the programs in his area (UCLA/USC/San Diego St/etc). Our QB for the class was brought in by Sean Watson (Cody Green). And yes, on the scout team he started out as a DB/WR. Eventually just staying on the offensive side of the ball because his athleticism was a mismatch to even out talent secondary. This is where some figured he'd be the following season. Being that the offense performed so terrible the previous season Bo needed a playmaker to spark the offense and who else would you choose to try out other than the scout team MVP and recruit who you already promised an opportunity at QB. The rest is, as they say,.......history.
  6. Are we reading the same thread? Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen any shots at Martinez suggesting he is not good? Maybe I am skimming it quickly but it seems like there are the old "T-Mart should not have been starting" type of thing, who knows. I get what you are saying, but no I don't think that is the vibe in this thread. At least that's my perception.
  7. Are we reading the same thread? Maybe I missed it, but I haven't seen any shots at Martinez suggesting he is not good?
  8. +1 There was a football board call Huskerpedia a few years back and I remember how much hype Zac Lee being SOOOOO MUCH BETTER than Joe Ganz and Patrick Witt (since he transferred)..... But speculation and predictions make the off season so much fun.
  9. Ummm.....no. Cody Green was more than serviceable and gave us much better chance vs aTm. Hell, Z.Lee was healthy enough to manage the offense in that game. No they weren't the play makers that Martinez was (healthy) but Martinez was no better than any QB in the nation after the injury in 2010. 10. I hope you're right. At that point in Cody Green's career we thought we had "quality" depth behind Martinez as well. We all thought the QB race was between Lee/Green, which is saying something for Green considering Lee had started the prior year and finished the season w/ a great game. Only time will tell, we just haven't seen enough of Armstrong yet to make much of a determination of what he'll become. Very true, but we have seen a glimpse of what RKIII can bring to the table. Even better, he knows the playbook better than Martinez does, and he can read defenses. He just isn't the guy that fits our offense, hence why he isn't the starter. If we were strictly a west coast pocket passing offense, he would most likely be our #1 guy. Cody Green just couldn't perform on the field, and I was never impressed with him here. This is how some guys are, but the mental aspect between Armstrong and Green are completely different. How the hell are you hyping Ron Kellogg would be a starter over Taylor Martinez in a different system but suggesting that Cody Green couldn't perform. Ron Kellogg III - 4/11 for 22 yards passing. 3 yards rushing on 2 carries. 1 TD, 1 INT and 1 Fumble..........I'm very interested in hearing the logic the logic or "common sense" supporting that. How do you know he knows the playbook better? How do you know he reads defenses better? The only defense he see consistently is the one in practice. For all of his knowledge with the play book, why is it that Beck doesn't open up the call when he does make it to the field. I see a lot of handing off.
  11. Edited some things for you. Simply put, the reason Martinez played injured his fresman and sophomore year, was because of the lack of depth. Just because you have a body, doesn't mean you have depth. This is common sense. This year, we have QUALITY depth, something Taylor has NEVER had behind him, except for Lee, but he was injured. Thanks for the help with the edits.....I should have proof read it before sending but hey it's a message board.. Your Edits: -I don't know why I put he red shirted that season. Brain fart on my end..... -Green didn't fumble the ball any more than the starter did. Try again. -Lee was NOT injured that entire season. He sat out one practice after the original report of his injury. He stated at the end of the season that he was fine by the time the next game came. If you are going to put "injured" next to his name then you should do the same for Green both years. He pulled a groin muscle in 2010 and 2009 he got dinged up in practice just before the start of conference play. -I understand the Carnes situation. I'm not arguing that. But he was still on roster and on scholarship, which is all I was pointing out in this post -I put Marsh at 5th string because it was obvious to most everyone around the program that if Martinez went down, that Armstrong's red shirt would be pulled and he was trusted to take over before Kellogg. That would make Marsh the 5th option. Then again, it would make him the 4th because Carnes was moved out to WR... -Marsh....yea another brain fart....I was just typing and threw his name in there. -Pretty premature on Stanton....really? What do you KNOW about Stanton that says he will do anything other than red shirt...He's coming off a season ending injury. He will arrive on campus just before fall camp, there will be 3 scholarship QBs on campus who have been in the playbook for at least a season. 2 of them are equally as good an athlete, 1 is a 3 year starter. Every conversation about next season at this point is "premature" in that case. -RF & TB....are they scholarship QBs or walk ons........there were walk ons on the other seasons also, but I chose to focus on just the "scholarship" QBs as they are more likely to make the depth chart and see the field. And since we are talking "common sense" Based on this quote "Simply put, the reason Martinez played injured his fresman and sophomore year, was because of the lack of depth. Just because you have a body, doesn't mean you have depth. This is common sense. This year, we have QUALITY depth, something Taylor has NEVER had behind him, except for Lee, but he was injured." What is the difference of THIS YEAR from the previous years as far as the depth.......none of the current back ups have significant playing time if any, just a bunch of hype by media/coaches/fans for the most part yet you say that it is QUALITY dept but say we have no depth in the previous years when the situation was the EXACT SAME most years, except 2010 where you had 3 QBs whom all had at least 4 games of starting experience by the end of the season. Common sense tells me you didn't think that comment out before trying to use it suggest I have no common sense in my logic......
