  1. I have heard from the start that it will not be a night game because of NASCAR, my guess and this is just a guess is that Mack Brown new that too and thats another reason that he decided not to play this game on Thursday night, knowing that it would be a day game on Saturday. Let's face it, night games rock. The stadium is so much louder due to the fact that people start partying around 10am! I know for the OU game last year we go there at 11am and started to get after it! I think we can probably rule out an 11am or early start, so that probably leaves 2:30.
  2. I think that sometimes people think that a D1 kid should just be KILLING it in high school, like it should look like they are playing against 7th graders or something.
  3. See, I dont think that Cal, UCLA or USC has to offer kids from California all that soon, signing day is like 8 or 9 months away so they are probably looking over all the kids still and might not offer all of them right now.
  4. i believe Wyoming offered first but i could be wrong. Its not about them being the first, its about them being the first and only. if this kid was totally legit, dont you think one of the many d1 programs in CA wouldve offered him right away? Isnt it safe to say that any coach is gonna hype his kid up and never downplay his conference when asked? Isnt safe to say that any coach is gonna use any advantage possible like using the california card? Isnt it safe to say that a low division player has many question marks? i mean, at least i have some knowledge with my answers, everyone is giving me the safe card by saying trust the staff. besides that what else is out there? yeah he hits hard but he hits kids who will never sniff a d1 offer. i mean you heard unsportsmanlike conduct and even they saw how small those kids are. its comparable to freshman football in long beach and even then those freshman are already getting d1 offers. So what else needs to be said? I dont think that CA schools would have offered him right away, why would they? NU doesnt have to offer Nebraska kids right away because you always have that hometown pull. No, it is not safe to say that any/most high school coaches will hype up their kid and downplay their conferences "badness". I have been on 3 different staffs and helped send a few kids to D1 schools and its not really something that is done. High school coaches generally do not want to set up their kids for failure so most wont lie to convince a college coach anything. I dont know what the california card is so I cant answer that. Yeah, its safe to say that a lower division kid could have question marks. I think thats safe to say about any and all players. Also, most high school guys are not playing vs and hitting other D1 guys while in high school. I mean there are about 2,500 scholarships for D1 players per year and well, there are about 40,000 public and private high schools in the US, you got to think that if each one has a varsity football team and that averages about 40 players per team, well do the math. Most high school players never play vs another D1 guy. I played in the largest class in IL, my school had close to 3000 kids, the schools we played all had 3000 or more and I played against zero future D1 guys that I know of and I played with three guys that went on to play D1 but at non BCS schools.
  5. Vince, I have a question for you and I hope you answer it. Why can't NU be the first team to offer a kid and why can't if be okay for them to be the first to offer? Dont you think it is safe to assume that the staff looked at more then one 5 minute film and that they know where he plays and who he plays and that they talked to his coaches about him?
  6. From LJS: “He’d be a 15- to 20-offer guy easily,” Moschetti said. “This kid’s a national recruit, man. UCLA, Michigan, Notre Dame, everybody’s talking to him. They just hadn’t offered yet.” From OWH: Big-time programs ? such as Notre Dame, Michigan and Texas A&M ? were beginning to show interest in Bouzos, according to Moschetti. He said members of the Arizona coaching staff stopped by the school this week.
  7. Vince, just wondinerg but did you or do you post on the BRB and are you a BCer? I dont think you are but a lot of your posts just read much like the BRBers posts do.
  8. I would just say to remember that this kid is going to end up being over 200 pounds as well. Also, the game you saw did his team get a good or great pass rush? You can put the best cover guys in the world out there but if they have to cover for more then 3-4 seconds it usually turns ugly. My 3rd point would be that high school FS/SS are usually not sure cover guys, they are usually the best linebacker on the team but just a little to thin still.
  9. Maybe he was late in getting noticed or seen, perhaps grades are an issue. I dont know why but those are two pretty big offers to start with!
  10. I think the luck, is a HUGE part. I mean that sometimes the ball bounces right back to the same player or out of bounds instead of to the opposing player or a ball gets tipped an falls to the ground instead of being picked off. Just like some players have "it" when it comes to winning I think that sometimes luck, good or bad, plays a big part too. We could go back and look at 1000 posts about the NU/ISU game this year and I bet that 75% of them say something about "luck".
