  1. wow we played great against the 65th ranked defense..Thats the bottom half of division one. Good job, Watts, you called a great gameplan against a horrible D, I dont think anyone could have ever done that! Especially since their defense is extremely slow and t mart can outrun them!
  2. Watson called the plays that led to 4 dropped touchdown passes on four seperate drives. I have never heard of a single OC that wasn't criticized. TO was criticized relentlessly for getting his ass kicked over and overto OU and routine ass kickings in bowl games. He continued to run option after option even when NU was behind by 2 touchdowns late in the 4th..........WHY? Malth....I like what you said here. oh you mean those dropped passes that were in 3RD AND LONG situations? Yes, Watson, good job you called a passing play where someone got open on 3RD AND LONG. I mean 3rd and long is always manageable. Lets face it, the dropped passes have always happened (you could blame the coaches for that considering its been a consistent problem.) If you look at the whole picture, you would notice that those passes happened because we were in 3rd and long so obviously he HAD to pass in that situation. Why didnt he do that in the beginning of the game, why didnt he do that on first down whent hey were cheating up to play the run (or second for that matter). Maybe watson needs to tell gilmore to work on catching more instead of telling gilmore to work on blocking more?
  3. That is how this apperantly works, if the team has success than Watson has nothing to do with it. However if there are struggles than they all fall on his shoulders. It is so obvious that if we were to fire wats than all of the problmes with fumbles, drops, and penalties will go away instantly. Can you not grasp the fact that hes had limited success against good defenses..Wow, he has been piling it up on mediocre and bad defenses. His scheme works when youre playing a slower defense and faster oline, but it will not work on a defense that is faster than you that is keyed into it, thats just common sense. How long have we had the fumbling problem? How long have we had the drops? You are saying a coach shouldnt get blamed for that? Yes, its on the players but its also the coaches fault for not PREPARIN them enough or maybe not working on it as hard in practice. If its one game, then fine but its been a CONSISTENT problem and obviously hasnt changed yet.
  4. Watson has horrible playcalling and doesnt change it up, he is very predicatble. Why run the same play when its going to get stuff? Oh so its ok for watson to run zone read on a fast defense that can stop it? Why not change it up?
  5. Ive been saying it all along..If watson is such a good OC..then please tell me when he called a good game against a top 25 defense..Oh you mean when our offense was rolling against teams who are 65 and worse in defense? You do realize that the best defense we played before this game was kansas state..and they ranked 65TH..Maybe if you really payed attenton to watson's playcalling, you would recognize he doesnt adjust to good defense..he continues to run his offense even though ts not working and he doesnt mix it up. But since hes such a good OC im sure you could mention a game in which he called a good game against a top 25 D..pleae inform me when we called a good gameplan against a good d...ill be waiting. I'll help you, but since I don't have past defensive statistics in front of me I'll just go with top 25 teams in general: '08 Virginia Tech '08 Texas Tech '08 Oklahoma (first play of the game withstanding) '09 Virginia Tech (we were running all over them, and if Lee could have put the ball anywhere NEAR our receivers they were wide open) '09 Missouri (see above, playcalling was pretty solid, execution was the worst I've seen, until the 4th quarter. Let's compromise and say this was a decent quarter and a half of good playcalling vs a top 25 team.) '09 Oklahoma (went into ultra conservative mode, but we won, I guess it's a toss-up) '09 Holiday Bowl vs. Arizona lol, 09 oklahoma? You mean, where our offense scored only 3 points the whole game (remember our d got in int and returned it inside the 5 yard line)..09, poor execution? Doesnt poor execution fall on the offensive coordinator and not preparing them? How many games have we had "poor execution" on offense? 09 holiday bowl, oh you mean when we WENT under center? They were also just at 25th ranked, so they were a top 25 D. Has watson ever called a gameplan like that this year? We ran under center that game. 09 VT, we ran the ball pretty well that game, so ill give you that game, they were 14th in total defense and 56th in rushing defense but thats still a stop 25 defense. 09 missouri wasnt a top 25 defense, they gave up 370 yards of total defense..they were 64TH in total defense..I said "top 25 defenses" not top 75. 08 oklahoma? Of course our yards are going to be inflated because we were down by so much and they got out to the big lead. So the stats could be skewed and they kicked our butss that year, we couldnt keep up with scoring in the first half. 08 Texas Tech defense wasnt ranked in the top 25, so you cant use that as an example. In fact, their defense was ranked 43rd on nov 19. Virgina tech was a 19th ranknked defense so that is a good example. So we did well against 08 virgina tech and did well rushing against the 09 virgina tech. So you have had two good examples
  6. Im a huge lions fan, have been since 1990. Suh has been double teamed the whole year this year and is still coming up with those stats. Vanden Bosch is still good but our secondary is HORRIBLE. Raiola sucks for us, he gets confused on zone blitzes and audibles wrong for the offensive line but oh well.