  12. - He was injurred halfway through the Missouri game....there were 6 games after that. so 6.5 games...that's a pretty good chunk of the non-gimme games...about all them. - You know Watson wanted Green in? How so, because he had performed so well up to that point? - Zac Lee was reportedly injured as well - We lost 1 of those three, and barely got by ISU in OT...and Martinez/Lee bailed Green out of at least 1 if not 2 of those starts to give him the W. ....and Marsh left the program a long time ago. -Martinez didn't play in 2 of those games remaining (ISU/CU) so 4.5 games is still a big chunk but no most of the season -Who do you think recruited Green? Green was recruited and mentored by Watson. Strong arm and decent mobility is what Watson looked for in his QBs, (refer to Teddy Bridgewater) Watson knew nothing about Martinez when asked after the Arizona game about what he thinks Martinez's chances are at the QB position. Why is that? Because Martinez didn't work out with the QBs as a redshirt. He played WR. If you care to go back and look at the players who were raving about his speed, you'd notice they were DBs (Amukumara/Hagg/Gomes?etc).....why? Because those were the guys covering him.. Even during spring camp that year, there were disagreements between Bo and Shawn about their evaluations of the QBs, this is what caused (or rather aided to) the lack of chemistry amongst the two. Without throwing out names of sources, I'll just say there's a reason why Bo was so willing to "help" Watson find another gig after the 2010 but defended him repeatedly for the 2009 season.......hmmmm......also, to the fact that Cody Green decided to transfer after the spring camp even though he would have been one injury away from starting at NU under the new OC. There's a reason why newly inducted HOF'er Tommie Frazier had less than positive comments about how the current staff was handling the QB rotation a couple seasons back (remember B.Carnes is his relative). Many feel/felt that Bo's standard for competing for you job every week doesn't apply at that position......just sayin'. -Yes, Lee was "reported" injured, but Lee also said at the end of the season that he was good to go the next after his injury. A lot of things are "reported" and not "reported", but do you really think we will know everything about through the media?...... -Which one did we lose.....His starts were against Baylor (2009), Oklahoma (2009), Iowa St (2010), & Colorado (2010).....Yes, he was only in for a series for the OU game. But he also led the only TD drive for NU in the TTU game. None of the games he started Martinez had a snap in so I'm not sure what you are saying there. Give credit where credit is due, rather than belittling his accomplishments so that your opinion may seem valid. -I totally forgot Marsh was no longer here. He went to UNK right?
