  1. my friends and I were all talking about what we think the spread would be. the lowest that any of us said was NU -10.5. most of us agreed on -14.5. if i were a betting man, i would be all over this one. my prediction: NU 34 UW 13
  2. So you watch this game and combine it with what the team would do if you were the coach, and we go undefeated. I'll be for making you coach and skipping the games. Seriously, we saw the staff at least try a new QB and from that we can figure that they do not believe Lee can get it done. That's about all we know from that game. Any of our QBs would likely had great days against WKU if playing the entire game. What I am certain disturbs the staff is the inaccuracy of his passing. In Big 12 play there would have been some picks. I doubt he runs free against Big 12 foes with anything like the success against wku. So they will work like heck to get him a passing game that fits his ability and try to increase his throwing ability. The latter is not easy to do and unlikely to improve greatly in a few weeks, or good qbs would be everywhere. T Mart reminds me of the QB that Illiniois started in that game against Misery on Sat. His elusiveness and strength) as a runner allowed him to get good yardage and hit short passes. I really thought they behind that frosh with good wheels and an average arm were going to beat misery badly. The second half they put a shadow on him and shut him mown to almost no yardage and I think he threw three or four picks. in our offense, the passing will have to be very accurate with good reads to keep our running game going. We are not Ga. Tech or another true option offense...though with our personnel I wish we were this year and even more so if Green commits. It's not Watson's bag though. Running a balanced attack with T-Mart against good defenses may be difficult. I think right now the optimist would say we have options. The realist would say that the staff; is not happy with there choices and trying to come up with who will give the offense the best chance. My guess is that if Starling and Carnes would have been here one of them would be starting. Your idea that we are better off blitzing a lot to make up for inferior line play this year, leaves me cold. The rush of the front four was what made our D last year. I hope the line improves and Crick becomes Suh like, which I doubt. Our DBs will be hard pressed against better passing teams if we rely on blitzing. Anyway the season is here and we are undefeated. I don't see staying that way nearly as likely as you do. Hope you are right. When was I 'coaching'? You don't think the defense will have to use new wrinkles this year? Our d-line won't put as much pressure on the QB as they did last year and Bo has even hinted at the fact that we'll be blitzing more this year. As for t-mart, let me make myself clear. He won't be a dominant QB in the Big XII. I didn't say that he would be. I said his passing can't be worse than Lee's was last year (whether it was due to the injury or not), and he's clearly a better runner. All I said is that our 100-someth ranked offense last year should at least be top 50 this year. Or even if they are only 75th, its still better than last year. We had to rely on our defense and kicker last year to pull out wins and that won't be nearly as much the case this year.
  3. Of course if he produces we can give him a break for being cocky. but the OP is worried that his over-confidence may lead to him thinking he's invincible and once he throws that first pick or gives away his first fumble, things can spiral down hill fast with a cocky attitude.
  4. the defense last year gave up 350 yards in game one to FAU. anyone thinking the defense will suck this year is wrong. we're gonna do more blitzing than last year, and we're obviously not going to show Washington our blitzes against a cupcake opponent. the defense will give up some more yards and maybe some more points than last year, but we will create more turnovers with a combination of tricky blitzes and sticky cornerbacks. as for the offense, here's how i think of it. yes, Martinez will be shaky throwing the ball. but was that not the case for Lee all of last year? clearly t-marts running abilities will make the offense WAY better than it was last year. if teams blitz and Martinez escapes out of the pocket, watch out. automatic 15 yards. if teams don't blitz, he'll have plenty of time to find a receiver from our MUCH improved receiving corps. Defense = some drop off from last year, but more turnovers which will lead to more points. dont forget how crazy-dominant our defense was last year. destroying Colt McCoy? basically holding Arizona to under 100 yards of offense? it was unreal. a slight drop off and we still have a top 5 defense. Offense = maybe still just an average CFB offense, but after last year.. i'd die for an average offense. Combine these factors with a decently-favorable schedule, and going undefeated is VERY possible.
  5. Anyone know where I can find some?
  6. Good point BUT... doubt LaTrav is third string. IMO they are placed in order of how much PT they've had. dunno if that was planned but it is their order. Lee (12 starts), Green (2 starts), LaTrav (mop up), T Mart (scout team), Carnes (true frosh)
  7. While I do agree that Bama dominated the game, I can't say the game was never in doubt. I was cheering for Bama hardcore and I know when Texas got the ball back down three, I was getting worried. I didn't think Gilbert would lead them down the field for the win, but I didn't think Tyrod would hit an 80 yard pass either (too soon?). It would be fair to say the game was in doubt at that moment. But yes, I will agree that Bama dominated and let off the pedal.
