  1. Everyone from fans who attended, to the players and coaches were nothing but complimentary. I think you guys got to see that we are progressing as a program as well. Hope its not the last meeting between our two schools. Go Red Wolves!
  2. I'd guess 500. Its a pretty good drive. I had tickets but can't make it due to a wedding. I already don't want to go to a wedding ever, especially on opening weekend.
  3. I'm not sure what I was doing in 2012 when when Arkansas State played in Lincoln, but I always admired your fan base and rooted for you guys when we weren't playing. (See my post history) A lot has changed in 5 years, for both teams. And then in a lot of ways, not so much. You may not know this but our OC from last season was demoted and Blake Anderson has taken over play calling duties. We also had a really strong (and physical) fall camp this year, rather than the flag football BS from last year. Expecting to at least give you guys a good game. (hopefully) Lastly, don't get too excited about the fact that we are replacing 4 OL. They were not known to be very physical players and were recruited for an entirely different style of offense. (Think more running QB spread vs Pocket, etc). It was a handicap for us now and reportedly this group has shown a lot of promise, though not tons of depth.
  4. Good luck to husker Nation today... probably the most decent fans of a BCS team I can remember us playing. Here's to 0 injuries, a good game, and the 2nd step to the rest of the season for both teams. P.S. What the hell is this thing ------>
  5. I don't think that is a bad prediction, but I will throw my two cents in. I think this entire game is going to be dependant on how well our passing game can get going early on. If it goes well, so will the running game, and we will score a lot of points and it will be close. If it doesn't, we are going to get blown out, and Helu will probably have the game of his life (for some reason playing ASU does that to people). I think it will be very close, or an absolute blowout. I don't see us sticking anywhere near the 21 point spread.
  6. The one thing I've noticed that separates FAU fan from ASU fan so far is respect. The FAU fans that have been hanging here for the last month or two have been gracious, friendly, complimentary and respectful of our team and our fans. All I see from ASU is "nobody respects us" and lumping every team from a bigger conference into one stereotype. Fortunately, we're not like every other fan base, no matter how you treat us. Your fans will return from Lincoln with good things to say about our fans, whether we win or you win. You'll be treated with more respect at our stadium than you've shown, whether you've earned it or not. I'd like to say it's been a pleasure to have gotten to know ASU fans. Some on your board were great. But far too many have been less than respectful. And I have no patience for that. Really? You mean respect like this: "Seriously its Ark St. and their from the Sun Belt... not trying to sound like a ass, but this game won't be close." "I respect your coach's body of work, however, I don't think ASU has a chance to keep the final score close." "Plain and simple.. ASU is the inferior team, no matter what they did against anyone last year." It's not all one sided? Please tell me what lack of respect you are referring to from ASU fans? Because we think we have a chance?
  7. It's hilarious reading the same comments from BCS fans year after year, and then when we keep it close it's all excuses. BTW, it's "They're... not their"
  8. This is an FAU team that gave up 50 to FIU at the end of last year too
  9. This is my understanding (but be warned - I don't gamble, so spreads are foreign to me). My guess is that people are reading stuff like ESPN's take that Nebraska gave up too many yards to FAU: "Nebraska and Arkansas State each posted opening-game blowouts. It's the Red Wolves, though, and not the Cornhuskers who feel much better about their debut. The No. 22 Cornhuskers try to open with consecutive wins for the fifth straight year Saturday when they face Arkansas State for the first time. Nebraska cruised to a 49-3 win over Florida Atlantic last week. Roy Helu Jr. rushed for three touchdowns and 152 yards as the Cornhuskers' offense finished with 490 yards. That wasn't the side of the ball in which Nebraska had problems. It gave up 358 yards to the Owls, and coach Bo Pelini called his defense "soft" on Tuesday." Reading that, you'd be hard pressed to realize we just blew out a 2008 bowl game winner by 46 points. If I was taking their word for it, I'd bet ASU, too. I hear ya I'm not saying its justified... even I don't feel comfortable taking ASU at 21, much less 24... I'm just pointing out that of the big teams we have played recently, we either won or lost by less than 21, with the exception of Alabama. It's easy to see how someone could look at this game and think based on recent history that ASU might keep it close, and I'll say this... If our passing game can find some success early, then I think our running game will too. The spread offense is dangerous if you get a team guessing. I think those of you who go to the game or watch it on tv will be surprised, even if it ends up being a blow out by the end of 4.
