  1. I want to give you guys a hearty congratulations. Again, this is a Longhorn fan that will be sorry to see you guys leave the conference. It was interesting watching the Horns against A & M. You do have to wonder how our offense scored so many points against A & M when you guys only managed 6. Yeah, you probably have a reason to be upset but now just take care of business and it will all be in the past. Good luck in the Big 10. I am sure a lot of you have enjoyed seeing the mighty Horns take such a big fall, but what I hope is that it teaches our kids a good lesson. To me sports is about building character and I sometimes think that the kids on teams that rarely lose don't really learn as much about dealing with real life. I look at teams like Baylor and marvel at the kids getting up each year to play against such odds. To me that takes some guts. Again, congrats and good luck.
  2. Okay, here I am, I joined last year to wish you guys well after the Championship game and so I've come back to take some licks and tell you that I will miss you guys when you leave. Yeah, looks bad for the boys from Austin, a friend of mine is coming up to take a paddling in person so get in some good wacks, he's got a nice inflatable cushion for the return ride home. The way you rolled up Kansas state I am glad the Rangers - Yankees game will be on at 3pm. Maybe we can get one out of two tomorrow. On a positive note, I hope with the loss of you and Colorado that we might play a better non conference schedule in the future but I ain't gonna hold my breath.
  3. Hey, I know a lot of you guys hate Texas but some of us down here really have enjoyed the Big 12. Hey, I still miss the SWC because you could pretty much go to any of the away games. There is no doubt that these changes are not really in the best interest of either the fans or the students. Its just more about squeezing every last dollar out of college sports. Does any of this make sense for the sports other than football? I was sorry that the breakup of the SWC lead to the demise of the NEB - OU game every year. So good luck and I hope you find that Ohio State and Michigan are more to your liking. Not that I have been there, but several of my buddies went to the Texas-Ohio State game up there and told me the trip to Ohio State was not very nice for the visiting Texas fans (so you may find that you have a new OU to hate). I am certainly sorry if you felt like you got the shaft from Texas. There are a lot of us down here that aren't happy about any of this. Obviously its a great time for us (texas) to maybe move to the Pac ? and the now penalized and embarrassed Trojans......
  4. That was John Chiles, they gave him some playing time the last few years but they never let him throw and then this year he was moved to receiver. Not sure he ever really got a great chance to make it at QB....he did play last night. Not sure he made any catches.
  5. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...o&type=lgns I was skeptical about Colt his first season. He threw all these short balls the first half of his first year but he won me over when UT beat Tech in Lubbock after he had a horrible first 28 minutes. He threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown just before the half and I literally thought that might be the end for him. He walked off the field like a beaten dog. Then he came back in and threw a touchdown pass just before halftime. After that I had to say I'd been all wrong about him......I think if there was anyway he could have performed at a decent level he would have gone back in.......I gotta say I was thinking the same thing about Gilbert last night. He really took a heavy dose at the end but he seemed to shrug it off. Will be interesting to see if he's got it or not.....
  6. The same kind of person that gets a game winning int at the 5 and doesn't have the smarts to fall down and instead trys to run and fumbles. What game did that occur in? As to the fake punt, I don't think it would have been a terrible call if it hadn't been 4th and what was it 15 or 20 for a first. Maybe try that on 4th and less than 10 but there was a good chance even if completed it wouldn't have been for a first. As to knocking the ball down, I think that is maybe a lost art. Earlier this season we had a dback intercept a pass on a 4th down play instead of knocking it down and we ended up with the ball on something like the 2 yard line instead of at the 20 or 30. I have wondered if the players are schooled on thinking that way..............looking forward to playing you guys next year......
  7. I'm not going to make any excuses. Thats what we (the horns) get for A) not having a running game and B) not having a better backup at QB considering how much McCoy runs with the ball. The amazing thing is that I would have thought this would have happened to Vince Young when he won the title. Somehow no one ever quite got a solid shot on Vince. Now McCoy's been knocked out twice...... And as far as Bradford goes, I have no love for the Sooners, but I was really sorry to see him go down like he did. He should not have been in that UT-OU game if he was knocked out on the type of play that sent him out. If he never gets an NFL paycheck I hope Stoops sends him a healthy check at some point. Colt looked like he was about to cry after the game for not being able to play. Surprisingly he (and most of these college kids) reminds me of a racehorse. They don't know how to not run. I wish him a lot of luck in the NFL because he gave UT a lot. He took a hell of a lot of hits in his career here.
  8. Well I gotta say I would have never guessed we could put some fear in the Bama folks until 2 minutes were left in the game. Yep, if Williams catches that very catchable pass in the endzone in the first half it would have even been more interesting. Still, this is one of those times you realize how important it is to have a reliable running game and we never had that this year. Gotta say our defense played well when they needed to in the 2nd half until they were put in an untenable position..and our O line was much better than against you guys..............as to McCoy being able to come back, he had no reason to take a risk like Bradford did. As much as I hate losing to the Sooners, I hated to see the way Bradford went down in our game against them. I think it showed he wasn't really ready to come back. I hope he gets his due in the NFL because while Stoops, Mack Brown and all the coaches make insane money, the kids have no guarantee. Do I wish we could have Colt, sure but he ain't gettin paid like Brett Farve to play hurt. Maybe Mack should have said he'd give him that big pay raise he just got to go back in. I think his raise was a bit premature............Okay, any more want to pile on I will be back later, bring it on!