  8. Here's Zac Lee's problem. He still plays like a High School quarterback. In HS, what are QBs taught to do? Throw the ball to the open receiver. There's always going to be someone open, you just have to find him and hit him. Zac can do that. He needs to develop into a collegiate QB by seeing which receivers WILL BE open by the time the ball gets there, not to mention making an accurate throw. Here's to hoping his time spent mending his shoulder was in the video room.
  9. I posted that, and I disagree vehemently with your assessment. That game was never in question, even when Texas scored first. Alabama's D was every bit as stout as Nebraska's - they just had an offense that could move the ball. All due respect to Texas' defense, which was pretty good, Texas was not legitimately in that game after the first quarter. It's sad that McCoy got hurt so we'll never know, but everything about that game was domination by Alabama. The final score and yardage don't reflect it, maybe, but again - the outcome of that game was not in doubt. Are you serious? Texas had the ball down three with 3 minutes left! Gilbert took the offense down a few times for scores. One more drive, or even more likely, a lucky deep ball would have won the game. Instead just as the announcer said "This Texas O-Line that gave up 9 sacks to Suh and Nebraska hasn't given up a sack all game", Bama gets a sack and a fumble recover, game over. In was in great question at the end.
  10. Well to be fair, it is a Nebraska-based station. Of course some hate is going to be spit toward a team that literally falsely blames players for spitting into their face. Sorry, but Chase Daniel is the biggest d-bag to ever put on a football uniform. And as much as a respect you, which I really do, your fanbase isn't one to have much pride in.
  11. Seemed like the better team? Remember OU lost head to head to Texas on a neutral field? OU was a great team that year, but Texas proved on the field it was better. and about the :01, it was done for you guys in the same situation in 94. Things like that have a way of going around, sometimes your team is the one catching the break, next time your team has the breaks going against you. In both the 94 Orange Bowl and the 09 CCG it was the correct call. I don't get why there was (and I guess *is*) so much whining, crying, tacky looking banners flying over stadiums about the 2008 scenario. Didn't Texas lose to Texas Tech that season? Wasn't there a 3-way tie? Doesn't Texas Tech also have the right to whine/cry/fly a tacky banner as much as Texas? (Rhetorical questions, no need to answer them) Rules are rules. If Texas wanted to win the division, they shouldn't have lost to Texas Tech. I know rhetorical questions, but I'll answer anyway. Yes we lost to Tech and it was a 3 way tie and I'm not making the argument that Texas should have been in the CCG. ( I wasn't a fan of any of the banners flying but banners were flown by Tech and OU fans as well.) The question was that OU seemed to be a better team, my point was Texas was better than OU in 2008 and proved it on the field. See but you are wrong about that. If you say Texas is better than Oklahoma because they beat them, then Texas Tech is better than Texas, so why wouldn't Texas Tech have the right to go to the CCG? Because Oklahoma beat them, so Oklahoma should have the right to go the the CCG. But Texas beat them... It's a never ending circle. And why was this circle created? Because of Pre-season rankings. What exactly are pre-season rankings? They are people's PREDICTIONS of how good a team will be during the season. It has nothing to do with how they will perform, but how they are PREDICTED to perform. So since Texas Tech was PREDICTED to be worse than both Oklahoma and Texas, although on the field during the season they were ACTUALLY equal to the two, they get automatically snubbed out of the CCG conversation. Texas Tech has the most to whine about. So the reason Texas feels like they got screwed out of the CCG isn't because they thought were the best team in the South, it's because they felt like they were the better team between them and Oklahoma. Unfortunately, due to peoples' pre-season PREDICTIONS (and i emphasize predictions), Texas Tech was left out of the conversation, making Texas feel like they were snubbed. In the end, the right team made it to the CCG and the MNC. Sadly, many people remember the final score of the MNC vs Florida rather than the game itself. It was a close game and at the end Florida pulled away. And to whoever posted that Texas got killed by Alabama, they did not. In fact, I think it's fair to say they would have won the game had Colt McCoy been on the field. As much as I hate Texas, I have respect for Colt and even a little for Mack Brown. We just target them because they are the leaders of a team with a bandwagon fan base. Let the countdown to October 16th continue: 80 days. GBR!
