This article indicates we are clearly among his favorite schools. That doesn’t necessarily mean we would beat Iowa for him, but as of right now we are in the running. However, there is no mention of Wisconsin in this article. While it’s expected that we will lose some Iowa prospects to IA, I hate losing recruiting battles to Wisconsin. https://www.omaha.com/sports/college/huskers/plus/huskers-went-years-without-success-recruiting-iowa-but-that-s/article_5ad33174-6803-54ad-af45-547b1db184d3.html?utm_source=WhatCountsEmail&utm_medium=NEWS - Big Red Today HeadlinesActive Big Red Today&utm_campaign=_Big Red Today - Daily headlines

Now that someone has written an article about it maybe @Thanks_Tom RR will believe it. Only content providers on the internet or the OWH know what they're talking about you know?

247 versus rivals is pretty similar to the MSU and Michigan rivalry actually. Michigan boats it’s excellent past similar to rivals (as one of the original recruiting services). This while using a severely outdated board with mediocre ranking systems. Meanwhile 247 has better writers, a better board, and better rankings since its invention but rivals refuses to except they are #2.

you can see which board I often venture :D

I dont read 24/7, but the common opinion is that they have the better natl writers and rivals has the much more active message board.

  3. What a difference 72 hours can make. As of 230 Friday Walters was moving on and Mickey Joseph was ready to be here. Beckton was also gone.

Now, it doesn't appear Walters is going anywhere nor is Beckton.

Where the Helfrich as an analyst rumors got started I have no idea and I have heard nothing that leads me to believe hes coming here in that capacity. I can tell you he was approached when it looked very much like Walters was leaving.

I do know not quite as a fact, but very close to it that Matt Lubick has been offered a job on staff. It would make sense that hes the new analyst if he wants to be as hes been out of football for the year.

You remember how and why we lost to Purdue?

You quote all those fancy plays we ran against OSU and Wisconsin.  Remind me who won these games?  How did they finish us off?  Answer:  power running, grinding out the first downs and the clock.

Since we are going down memory lane, do you remember how the Northwestern could have been won, if we could Have just ground out a first down on third and short.

That being said, I think Frost at times is a good play caller...at time he is too fancy.

I think what we would all like to see out of Scotty is the ability not to have to get cute in short yardage situations and be able to control a clock.

What is power? You've yet to definite it as the way you've described it essentially makes it intangible.

So your "facts" were that Memphis put up a lot of yards.....THEY LOST.  I could care less about how many yards we put up if we lose.....IIRC, when we lost to Wisky in 2018 we were the only school besides OSU to put up that many yards.  And we lost.

To the soul searching, Frost and his scheme is now 9-15 in 2 seasons.  That's a fact.  To my post that included "soul searching it also included "I am still not sold on our scheme.  Now if we played it with extreme physicality, it might look like a different team.  Power IMHO, always beats finesse".. He does need to examine every facet of what he and the staff are doing.  Poor play calling, time mismanagement, etc....are all on the staff.  A great staff continually evaluates what they are doing.....Remember when TO switched base D.  Started to recruit speed?  Soul searching (or whatever you want to call it) to change what wasn't working and becoming great. You don't think Saban and Dabo don't do "soul searching" every season.  Dabo went from a dual threat QB to Trevor Lawrence.  Went away from Bryant "as Trevor gave us the best chance to win".....That was after Bryant led Clemson to the NC game.  That's soul searching.......Saban benching Hurts for Tua was a soul searching half time moment......

"We do what we think we can do to win with our personnel and weather we have.  Philosophically, all we're doing is looking at what it takes to win"-Tom Osborne

We all want the same thing.  For FROST and NU to succeed.

You keep using buzz words like "power" and "finesse." I'm anxiously awaiting your definition of both and how they're different and how they can be recognized on the field.

Bringing in better players will help, but it automatically does not equate directly to wins......Texas, Notre Dame, Michigan should be examples of this.  Developing players, playing to your team’s strengths, learning to coach and adjust in games..just as important.

There were quite a few offensive adjustments made this year. Pick a game and I'll help.

The point being how would a high octane O do against a traditional B1G defense.  They lost.  Penn St is a physical bruising team.  That's my point.  How did an established offense similar to Frost's do against a traditional B1G.  They lost.  The offense did not score more than Penn St.  So if Frost is betting on scoring one more point than the other guy, I am in the camp that thinks that is not a great strategy for the B1G......

