  1. Beck will see lots and lots of playing time. Especially early on when our schedule is a bit easier. We need a backup. If Beck doesn't get enough playing time and Taylor gets knocked out for some reason then we don't go bowling. Callahan won't let that happen again.
  2. Yeah, that's the way I see it. If Beck is as good as they say we would expect to see him get almost as much playing time as Taylor.
  3. I'm a libertarian. It's funny I have swapped around political parties so much I've never considered myself a democrat or republican. Actually I'm a registered republican. Politically it doesn't make sense to register as a libertarian in a two party system. Third party voters tend to marginalize their own vote.
  4. Arm strength is secondary. All that we need at this point is a QB that can actually check off his receivers, and put the ball where it is needs to be. If we can accomplish that our offense will improve by leaps and bounds. Add in a little Lucky and Ross and we should be able to score on any defense in the Big 12.
  5. Hardy comes from Butler Community College, the same college Taylor came from. He was rated overall the number 9 JC player in the CC rankings. As a freshman. He still has three years left. http://journalstar.com/articles/2005/01/27...cb108585336.txt
  6. Yeah, and from what I've read Zac and Hardy have that 5 step drop down pat. This has got to help Zac knowing his number one receiver from Butler is out there on the wing. And Hardy has three years left.
  7. Actually I agree with everything you just said.
  8. Yeah and remember what Callahan said after the game. He said Taylor was doing things that the offense had been attempting for over a year.
  9. The team will be very young, but I expect them to do better than we did last season. I think our schedule favors us. And the overall talent level is better. True our JC transfers have not played a down of D1 football but they are definately a step up from high school players. What we will see this season is the team getting better and better with every game we play. That's something we haven't seen for a while.
  10. NU Fan in Denver, We did lose a lot of talent and experience but just what good does it do when the players are upset about losing their DC. So upset that it effects their performance on the field. How many times did our secondary give up last season? What good does all that experience do you if the talented and experienced players in the secondary aren't doing their jobs? In 1997 we gave up 184 yards in the air per game, and 49.3%. In 1998 we gave up 194 yards in the air per game, and 50.3%. In 1999 we gave up 182 yards in the air per game, and 43.7%. In 2000 we gave up 204 yards in the air per game, and 45.0%. In 2001 we gave up 185 yards in the air per game, and 44.9%. In 2002 we gave up 215 yards in the air per game, and 50.3%. In 2003 we gave up 178 yards in the air per game, and 50.7%. In 2004 we gave up 268 yards in the air per game, and 56.7%. That's almost one hundred yards more per game on average, and another 7 to 8 % of passes completed against us with similar numbers reflecting TD to interception ratios. Our secondary wasn't motivated. Bowman, Green, Leon Jackson, and Stuntz, while less experienced, should put us in the position where we actually perform better on the field than we did last season.
  11. It will be interesting to see what will happen when Zac has a quality backup like Beck pushing him.
  12. I can't see why people are trying to write off Callahan when he has had only one season at Nebraska. Callahan is changing our whole offensive scheme and it takes time and recruits to pull it off. BC is still playing with a whole lot of FS recruits. With the new QB's coming in this season we will see vast improvement. On defense look at the defensive line alone. Callahan recruited Ola, Cryer, Suh, Potter, Harvey, and Turner all coming in from last season's recruiting class. Two of them JC players. The only reason Callahan recruited so many DT's was he saw a need to bring in the players. We are in a rebuiling phase. And from where I'm sitting Callahan is far ahead of the curve. Very few new coaches in the NCAA would have been able to bring in the quality players that Callahan brought in for last years class. If BC keeps up this pace when USC comes here in 07 we'll probably beat them.
  13. We'll have a better defensive line this season and better defensive backs. It will make all the difference.
  14. Reporters are as bored as we are this time of year. Callahan will be fine. Look at the talent difference between this years team and last years. Recruiting makes all the difference. Just wait and see what hits the field by the time USC comes here in 07. I expect us to win that game.
  15. I realize Taylor played against our own defensive backups but he seems to be more of a pure passer than JD was. Taylor is accurate, has arm strength and seems to have a great grasp of the offense considering the short time he has been here. Taylor also put up great numbers durning the red-white game but he would have done even better if he played more than half a game. That was in April with a very limited offense and defense. By the time we play Maine, Zac will have another five months under his belt. JD on the other hand could be a very good QB. Just not in an offense that passes as much as the WCO does. JD will thrive in an offense that allows him to run more and pass less. Taylor will be fine. We have five home games to start the season. It is taylor made for a new QB. And we have much more WCO type offensive players on the team then we did last season. It Zac stumbles then Beck will step in. And I for one think Beck will be so good he will win the job outright by the end of the season. There is a world of difference between last season's offense and this years version. A good QB makes all the difference.
  16. White was a couple of years older than the average player drafted but he also had an ACL injury, a serious ankle injury earlier in his career, with arm strength and mechanics as weaknesses as well. http://www.draftshowcase.com/JasonWhite.htm Matts best chance to go to the NFL after such a devastating injury and two surgeries is to come back 100% and have a great year. I understand the longer Matt sits out the harder it will be for him to come back but reports coming out of campus all seem to indicate Matt is nowhere near ready. But the football season is young. Just because Matt may not be ready to return in August doesn't mean he won't be ready in September. Matt's a great competitor with a incredible drive to succeed.
  17. Matt was recruited in the class of 2002. He played in 2002, 2003 and 2004. So Matt could actually redshirt this next season, and if necessary, petition for a medical redshirt year in 2006, and return in 2007. So there is no hurry. Matt needs to take his time and make sure he does what's necessary to come back 100%. No matter how long it takes.
  18. I'd like to see us play the Ohio Bobcats!
  19. The only thing I'd tell Callahan is to keep up the good work. He knows far more about football than I ever will. I'm an armchair QB. Callahan coaches real ones. And he has taken them to the super bowl.
  20. Hey if it works fine, I'm glad Callahan is using it. As far as calling it the Oklahoma drill. Well we have to call it something. Maybe in a few years we will start hearing about the Nebraska drill. Or the Callahan Drill.
  21. Actually the river shifted years ago. Nebraska and Iowa fought over Carter Lake for years then the USSC stepped in and ruled it was still part of Iowa.
  22. Callahan had games at Oakland where he threw the ball 60 times a game and other games where he ran the ball 60 times a game. So it's very flexible. I don't know how many of our players are Callahan's (too lazy to figure it out) but we should be at the point where we can start moving the ball fairly easily.
  23. I just picked up a 10 month old beagle. She's great but if I leave her alone she will mess on the floor. A friend advised me to buy a crate for her. It was really good advice. She took it as her own as soon as I got it in the house. Any time I leave her alone I put her in it. She has never messed in it and alway holds it until I get home and put her in the back yard. The longest I left her in it was 9 hours. If you get a dog get a crate.
  24. I just saw it yesterday. It was by far the best of the bunch. I rarely see movies twice. I might go and see this one again.
  25. At least the Burger King employee didn't spit on your burger.
