  1. I have no idea why all this Iowa stuff keeps popping up. I am guessing because a large portion of Nebraska's population is sitting next to them, and some Nebraskans work in Iowa, and vice versa and they are idjets or something. I guess if you don't live near an Iowa fan it's just standard knowledge that the U of Iowa is flat out boring and does nothing for.... anything. Most Husker fans could care less about them, they do nothing for recruiting, and the national media isn't going to rip their pants off and set their hair on fire screaming "OMG Nebraska vs Iowa Showdown for the Ages...". I'd like what some folks on here are saying more along the lines of UCLA, even Fresno State. But where I would really like to see us playing a game here and there would be down in Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Florida etc. We've had next to no consistent exposure there for a long time. We're always playing in Texas and it doesn't seem to be sinking in down there with recruiting. Let's try California, Florida, SEC country, or even Ohio/Pennsylvania/New Jersey'ish. NU playing Georgia here and there would be kinda nice. And if we really want to get the creative juices flowing... let's try to schedule one of the SEC teams in late November, here and there. Maybe we could bump the stupid Colorado game up to our 2nd or 3rd game and hope for some snow in Nov.
  2. I've heard Bo say several times that the D overall is going to be "way" better than the D was this year. "Ten times better" or something like that. I don't understand that (dang fractions...). It's hard to believe. I think the fans have taken that and somehow decided it's about Crick being better than Suh. I don't think that's in the equation at all. You simply don't replace Suh. But I'm betting the base D line scheme is going to change. This year our D line was kind of weird. Allen and Turner didn't really do a lot of getting to the qb, they just man'd up on an O linemen and bulled their way forward slowly. They were not your traditional blitz yer guts out speed rush end types. But they were pretty strong, played smart with the rest of the line, and boxed the qb in. I guess just a contain type of scheme, while our crazy insane DT Suh, and our pretty dang good DT Crick plowed forward and usually drove everything back if the qb didn't ditch the ball the O was severely disrupted. Combine that with a pretty good coverage scheme and we get what we saw this year. Our run defense was very good with basically 4 DT's up front. I'm thinking 2010 we're going to see a more traditional D front with the two bull DT's piling things up center and Allen and the three new DE's (who are supposed to be dang speedy) are going to blitz off the end and provide pressure like you normally see a D line performing. With DE's getting the lion's share of the sacks and TFL's. That's how I'm reading it anyhow.
  3. Nesbitt=average, at best. I know you guys like him, but he is not a good option qb. Receivers in the blocking game have it down it seems. Ballcarriers are solid. O-line is crap, and QB looks like a compromise. I think a guy like Nesbitt would be better suited to a Tyrod Taylor type role, but his arm is frightening. His pitches are even scary. I'll accept a lot of comments about GT, but Nesbitt is really not average. He is the heart and soul leader of the team. Maybe he doesn't throw that well (actually, he DOESN'T throw well), but take him off the team and we have 2-3 more losses. He single handedly won the Florida State game and was the determining factor in the Wake Forest game. Finding an athlete like him may not be hard, but he is a fullback as a quarterback and a great leader. Tebow like in his leadership but without the SECSPN hype ... I believe he also received first team all-ACC honors. I don't think you have watched GT enough if you think Nesbitt is average. I think you missed my point. Im not questioning his leadership, heart, or any of that. Im simply talking about his ability to run the option. I watched GTech every chance i got this year, just like i watched Navy...I love watching option football. Its what i ran in high school. Its what Nebraska kids my age grew up doing in the backyard; flip the wrist, fingers held high, thumb to the sky...not throwing bombs. You said it best by calling him a fullback. He gets square and headed downfield, hes an unstoppable brute. But getting to the corner takes forever, and he doesnt have a great cut step when he finally commits to keep. I kept waiting for an Iowa corner to snag one of his pitches out of the air and house it. Paul Johnson will get a QB in there at some point that can truly do these things, and then you will see the difference. Maybe you hadn't watched Nesbitt in a lot of games this year, but the guy is a monster. He's an exceptional athlete and has developed into a very capable option qb. Easily as good as Taylor and some of the better (not great) Neb option qb's. His game vs Iowa was just bad. He didn't play well, and Iowa was all over GT. Iowa matched up well vs GT's scheme, and was well prepared. Nesbitt's passes and pitches were very bad vs Iowa, but I've seen the guy dominate games and play a lot better than he did in that game. jmo.
  4. Hello folks. I wanted to drop in and say hello and register. This game with Texas coming up is starting to eat my brain. I'm getting pretty wound up. 1) How long have you been a member of Husker Nation? About 1 hour now. 2) What/who led you to The Nation? Google 3) Where are you from originally? Raised in Broken Bow, moved to Cozad a while, then out to Eastern Wyoming. In the Service from there and all over the world. 4) Where do you live now? Currently in Belle Fourche, SD. 5) Favorite Husker memory? Probably the family Thanksgivings vs. OU in the early 80's. 6) Worst Husker memory? Our offensive performance vs Texas in 2003. Then the failed 2pt conv vs. Miami. 7) Number of home games attended? 2. 2007 ISU, and 2009 300 consecutive sellout game. 8) Number of away games attended? 0 9) Favorite Husker memorabilia/apparel? I don't really have any honestly. A lot of caps and sweaters. 10) Favorite place to watch a Husker game? (section in Memorial, bar, friends house etc.) The comfort of my own living room with my family. 11) Favorite all time player? Tommy Frazier. 12) WCO or Option? It doesn't matter to me as long as we have a strong power run game first. Compliment it with some solid passing or option. Whatever works but a power running game first is what turns my dial up to 10. 13) Stevie Pederson or Billy Byrne? Steve Pederson. 14) Lil Red or Herbie Husker? Herbie. 15) Favorite Husker play? 95 CU game when Frazier gets hit and still delivers the pass. It's at 2:33 here... 16) Favorite game-day beverage? Probably a Monster Assault. 17) How did you find HuskerBoard? (referral source) Just wanted some folks to talk Husker football with. Did a Google search.