  7. ^^ || || Ain't that the truth? I understand all the frustration flying around, believe me. I had to sit there in the stands with everyone else and watch the Texas sideline erupt like starving men stumbling across a freezer full of filets when the clock clicked to zero to send us into the fourth quarter. I saw our guys shuffle down the sideline with all the enthusiasm of a leper walking to the gallows. Seems rather convenient and overly simplistic to pin the whole nightmare on Watson, imo. Will Watson lead us to the Promised Land as our OC? I'm not saying that. But it wasn't his game plan that lost the game for us on Saturday. It was our lack of execution. Again, that's just my opinion. and when has watson's offense executed against a good defense? Ill be waiting for an answer...His offenses have failed CONSISTENTLY against good defenses. Have you ever thought people are wanting him gone because OF THE PAST? He keeps doing it, its not like this is the only game his offense has failed. Of course, I have yet to hear from people how hes such a good coach..or why he doesnt attack a defense weakness..or when his offense has executed aganst a top 25 d.
  8. Possibly, alot of people really don't like Shawn Watsons predictability and gameplanning. I'm not saying I haven't had frustrations with Wats, I'm just saying we were dropping and fumbling the ball and if we weren't we win that game which means few calls for SW's head. We also probably move the ball better a little better, not completing passes means Texas continues to play the run. Not saying Wats doesn't have faults but the loss goes way beyond things he did or didn't do. I'm not even wild about some defensive decisions that were made. I'd have pulled Thenarse and put Compton in. I understand if watson only did this for ONE game but how long has he been doing this for? How long are we going to take this? The thing that frustrates me is that he needs to roll with HIS gamplan and cant adjust to the defenses weakness. As an OC, youre suppose to exploit their weakness and continue to watch film of that team to see what works. Watson didnt do that to texas, they have great ouside speed so the zone read from pistol and shotgun wont work against that defense. He didnt play to texas' weakness, he played to their strengths. That is not a sign of a good coordinator, if your gameplan wont work then you adjust and do different formations/plays, mix it up more and keep the defense honest. What would have happened if we kept the defense honest, like passing sometimes on first down? what would have happened if we ran slams and counters against the team? You can not tell me that our oline is worse than UCLA's because i dont see it. We should have worked on more plays in practe, ucla killed them with counters and slams under i formation and ace. Oklahoma did the same thing as well. Watson has proven again that he will no go away with what he wants to do even if its not going to work or work against that D. I want an OC that will study film and put in a few new wrinkles to exploit the defenses weakness. Thats too much to ask with watson as OC.
  9. YOu do realize that they dropped the ball on 3rd AND LONG situations, right? When has SW called a good gameplan on defense? So its our players fault that watson makes them focus more on blocking than catching in practice? The wrs arent used to game speed catching, because we never pass the ball. We always run on first and second, in fact, we didnt pass on first down until the fourth quarter. you want to be in 3rdn and 5 or less, yet we were consistently in 3rd and longs the whole game (and those are when the drops occured). If youre ok with him beating scrubs then whatever i guess. He never gets us in favorable situations on second or third down when playing good defenses. Thats 4 plays that wrs dropped the ball for good gains..what about the other 50 plays that occured? What happened there? Why dont we run counters or slams that texas have a tough time defending? Once again, watson will NEVER adjust/
  10. because every team i root for gets a lot of bad calls. For instance, the Detroit lions (i dont know why the zebras have to kick us when we are down), the orlando magic (yep, thats right, stern seems to have it in for us) and the huskers!
  11. Have you ever tried the new hot fudge poptarts? Yes I have, but I am still a sucker for the cinnamon roll tarts. Are the hot fudge pop tarts any good? They looked rather delicious.
  12. Man, how could i forget to mention them in the original post? Definately take them with you Watson!
  13. offer a head coaching job to watson. That way he can reunited with his boy, Cosgrove! Come on Minnesota, you can do it!
  14. Who cares if texas owns us? They have one NC in the past 40 years, they havent even close tasted to the success that we have had the past 40 years. So of course they will be so proud of "owning" us, when they realize we have had a lot more success in the past 40 years than they have. Plus, if things go our way, we still have a chance at the NC. Of course, I dont think that will happen becaus watson will always be a fail offensive coordinator but hey, you gotta think positive.
  15. guys lets think about it..who cares if texas owns us? they have ONE NC in the past 40 years..and we have 5. The only reason they talk trash about nebraska is because thats the only thing they have to hang their hat on. Lord knows they havent won enough NC in the past 40 years to do the talking. Ok, texas, you beat us. Good job, at least we have our 5 NC's to look at for some gratification, what do you guys have? Oh yeah, just one.
  16. I was on here for most of the night last night and didnt see any threats towards the players. I see a lot of people, including me, say that gilmore, cotton and watson needs to go. I dont see how hating on those coaches is a "bad attitude." I mean what have they have done? The wr's have dropped passes for 3 years now, if you know anything about football you would know that Watson cant adjust and hasnt done crap against a top 25 defense in the past 3 years, and our oline gets owned when playing a good dline and still has stupid penalties. Its not having a "bad attitude" at all, its just stating the obvious truth. Watson isnt a good OC and anyone who knows anything about football will tell you that in order to beat good defenses you have to adjust and mix it up..something watson cant do. You could also blame the coaches for the dropped passes considering gilmore and watson want the wrs to work on blocking in practice and not give them enough reps in earlier games to have them get used to the speed of the actual game and catching the ball in an actual game.