  12. He threw a couple good deep balls, but he looked terrible over the middle.
  13. Please don't ever associate Travis Justice with Husker football. I don't think anyone in this state likes that douche unless your a Creighton basketball fan. He sucks royally so please don't judge us based on him. Look at 1620 the Zone with Kevin Kugler and Mike'l Severe. They are being nominated for the best sports talk show in the nation. They are in the top 5 right now I think.
  14. wasnt the kansas game when frantz hardy saved the day with two deep catches and we won in overtime?
  15. Sorry about not posting it in the games forum. And yeah I understand they mess up alot, but come on at least make our defense rated higher than our offense. And yes, I have already pre-ordered the game too. Couldn't live without it. Anyone else agree that the gameplay of NCAA is way better than Madden? I can't stand playing Madden.
  16. There are three types of fans the NBA. Kobe fans. LeBron fans. Neither. I went from LeBron to neither after last night. It's not necessarily the way he did it. He had no intentions of putting Cleveland in the dust. He got caught up in the hype. The guy doesn't even have a college education and he's still only 25. Give him a break. He will regret "The Decision" very soon, and will mature from it. But what he'll never get over is the fact he signed with the Heat. I will never root for this guy anymore, because I never want to hear people say he's the greatest to ever play. I was always rooting for him to surpass Jordan, but he won't have that opportunity anymore. It's not even possible for him. I don't care if he wins championships until he retires, if Dwyane Wade is by his side, they don't count in my mind. Sure you could say he's mature and learned to lessen is ego by playing with Wade, but I'll never give him a chance to earn the 'King' title anymore. He pussied out. He was scared if he went somewhere else he'd end up with no rings. That's not how a King should think. He should have gone to New York or Chicago. His teammates would be better than at Cleveland, yet he'd still be the clear 'ruler of the land', unlike in Miami.
  17. We are ranked 9th in the video game. Respectable. What's hilarious is our offense in an A- and our defense is a B+. How can a video game butcher that so badly? They had to notice we were the best defense or at least top 5 in the country last year. How is our defense not an A? That's just hilarious that the offense is ranked higher than the defense.
  18. this would be different and could be very interesting. but how would this mini play off go? 1vs4,2vs3 on friday night then the winners on saturday night? Obviously you can't play football games two nights in a row. For this to happen I would think you'd have to cut a game from the regular season. But then the teams that don't make the 'playoff' would be stuck playing 11 games per year rather than 12, which would be weird. I don't see how it could work other than just having to play 14 games, not including the bowl.
  19. From the Big Ten Blog write on ESPN. "Division alignment: The Big Ten also must figure out divisions in the coming months. Delany listed three main criteria for sorting them out: competitive fairness, maintenance of rivalries and geography. He stressed that competitive fairness is the No. 1 priority, which I believe to be the correct approach. Geography shouldn't determine divisions. You don't want another Big 12 South scenario. " Not saying they will split OSU/UM but what other options? Sending PSU to the "west" doesn't make sense but perhaps that is the only option. Personally I don't see why they can't be in separate divisions and still play yearly. If its 12 or 16 teams you still only play 5 or 7 division games which leaves at least 2 (as many as 5) out of division conference games where UM and OSU can still play. That would completely screw up the scheduling for the entire conference. What if Nebraska played Oklahoma every year? Then we'd only be able to play 2 South games each year (plus OU). that would have butchered the Big XII schedule.
  20. no chance OSU and Michigan are split up. also unlikely Michigan and Michigan State are split up. Northwestern is further west than Indiana, so that wouldn't make much sense either. anyways i like the idea of 4 groups of 4 teams in the Big Ten. then there is a 4 team 'miniature playoff' for the conference title.
  21. ESPN's bottom line says something along the lines of... If Texas A&M doesn't accept the Pac-10 offer, the Pac-10 is more likely to offer Utah than Kansas.
  22. If it's East and West, the power is all in the East. Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana, Purdue would be way better than Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Northwestern. I don't want to be stuck in a Big XII North situation again with a Big Ten West. I don't think a North/South is a good idea geographically for the Big Ten. Any possibility they could make the divisions randomly? Is that what the ACC does with the Coastal and Atlantic? This is pending the fact that they split it up into divisions anyways. And obviously assuming more teams aren't added, which I think think it will go to 16.
  23. so now the question is.. does the move start for the 2011-2012 season? or 2012-2013? the sooner the better IMO. i want to watch us in the Big Ten for 2 years in college rather than just one.
  24. Can you say Frantz Hardy? This guy reminds me so much of Frantz. Hopefully he'll pan out better though... Personally I really really hope we get this guy, especially after I found out he's a 3 for 3.