  10. Since the spread is -21, its on Nebraska to cover... not arkansas state. How would lowering the spread encourage more bets on ASU? The answer is, it wouldn't. The spread was lowered because there weren't enough people betting Nebraska would cover 24, so they lowered it to 21, hoping more people will take Nebraska. This means that there are more people out there who think Nebraska WON'T cover at 24 than WILL.
  11. First, you're making a mistake is using words like "No way" when discussing college football... Secondly, the line is possibly moving because Texas, Texas A&M, nor Tennessee covered a 21pt spread against many of the same players that are on their way to Lincoln.... Lastly, I hope you have bet a lot of money on this game, since you are so sure of yourself... it would be dumb for you to be right and not win any money.
  12. Exactly. That means that there are a TON of people betting on ASU. Why is that?? Does somebody know something that I don't know??? Are there "wise men" involved?? NO WAY Nebraska was not going to cover 24 let alone 21.
  13. I think its trying to get people to put more money on Nebraska, saying there is a more likely chance Nebraska will cover 21 than 24.
  14. Its true. I think if we stay competitive, make your starters play all/almost all of the game, no one gets injured, and we collect 1,000,000... yeah, I think thats a moral victory. What I don't want to happen is for us to get very close to winning like we did at Texas and have it affect the way we play later on.
  15. I like how of all the games we have played that "don't matter", Alabama is the exception. Nevermind the fact that Alabama has better athletes than Nebraska, but does anyone care to mention that Alabama had one 1 offensive TD in the entire first half?
  16. I think its because we play 1-2 big name teams every year and its always the same " I don't know anything about arky state, but I bet we win easy" responses. Then gameday gets here and the fans of whatever team we are playing is always shocked that their starters played all 4 quarters and that they couldn't shut our offense down. Do I think we will win? No. Do I think you will run all over us? Absolutely not based on our recent history against BCS teams, with the exception of Alabama - who did have trouble moving the ball against our Defense. JP Wilson was 15/28 for 157 yards and 1 INT. last 4 games: Texas A&M W 18-14 (2008) #2 Alabama L 35-0 (2008) #4 Texas L 21-13 (2007) Tennessee L 48-27 (2007)
  17. Whats up Huskers? Just going to try and provide a little insight since I know a lot of you are wondering about who Arkansas State is. First, if you run into a guy on OUR message board named Blackfoot3, just hit the "ignore" button. You'll thank me later. But football business........... We have a lot of experience all over the field, with quite a few NFL prospects and a few that could be taken pretty high up the board. First we have a SR QB (Corey Leonard - Davey Obrien finalist) and SR RB Reggie Arnold (Doak Walker watch list). Our RBs are pretty deep, and we have a ton of talent at WR - thought it has yet to be fully realized. Our linemen are pretty solid, but there isn't much depth. If our RB Reggie Arnold rushes for 1000 yards this season, he will be only the 8th RB in NCAA history to rush for 1000 yards 4 straight years. On defense, we have a pretty solid LB corp and a hard hitting CB named Daylan Walker. We also lost one of our safeties against MVSU, but the depth there is excellent. The D line is supposed to be very good this year, and most people have heard of Alex Carrington (6'6 -285 DE)... he is our best bet for a high draft pick. Overall the athleticism will surprise a lot of people, thought I still am not sold on our pass defense. One thing you will see if you look at our past, is that we usually play big teams well. We played Texas in Austin to within 1 score and needed the Big 12 refs to blow an onside call to seal that game. Last year we beat Texas A&M in College Station, and 2 years ago with many of the same primary players on offense we put up 27 on Tennessee at Neyland. I realize those games don't mean much, and as far as what to expect on Saturday? I think most of you will be a little surprised, though I don't think that means you won't win. Our defense should put up a pretty good fight, and I think our running game is going to put some surprising pressure on your defense. Reggie has averaged about 6 YPC for his career. You definately will get our best shot, and I think your starters will play most of the game. Then again, this is probably the most inconsistent team I have ever followed. We could literally beat a BCS team one week and lose to FIU the next. I'm hoping for a good game, no injuries, and some respect gained for our school from the state of NE.