  11. Growing up in Illinois let me toss in my two cents. The reason people have a hard time with many Michigan fans is because Michigan fans like to pretend that Michigan is Harvard. Its not Harvard. The fans really arent bad they are just like any other school. You know how when a kid picks ND over NU and says its because of academics and all the NU fans freak out and start defending NU? Well that is Michigan, 24/7. Illinois fans usually just wait for basketball season, The illini have it tough because most of the alums live in Chicago which is a decent drive back to campus and those guys just kind of lose touch with the football team. They are great basketball fans though. MSU has some pretty cool fans and they love to party and they have some hot girls at that place. Lets face it though, every team has cool fans, ass fans, lame fans, smart fans* and fun fans. *smart fans are usually the second worst fan if you ask me. Look, the a-hole fan sucks because they are a$$hole$ but the smart fan, the fan that wants to chat with you about blocking schemes or a game that "their" team played 26 years ago or how if "your" corners creep up on run support it will mean a very long day for "your" team, well thats freaking boring as hell. People, most anyway, in the 21-40 range want to go to a game to drink, drink, eat, chase girls, go to the game and yell, sober up, leave the game and go drink.
  12. Okie State only scared me when BC was here. Him and his first 15 average plays only to watch him get killed after that. I remember Muschamp saying after the cotton bowl how he liked playing "those WCO guys, because after the first 15 plays it was easy to figure them out", no sh#t.
  13. I would not be so quick to think that a younger kid should just beat out a senior. Coaches trust kids that they have known and that have worked hard for them. It is very tough for a head coach to sit a senior that is good for a junior that has potential. You will see a lot of high school weight rooms that have signs saying "Potenial means you have not done anything yet", you have to prove it and most of the time that is proved with lots of time in the program.
  14. Again, he wasnt run down on that kick return, he scored a TD. He might not have been the number one back because he could very well be 160 pounds (at the start of his junior year), they probably had a senior starter, they probably run between the tackles a lot (like most high school teams) and like the other guy said, the Skers are looking for him to maybe be a DB. He might be average at best, I really don't know. I just know that looking at a clip from the Ralston game you can't tell either way.
  15. Honestly, I would say I am worried about each game with the exception of WKU and SDSU. I really dont think NU is at the point where they are going to be blowing teams out and be favored by 3 TD's in games.
  16. I hope you dont take this as me trying to be a jerk but first off, DO NOT USE MAX PREPS for stats, not saying they are always wrong but they are usually pretty bad. Just from coaching for the last 10 years in Nebraska I can tell you they are terrible. That doesnt mean his stats are wrong, its just that its a bad source of information. You are better off calling the individual school. Secondly,I think one time I mentioned that the kid might have been tired on one particular KO return. Thats it. Third, not every coach will call plays the way you or I think they should. So they might have limited his touches. 4th, he could have been dinged up a lot during the course of the year, lets face it, not every little nagging injury makes the paper. You asked about stats, remember the Gabberts, they both had craptastic stats, vs craptastic competition and they were both losers in high school. Yet, they were 5 and 4 star guys. I think they both even got dinged up all the time. High school coaches do what they feel is best for their team. I think that Carriker was a QB in high school, I think Tony Veland might have been too. High school coaches are not worried about what college coaches want. Maybe this year, as a senior, the offense will be switched a bit to focus on him? Maybe the Beatrice coaches didnt know what they had in him at the start of his junior year, maybe this year he will be "the man". Maybe he was new to the team, new to the community, maybe he started slow, maybe he switched positions maybe the staff had another guy they TRUSTED more, dont forget, trust has a lot to do with it too. Please dont take this post to be an attack on you or that I am trying to be a dick or know it all, I know sometimes its easy to read a post that way. I am just tossing out some stuff that I think. I do know what you are saying, you see a kid like this getting some pub and offers and look at his stats and think "he should be kicking ass" but also remember that football is such a team game, its usually not just one kid that makes the difference.
  17. Thank you! Great post! Every point you made is exactly what I was thinking. Like you said, if this kid was from another state then all of a suddent his "times" would mean something. But since he is in state those times are not fast. There is no denying that some other states might have better competition but you also cant deny that a timed 100 in Nebraska is the same time in any other state.