  14. No. -1st it wasn't most of his freshman year. He played in 4 games after his injury, that's not most of the season -2nd, the decision to keep him in was the decision of an inexperienced HC not the experienced OC. Martinez is Bo's guy. Watson wanted Green in. -3rd, the 3rd player on the roster had a year of starting experience under his belt. Though Z.Lee wasn't that good, he still is able to manage the offense. -4th, our next 3 games were against ISU/KU/aTm...none were big threats. Bo's wanted to give that "fear factor" to the opposing defenses so he stuck a QB who could barely walk on the field. Green was 4-0 as a starter at NU, which shows he had at least enough talent to manage the offense. This is your perception, and you are welcome to having that opinion but it doesn't make it fact. If you have 4 QBs on scholarship, that is depth....... Here's the depth of each year. 2008 -Joe Ganz - starter -Patick Witt - back up -Zac Lee - redshirt -Kody Spano - redshirt 2009 -Zac Lee - Starter -Cody Green - Back up -LaTravis Washington - 3rd string -Kody Spano - injured 2010 -Taylor Martinez - Starter -Cody Green - back up -Zac Lee - 3rd string -LaTravis Washington - 4th string -Kody Spano - injured 2011 -Taylor Martinez - Starter -Brion Carnes - back up -Ron Kellogg - 3rd string 2012 -Taylor Martinez - Starter -Ron Kellogg - back up -Tommy Armstrong - red shirt -Bronson Marsh - 5th string (How I see the current season going) 2013 -Taylor Martinez - starter -Tommy Armstrong - back up -Ron Kellogg - 3rd string -Bronson Marsh - 4th string -Johnny Stanton - red shirt When you take your emotions out of a response you'll began to realize how flawed your opinion is. Now obviously there's no Heisman finalists starting in that group and no "Brook Berringers" at back up, but those were the scholarship QBs we had, which is depth. Injuries served it's role in a couple of the years also. Not really sure you logic behind this. Heard's departure was more due to Cross/Newby/Taylor being more apart of the running game. Those young guys weren't looking to go to a program that could only promise them 2-3 snaps a game. That was the overall picture painted when Heard was asked to change positions for the 3rd time in 2 seasons. And we are a better team when we have both the rushing game and the passing game click, thus giving that "multiple" attack that Bo has been preaching about since he got to Lincoln. It's the exact same approach that Beck takes with his offense. You don't rely heavily on either so that you keep the defense on it's heels.
  15. Multiple players at one position is......depth... Now the quality of that depth we don't know til they are tested, but it still is depth. We have 4 scholarship QBs on the roster (Martinez/Armstrong/Kellogg/Stanton). That's depth. I'm not sure what the point was with this comment.
  16. Another thing to add that with his better mechanics, he's also working with the best receiving corps NU has ever had and hands down the most dangerous unit in the conference. We won't need him to be an aggressive runner but a smart runner. We already know he has the play making ability, that's what strikes fear in any DC he has to face, but imagine if he becomes just as strong at game management. Taking off running when nothing is open down field rather than leaving the pocket too early nullifying his pass protection. Throwing the ball away rather than forcing the ball in double coverage. And so on and so on.
  17. This year will be the first year since his freshman season that Martinez will have quality back up behind him. I would like to see Martinez run more aggressively but not necessarily trying to "run people over". That's not his forte nor should he try to make it that way. Martinez has been a warrior as a signal caller. The way he braces for tackles on the run some times causes whole sections and bars to cringe. Martinez is as durable as any, regardless of the high ankle sprain/turf toe that hindered the second half of his freshman season. But he doesn't exactly have a huge "upside" as far as development to be able to play at the next level. If his goal is to attempt to play QB (which I doubt he ever will in the NFL), he won't enhance his chances if he bruises himself up trying to run people over and, which I pointed out already, was never a part of his game. Hell, breaking a tackle is a rarity for him. 9 times out of 10 the first defender that can get a hand on him gets a stat for that play. His running ability is slightly different from Eric Crouch, who he's compared to often. Armstrong, will be the #2 QB next year. Last season, it's safe to say he was the "silent #2" as he was turning heads when he first arrived on campus with just his athletic ability, but the staff chose to red shirt him to give him time to mode into a serviceable college QB rather than just throwing him in the fire and depending on his raw ability. He had an excellent spring, and I heard from a few players that he demands respect in his actions and how he approaches his workouts on the field and in the weight room. If Martinez would have went down for an extended time last season Armstrong would have been the guy we seen stepping in for him. But since Martinez was healthy most the season, and no significant injuries, Armstrong was able to save a year and get into his playbook. RKIII is a great guy, goofy kid, but I doubt we will ever see him take a significant snap or a snap at all barring injury. Last season, in his limit snaps, he didn't show himself to be much of a better option than the back up he replaced (Brion Carnes). He'll be the "LaTravis Washington" of the group this year. Johnny Stanton, he will redshirt and get an opportunity make a case for himself as a valuable back up in 2014. An Elite 11 finalist (would have won had he not left camp to be with his team, great teammate). He's the exact type of QB Beck wants/needs in his system, but I think he will have an up hill battle after his redshirt year trying to grab the starting spot from Armstrong as he would be in his 3rd season as a husker in 2014 (red shirt sophomore). He'll have some game time experience under his belt also.