I am not a fan of a finesse O.  I am not a fan of one predicated on needing chunk plays to win.  Are they great?  Absolutely, but if you don't get them it is very hard to win when your O is not built with the ability to get tough yards.  MAYBE with the recruitment of better guys the O really shines.  Much like it did in 2018....That is my hope.

What makes our offense "finesse" and someone else's "power?" I'll hang up and listen.

Ideally, we stop trying to be “cute” and trick the other team and learn to establish our will on the other team.  That, is play calling and coaching.  Up to this point, I have not been impressed with either as they fail to realize they are playing B1G competition and need to step the game up.

People all up in arms about the schedule or how it cycles makes me lol to myself and know they are Kool Aid drinkers.  I mean, did the Huskers of old care or did they just go and do their thing and told the other team to try and stop them?  That is how lost we are currently.  When the other team knows exactly what we will do and easily schemes against it tells you just how green/poor our staff is.

If you watched the Wisconsin game and truly know what you're looking at, our offense did whatever we so chose to Jim Leonard's defense. He had no clue what to call and was guessing the full game.

When guys like Omar Manning and Zavier Betts gets here you'll see how much of a difference having the threat of a vertical passing game will help.

Funny thing is with clearly inferior talent we put the best rushing performance of the year on a top 5 rushing defense and that included a team that should probably be playing tonight.

    Maybe the scheme does work?

This is where I am at.  Was really watching that Memphis game to see how their established system would do against a "traditional" B1G team in Penn St......I am hoping that Frost and Co do some soul searching on what they really think will be successful at NU.....I am still not sold on our scheme.  Now if we played it with extreme physicality, it might look like a different team.  Power IMHO, always beats finesse.....

    A lot to unpack here:

    1) Our scheme has worked at all levels of football and in 3 regions of the country. Were you saying this at the end of 2018?

    2) "Power" is how you block a play. Its not how you line up. With the mixture gap and duo schemes to go along with our bread and butter outside and inside zone plays there's plenty of "power" here.

Most coaches know you need to have some sort of power run game to be successful.

Most coaches are aware of what "power" actually is

Maybe I'm a homer but I don't think that's out of the question(Having 5 of those at home helps).  There is not a team in those 7 games that is far better than us.  Winning those first 3 will be crucial, if we do I think the confidence could be huge going into that Cincinnati game at home.  Minnesota got better as the season went on and I think that had to do with them believing in themselves, which I think is a critical problem for this Nebraska team right now.  Overcome that and you never know what happens next year.

Nobody remembers that Minnesota damn near lost to 2 FCS and a G5 team in their first 3 last year. We get a chance to work out issues in the first 3 weeks against 3 teams we should be able to step onto the field and be better than until weve got to play a pretty good Cincinnati team.

This year is very vital in taking a step forward in winning football games. Get to 7 games and you can tell kids look at the progress and much more to come soon. If you get to 5 wins again your 3 year narrative will begin to fade.

If we can find a way to win the first 7 games it'll really help recruiting

Apparently you misread what I wrote.  He can have his opinion, but using his place of employment to bolster his viewpoint and sway opinion would turn me off and I'd be against his hiring.

Remove Brown's name and insert Saban's. Still hold the same opinion?

It was pretty obvious from comments by both Moos and Frost that Brown had to STFU about certain things to stay employed with the program. If he were to go back to coaching here. it would be controversial obviously but I don't see him stirring-up further controversy.

I'm highly doubting more than about 4-5 people would really care.

I would. Don't need him, don't want him in that case. Not the victory but the action.

I dont recall the whole situation. Chances are one side believes what he did is basically genocide and the other side believes what he did was essentially the same as Christ baptizing John the Baptist. The answer is probably in the middle.

Supporting people and asking for them to be discriminated against are two very different things.  If memory serves, Brown went to a city council meeting, gave One Memorial Stadium Drive as his address and backed a law allowing for landlords to evict people solely based on their sexual preferences.  Brown can believe what he wants, but giving Memorial Stadium's address as his own crossed the line in my opinion.

If Nick Saban backed the same law and wanted to be our coach would you have this opinion? #doubtful