  18. You dont really question why a kid might have let up a bit after running 100 yards. Come on. I know we like to think that everyone gives 100% all the time but lets face it, none of us do. Like stated near the start of this thread, everytime a Nebraska kid starts to get some looks lots of people freak out. Playing both ways is not a bogus excuse for the guys being tired at the end of that LONG TD run, most high school teams put back ups on kick off teams if they can, so you probably had a fresh legged kid chasing down and giving it all, vs a kid who probably had not come off the field. I am just saying that college coaches dont start offering kids unless they think they are good. I have had D1 coaches in my coaches offices they know what they are looking for and what they are not looking for. Those guys see things differently than you and I do. I dont know if this kid will be great or not and I dont know if he will get an offer or not but he is on the radar for a reason.
  19. I think sometimes people forget that the kids on the other team are trying too! Also, I dont think he got ran down, I think he scored a TD on that kick return. Also, there is probably a pretty good chance that it was his 25th touch of the game on offense or special teams, not to mention he probably plays both ways. Maybe, just maybe he might have gotten a bit tired while running that kick back...and still scored.
  20. God, so a Nebraska kid will get an NU offer and all the old BCers will freak out. I can't wait.
  21. Hmmm...where was that at? At what point did I say how many offers they should send out? I said how many offers they DID send out last year because Rivals turned off the count (which was very useful so not really sure why they did that). That I confess. The other stuff is just you making assumptions and twisting things into something they aren't. I'm done though - I give up on this one. Before you know it you'll find something I said and turn it into me saying our coaches hate puppies, touch little boys or some other obscure stretch of the imagination. Good thinking, I give up too.
  22. KC, I think you even went as far as to offer an opinion on how the staff should recruit and how many offers they should send out. Anyway, its cool, I am sure neither of us really care about bickering in the end. I imagine we both think the staff is doing a very good job and only getting better.
  23. Read the post 'dude'. I never said I was getting tired of trusting the coaches. To sum it up since you probably won't take the time, or can't comprehend it anyway - I said I get tired of someone trying to argue their point with "trust the coaches". That in no way contributes to the discussion. I'm quite confident that every single person here trusts the coaches (at least about 99% of the time anyway) - so you don't need to tell me you trust the coaches...I already know that. It just get's old every time someone mentions anything negative about a recruit seeing the same "insightful" theory of "trust the coaches" offered up, which usually just kills the discussion anyway...and the discussion is the point of a board and forum. If it was just about facts and updates we'd have a news feed. Wow did you go internet tough guy on me? classic. Ummm, if you already know that we (yourself included) trust the coaches, then why are you not trusting the coaches? Don't get me wrong, I know what you are trying to say, you just dont know how to say it. Look, you finding fault with a recruit or something negative with a recruit means probably close to nothing because we can assume you have no experience with finding recruits or coaching. I could be wrong though. I have coached football for 10 years now and I still find it very very hard to predict how younger players will develop as they grow and mature. But I can read 100 posts on here with lots of "experts" telling me how a kid plays with his hips high, or doesnt "explode" off the ball." Its like everyone here is a college coach. Input is one thing and opinion is one thing but if you trust the staff like you claim then I would imagine your "issues" with a player would go away until a later date when/if they dont pan out. Now, since you just got smacked around a bit I am going to assume you will be bitter and jaded but instead of ruining this thread with that bitterness just PM if you still want to tell me something. If not, then lets just drop it. It is usually annoying when people consider their own opinion as "insightful" and "adding to the discussion" when it is really just a chance to spout off and pretend like they know something about a kids ability to play from a 3 minute video. Well I mean we are all Nebraska fans...the best, most knowledgeable fans in the country 2nd bolded part, didn't the Cleveland Browns just sign someone from Canada after watching a 3 minute youtube video. I watched it to and he's going to be starting day one That is a funny post!! I saw that thing about the browns too, signing that former hockey player who turned out to be like 6'7 350 pounds! I guess we really do have the most intelligent fans ever, i totally forgot that!

  25. Ummmm, you are getting tired with trusting the coaches when it comes to recruiting? Dude, why? We have no reason to beleive that they dont know what they are doing. Wait until/if they f#*k up, then dont trust them. Dont be so cynical man.