  18. IMO, of the triplets, Braylon was the better back. He had the speed (as did Aaron Green), he had the power (as Ameer Abduallah), and the vision. The only thing that kept Heard off the field was the injury late in his freshman season and the one mid way through his sophomore year accompanied with his inability to pick up a blitz consistently. I really wish the staff would have done more to keep the young man here. He went through more than the average player to become a Husker (granted he put himself in that position by not getting the grades in school). I heard some say, well if he is better, then how come he didn't surpass Ameer: When he finally makes it on campus there are two other really good RB prospects he has to share back up duties with and none wanted to redshirt. After the season, the staff moved him to the defensive side of the ball, thus causing him to miss out on a chance at working with his position coach (Ron Brown), to get a better understanding of what the RB needs to do in this offense. Mainly how to pick up the blitz as protecting Martinez was a top priority being that we had no depth behind him, only RB the staff was confident in doing that consistently was Rex which is why the triplets didn't see the field as much. After Green's transfer Heard spent the summer still working out with C.Evans/SJB/etc...He was switched back to RB just before fall camp. After that season it was brought to him to possibly switch to the slot (WR) to make room for two 4* RB prospects who were promised touches as well as a young Imani Cross, and talented redshirt freshman King Frazier. That would put Heard at 3 consecutive springs away from working out at his natural position, RB (first year he sat out trying to get qualified to arrive in Lincoln). It's a slap in the face to have a young man go through so much to become apart of a program only for them to treat him as if he's disposable. I hope the kid has a great career and prove his doubters wrong, even if those doubters are Husker fans. He was everything we could ask in a player, and he was happy when he was on campus. But you can only smile so long when you feel you aren't getting a opportunity to be great.
  19. I stand in this crowd also, only because I don't think the university did much to warrant a year band. It may be ignorance on my part, but the actions of a few players whom aren't on the team any more and a coach who resigned shortly after didn't raise a major flag in my head. I understand the USC situation. I understand the Auburn situation. I understand the Penn St situation. I understand the Oregon situation. The little that I know about OSU doesn't warrant a year bad of the program, IMO. If it's something deeper than my understanding, then really, is a year band really a punishment for a program like that? My understanding is the year ban was for the coverup done by Tressel, and maybe their use of the tat 5 in the Sugar Bowl after they had been suspended. Yeah.. I know what the issue was, but no one is on that team that was involved in that situation (from what I recall). Sweatervest was dealt with, and the players shouldve been ineligible immediately. But a year bowl ban for that is a joke. Lets be honest...if every team got banned for a handful of players taking some sort of outside bribe - the BCS would consist of Sam Houston State and New Mexico. I agree here. The ban was a joke as it had no effect program. There's losing the previous season was more due to the vest no longer being on the sideline. But players whom violate NCAA rules being allowed to play in a bowl game, that generates more money for the program, if they agree sit out of some lesser important games the next season is an open disrespect to the laws in place. Mike Adams, DeVier Posey, & Dan Herron all got in some more trouble the following season. Posey & Herron got suspended for an extra week after the original suspension for receiving extra pay at a summer job in their home town. Mike Adams fail a drug test shortly before the NFL combine. He ended up going to the coach and GM of the Steelers and pleaded with them to give him another chance, which they did and took him in the 2nd round. We all know what happen with Terrell Pryor and what isn't happening for him in Oakland. Don't know much about Solomon Thomas and what came of him.
  20. I get what you are saying and I actually agree for the most part. I guess my thing is, the "luck" cliche is being thrown at this team as if they didn't put themselves in the position to benefit from a lucky bounce or two. As if this team was totally incapable of accomplishing anything without some weird magically odd rotation of the planets altered the atmosphere causing all these abnormal situations to happen just for Huskers. So, if that's your perception of luck, I agree. As I was growing up, I always heard from my coaches "you create your own luck". Do what you need to do to win the games you can't and possibly something will allow you to do what you aren't suppose to. The Huskers put themselves in the position to win every game this year through their own actions. Did they get a few calls to help them out through the season, yes, but they received an equal amount of calls to put them behind the eight ball at times also. The Huskers had no "lucky" advantage over any team they faced. That's all I'm trying say. Yep, sounds like we're on the same page here. Yes sir, I think we are.