  17. Your right on. This offense works just fine, if you can catch some passes. I am afraid the fumbles are not going away though. Even with the fumbles Saturday, we win if we can just "catch the ball". GBR!!! So running the same play 30 times in the game was working fine? You do realize we didnt pass until later in the game right? You mean running it on every firt doewn is fine? You mean its ok for watson to not run plays that texas has troubles with (running dives, counters, slams from under center and pistol)is fine? You meann continue to run it on first and second down when texas is playing the run was working just fine? "Yeah, guys, its ok to make it second and long", you do realize, as a coach, you want to get to 3rd and 5 or shorter but watson never did that, did he? The passing game was working later on in the game (we threw ONE pass downfield in the first 3 quarters) so youre telling me it wouldnt have worked when they were cheating up to play the run the whole first half? Also, Watson has done soooo well with good defenses in the past, let me tell you. I didnt see ANY adjustments by watson except throwing the ball downfield when we had to, i.e., 3rd and long and when we were down by enough that we had to just fling the ball around. Our wrs arent used to catching the ball downfield because watson doesnt like doing that and wants them to practice blocking. Yep, its really shown that SW is such a good coach, keep doing well against the bad defenses SW and keep not adjusting to the good ones. Drops do happen to other teams, but they actually practice catching and the teams throw it more downfield than watson does so they are usedt to catching passes when it comes to actual game speed with someone in their footsteps
  18. Tell me how Watson adjusted? He ran the zone read 30 times this game. If he was such a good coordinator, he would have watched film of ucla and ou and noticed they were killing texas defense with counters, dives and slams under center and in pistol. But instead he ran a zone like read play every time which will get killed by nebraska defense. Oh btw, he started passing the ball when we were alfeady down by a lot and HAD to pass the ball..or he passed the ball when it was already 3rd and long. You do realize for the first 3 qtrs we ran it every first down..wow thats so hard to predict for a defensive coordinator and you do realize that we didnt even keep the defense honest by throwing downfield, which made the defense press up the whole game to play the zone read. He ddnt watch film and he didnt adjust on how to attack that defense. You counteract fast, aggressve defense by counters, also you cant try to run to the outside against a faster D, so you run a few dives and slams so that they wont play the outside. Watson thought he could do what he wanted to do and not adjust or practice what actually works against that D, you have to give him a lot of blame as well. Maybe if we threw it more, the wrs wouldnt have dropped those passes or if he practiced it more in practice then they wouldnt drop so many passes.
  19. I wasnt ever a supportive of him, I was giving him one more chance in a big game to prove me wrong. But, as always, he ddnt adjust and crapped down his pants. He has never been good against top 25 defenses, so I thought maybe if he had his personnel he liked that he could maybe make adjustments down the stretch....but that didnt happen
  21. Running the zone read 30 times when its getting stuffed every time is calling it pretty well? Oh you mean he called a good gameplan..when he had to throw the ball at the every end to play catch up? when does he call a good gameplan when its close? When has he ever beat anythng that resembled a top 25 defense? YOu mean, our amazing 100 yards in the first half was good playcalling? You are going to runt he zone read in the first half and beginning of 3rd quarter when they are clearly playing it? The passing game would have worked with how close texas was playing but when did he really throw the ball downfield? (when it was close that is). If youre a coach, dont you play to the defense weakness? Then if you studied film you would know that texas is a fast defense but has trouble when it comes to power running from the pistol and I formation..and what does he do? He doesnt run power plays from those formations at all. He instead runs zone read, which texas can defend with their speed. I guess its ok not to study film and works on an opponent..i guess its ok not to adjust from week to week, i guess that makes a good coach.
  22. lol, when has Watson called a good game against a good defense? Of course our wr's wont catch the ball as effectively when we never throw the dang ball. Look, i gave watson a pass a few times..but he keeps callign a horrible name against good defenses. What does that tell me? That he can not adjust, that he will NEVER go away from whats working. He called a good game? Yeah, when we were down by enough that we HAD to throw the ball. What did he do when the game was close? Zone read..zone read..zone read..he NEVER threw it downfield, he NEVER mxed it up and passed it on first down. he NEVER ran a running play under center, which is what texas has trouble defendng. He somehow ignore game film of the other team because hes so convinced that his offense will work on anyone, why cant people see that his offense will NEVER work on good defenses? I guess if youre ok with beating defenses who are rated below 30..then i guess we should not blame watson at all
  23. To be honest, I think its about the team we are playing. If we are playing a slower defense, then martinez may be the better option but if we are playing a pretty fast d then i think zac should start. He really impressed me with his arm today, he made some very accurate passes.
