Per Dan Patrick, "If conference can pass updated safety measures and procedures, Big Ten targeting Oct. 10 to start football season."

Heard Moos shot this rumor down.

The B1G is so all over the place when it comes to sources which makes me think that either people are pretending they know something or the communication is nil and so schools are guessing.

The NCAA/Confs are no more prepared for this, than they were the day they cancelled the NCAA tournament/Conf Tournaments.  You'd think 5 months would have allowed for a consensus plan.

Its seems like a lot of groups have gone with the "I hope everything works itself out" strategy....

That has proven to not be great.

Sadly, I feel like plenty of states and the Fed have taken this route--- lets just hope people stop caring so we can go back to normal or a miracle vaccine solves everything.

I can’t fault MLB for trying. But when entire teams go down it makes the season meaningless. Even when the team sucks, like Miami.

Pretty good template for what CFB will through. Only it will be more difficult to herd 100 football players than a mlb roster.

It just seems like MLB had no plan in place for when this happens... pretty obvious it was going to happen without a true bubble.

Marlins are sitting at 3 games played compared to some teams that are at 9 games played.

This will happen again to other teams and MLB just sort of has to sit and wait?

I thought it might be a good opportunity for cusp guys. Except for the very exceptional (trout), it’s a thin line between high double A and an everyday roster guy in the league. Maybe not so much for pitchers, but for position players it is.

I know people in the Mets organization. Agent is trying to salvage Cespedes reputation and career options by saying it’s Covid. The best thing that could happen to his career is that he actually tests positive.

    he’s a team cancer.

Even if it was Covid related, the way he(Yoenis) handled it shows a lot.

I think some of the bottom dwellers should use this to give their prospects a chance since they cant get time in MILB with it being cancelled. Just dont know how baseball will look in September with teams out of it and concerns on health. Will suck for teams fighting for a Playoff spot that the competition is playing a team tanking.

Nah. Hates the Mets. Used it as an opportunity. Dude just didn’t show up

Seems to be the thoughts of many. He was striking out at an alarming rate. Opts out and might try to hope he can get a job next season.

Will be interesting to see if players on garbage teams start to opt out at higher rates as the season goes on. 8-20 team might really need to rely on taxi squad players.

Yep.  I think it'd be tough as I really don't think they're suppose to leave campus right now and even if they did, there's just not much going on.  Probably isn't a whole lot of fun right now.  And let's face it, a lot of kids just don't have the same mindset now days.  Many aren't that mentally tough.  And they know they know they can pretty much transfer out and get a waiver so we just have to accept the fact that this is going to happen much more frequently.

I disagree with this. We are going through some of the most traumatic times in US history with a pandemic, civil unrest and so much more.

We dont know what is happening with Jaiden behind the scenes or anyone else.

Mental health is tough and especially tough when someone has chemical imbalance(not saying Jaiden does) to be able to handle all these things happening.

For people who are able to approach things logically because their mental state is clear to try and wrap their heads around someone who doesnt have that is unfair.

Toughen up and push your feelings down isnt healthy.

For sure...and think about it.  It isn't like it just hit him at 2am...the kid was probably hating life for the last month.

Was he an early enrollee?  I think some of those kids feel left out, they are not really a part of their own class because those guys are not there yet and they are not part of the other classes.

Covid makes things even more difficult. Not having class or anyone on campus, only having football.... Going from being a top dog to being low man....

Normally they have resources/counseling for the kids but one thing I wonder is how that continues during covid.

Spielman mentioned he struggled with support.

If I am Frost and Co, I am starting to take notice that we need to make sure we have SR teammates or staff checking in on these kids as they cope with other things.

Yeah, that is probably a badass case of homesickness.

So easy to forget these kids are 18.

I went from MN to Lincoln and it took me 2 months to get the home sick feeling. Lasted a week and then I was very happy.

I think its hard given the current circumstances. Probably feel even more isolated.

I hope Jaiden finds what he is looking for.

JD lived in Minneapolis area where winter is real.  Neb would have been easy by comparison. It was not weather.

He choose to go to school in Texas, so what is to say it wasnt the weather?

Also in MN he had family/support system which he claims he didnt have in NE.

I have lived in both places and seasonal depression is real in both.

Whatever the reasoning was, I hope JD finds a great place to flourish at TCU and most importantly finds happiness.

Oh believe me, I know. Living in MN and having to hear the crap it crazy. The true fans are pretty good about it, but the fans that are just hopping on the last two years are unreal. Hope the Huskers can get back to form and put them back in their place!

My favorite way to describe a gopher fan is this:

You only find out they are fans if the gophers win...

I could sit at my cube and hear nothing all week. When the Huskers won, I heard nothing on Monday.

If the Huskers lost to the Gophers, suddenly I would have multiple people over to talk crap.

You are not allowed to talk crap if I dont even know you are a Gopher fan in advance.

Most Gopher fans are beat down and therefore are fine, but a few of them are box score watchers. Gophers fan base is one of the least passionate ones I know. They have pockets but nothing compared to Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska.

The fans showed up at the end last year, but Fleck will leave for a more passionate base.

I wouldn't even say they are better 'now'. They were better last year, we were better the year before, this year who knows.

Depends on how much we grow. The Gophers were not great the first 3 games but they survived which allowed them to build off that.

I dont like admitting it, but up to this point I think Fleck is a better coach than Frost. Dont get me wrong, I cant stand Fleck and I think Frost will turn it around but I think the gophers are still ahead of us.

I also think Fleck will leave if a big job calls. I dont think Frost will.

Did Nebraska block him from transferring within the BIG? This guy seems to think so...MN homer and has other not so great things to say about Frost. Goofs have one good season and they are now the best...

    https://www.minnesotasportsfan.com/jd-spielman-transfers-to-tcu-after-nebraska-all-but-blocks-move-inside-big-ten/

Gopher fans are a unique bunch. Most are fine and dont take it too seriously. They have lived in so many other teams shadows that when they get a little bit of success they seem to let it go to their head.

The shots at Frost for blocking the transfer seem silly especially when some up here who have connections to the Gophers(Ron Johnson) have been openly recruiting JD for over a year...

Gophers are a good team but I find this assumption that they will destroy the Huskers for years to come as laughable. They are the better team now but things can change.

People from the Deep South cannot make fun of the Midwest. It’s third world country down there. I’ve driven through Scooba (where last chance U started) & good lord. You couldn’t pay me to live in Memphis, Mobile, or Birmingham.

this is saying a lot. I went to college in Pittsburg, KS.

    Pittsburg is in Pennsylvania....

I'm pretty sure it was Rutgers that has said they will have no on campus events this fall.

Since when did we consider Rutgers a Power 5 team?

Because if teams begin to cancel their seasons, it will be a trickle effect and there will not be any season.

I dont agree. The teams that will cancel arent going to be from the Power 5.

I don't think that would benefit us.

It would potentially benefit a lot of teams if players who are on a team that has cancelled their season are allowed to transfer without sitting out.

Not sure how this would hurt us if it was only allowing kids to transfer(without sitting out a year) who had their season cancelled?