  21. Id say he would be in the 4-6 rounds. He's undersized like the Oregon RB that went this year only way slower. And he went in the sixth I believe. Does anyone think Ameer can get to 210 and not lose speed. Cause I don't see many feature backs in the NFL that play at 195. I think it all depends on how each team uses their back. C.J. Spiller/Chris Johnson/Jamaal Charles all are in the 195-200 range and each of those guys were in the top 10 rushing last season. Given each of those guys are lightening fast (all running a 4.3 or better), makes me refer to reality on this and agree, 4-6 round would be about where he could go, maybe even 7th, but he will most likely return for his Sr. season and make a case for his draft stock. Its so hard for me to tell if Ameer has that kinda speed. He doesn't rip off big gainers as often as some of the guys you mentioned during their college careers. What was AAs 40? Not that is everything but if you're gonna be a smaller back. You better be able to hit the long ball. I do think he has the shiftiness. I'm not always in love with his vision(decision making). I thought Heard had great vision and Better instincts but that's for another thread. No AA is no where near that speed. His 40 has been clocked at 4.51 coming out of high school. That would be the knock against him when compared to other guys in the league at his weight. Ameer is our new version of Rex Burkhead. The vision and work ethic is there. He may get a 30+ yard gain every once in a while with some decent blocking, but we shouldn't expect him to out run a whole football team like Roy Helu vs Mizzou in 2010.
  22. That team was full of monsters everywhere. Even the guys most fans don't know anything about without a quick google search.
  23. Next years draft eligible players are Taylor Martinez, Quincy Eunuwa, Ciante Evans, Jamal Turner, Kenny Bell, Andrew Green, Stanley Jean-Baptiste, Cole Pensick, Jason Ankrah, Josh Mitchell, Ameer Abdullah, Harvey Jackson, Corey Cooper, Zaire Anderson, & Mo Seisay. In my opinion, each of those guys will or will have a chance to play a very consistent role in the success of our play next year. Of those guys, I think Z.Anderson, J.Turner, A.Abdullah, K.Bell, SJB, C.Evans, definitely have want it takes to be draft in at least one of the 7 rounds. All I think could possibly get a FA contract or at least get to a mini camp/practice squad. I don't see any of the Jrs. opting to go early though. This staff has done a pretty good job of keeping our upperclassmen around to serve a strong presence as a Sr. Yeah, not counting the juniors, I don't see it. SJB has all the measurables, but is still raw. Ciante maybe, a bit undersized though. Zaire has the potential, this is a big year for him. Has to prove it on a consistent basis and stay healthy. Same with Mo. Cooper and Jackson need breakout years, and if they are so draft eligible then they should have been getting a better look last year. We all know next years draft for us fans will revolve around where Tmart goes and at what position. I've never seen the "it" from Green. Solid contributor but too often I see the back of his jersey in games. Edit: forgot Zaire got his junior year back. I can't disagree on anything in this post. Not counting the Jrs. -SJB.....IMO, is the most athletic of the group but seems to be struggling a bit on playing the position. I think if he can get over that hump this season, he could be a steal for a team. Remember he's only been playing CB for two years. -C.Evan......he used to be the cause of majority of the curse words that were apart of my speech during the 2011 season. I felt like every time a blown coverage occurred that season, then I seen #17 chasing behind him. This could be do to the position coach and the techniques that he was teaching (remember even A.Denard wasn't comfortable with his techniques). 2012 Evans was one of the better players in the secondary. He's a big part of why Northwestern's QB/WR Kain Colter did have a career day this year. He also was the spy for Michigan's shoelace playmaker. Evans, if he continues to make strides can easily be a 4-5 round pick maybe even better -Zaire......yes, he was able to get a year back. I loved what I saw in the two weeks we got to see him. Our defense would have definitely been a better unit with him on field. If he stays healthy, I have no doubt he could be one of the good ones we remember for some time. I do hope he chooses to come back his Sr. year. -M.Seisay.....I loved the film on him when we recruited him and he gain early praise from his teammates and coaches. The injury kept husker fans who weren't able to view a workout in Lincoln from really seeing what this kid really can do. I hope that he is 100% come August and he plays lights out. -Cooper/Jackson....both have a year to build from ground 0, IMO. They have been in the system and consistently have been looked over at each of the two safety positions. Cooper is a disappointment to me. I really expected him to be a more prominent weapon on the defense by now. He was one of the jewels in the 2010 class, IMO. I hope this season he can really step out and leave a mark, setting a bar from the young guys coming in.