  9. So I signed on here after the Big 12 championship to say "good game" and I know that was painful for a lot of you and pissed off a bunch of the rest of you. So here I am with my Horns at half mast for you guys and you can pile on all you want. As to my analysis, I'd have to say neither coach looks like they are worth 4 - 5 million to me. All year long I wondered why Mack didn't give Gilbert more snaps in games that were in the bag. Was he trying to help McCoy get the Heisman? I hope not. I bet Gilbert could have gotten a couple of games worth of experience in some of the one sided games...........I wish we'd used our time outs on defense to give our guys a blow in the first half. Then what the heck are we doing trying to get any points with a freshman quarterback with less than a minute left in the half. Okay not sure Sabin has been much more impressive with some of his decisions. Anyway, its open season so take your shots I promise I will be back to see them all.....I guess I have basketball to look forward to..................
  10. Well if I ever make it up your way I will bring you a case of Shiner Bock..........it was a tad difficult cheering on the Sooners and Red Raiders but glad they helped offset the setbacks to Aggies and Cowboys....now I just wish the horns had a bit more of a running game....did I miss something or was the Iowa State game not on tv?
  11. Congrats on the win from Austin. Congrats to you for giving the conference another win........ meant to do this earlier but was watching too much of the Leach implosion. Not sure about other horn fans but I have mixed feelings about seeing leach get fired. It was always an exciting game on the schedule but playing Tech every year with that damn offense was torture. Folks speculate that he might head to the NFL, now that would be interesting. Not sure I see an NFL players getting in a small dark room for him................
  12. Its nice you guys are feeling bad for Colt. I am a UT grad and I think he's a pretty good guy. If I'd had a vote I don't know who'd I vote for. I have to admit that CBS has made me dislike Tebow, but looking at his Stats you gotta give him some credit. It looks like he has 800 yards rushing this year in addition to his passing stats. I expected Chris Simms to do that for us but he ended up being an awful runner. I kinda wish your man had won because linemen never get enough credit, but I also think Ingram had a great year. I don't know that it should matter but it appears he might actually graduate in 3 years (at least thats what I thought I heard on tv). Colt had some great games this year but you guys and OU made him look average at best. I see some of you don't want to give him love because you think he'll make a bunch of money at the next level but you know, I am not sure he's going to cut it. I think he may be another guy like our Major Applewhite. A good college QB but not quite up to NFL standards. I think the other 4 will be playing on Sundays.....
  13. http://www.statesman.com/sports/content/sp.../1209bohls.html Could not find the other voters posted online but 3 of 4 Austin sports writers voted for Suh. Its in the paper but I can't seem to find it online but maybe some enterprising Husker folk can....
  14. Welcome to the Board. I see you've met our duplicate post monster. Sorry about that. September 12, 2010 is a Sunday. I think maybe you're looking at this season's schedule? Not sure about that. I agree that we need a playoff. Legislated parity combined with 120 teams in one division make this process untenable. TCU & Boise are getting screwed. The BCS bosses are cowards, plain and simple. They're afraid that if they put these teams up against the other BCS schools that they'd end up with three undefeated teams, and possibly four. I hope against hope that Cincy beats Florida. You know the BCS overlords are ready to sacrifice their first-born to ensure a Gator win. I'll guarantee you that game has the most "blown" calls of any game all year long. The Texas/Alabama winner will be undefeated. The TCU/Boise winner will be undefeated. Cincy beats Florida to go undefeated. That's my dream scenario. GIVE ME BACK MY SPORT, YOU #)(*#$#)#)'s!!!!!! Okay yes, I screwed up and that was last year. You guys play Idaho on Sept 11th next year. So if we could get everyone to stay home on September 11th all across the country and make a statement that we want what every other sport has. The basketball tournament is maybe my favorite event all year long. I remember a few years ago Copin State beat #2 seeded South Carolina in the first round and we played them in the second round. I almost found myself rooting for Copin State. Yeah it would be fun to have 3 undefeated teams after the bowls this year.
  15. Hey Guys from a Longhorn Alum, it was difficult, but I rooted for Oklahoma last year. I didn't think I could do it, but hey I've had to admit Stoops knows how to come back from adversity and he schedules a tougher non conference schedule than we do (they had TCU Washington and Cincinnati last year). I wasn't a Horn who complained when so many of my friends said we got hosed last year. I hated to admit it but the way Sooners demolished Texas Tech and we lost to them, and on the strength of their schedule I thought they were more deserving then we were even though we beat them....and yes, I was there rooting for you when you were playing Va Tech early this season. That was painful to watch.....I think a lot of us here in Austin have a special respect for Nebraska. And some of you can say you don't like us in the Big 12 and I can understand. I went to UT in the 70's and loved the fact that if you wanted to, you could travel to almost every away game in the SWC. I am sorry the SWC imploded....... If you really want to boycott something, I would suggest we all boycott one weekend's games early next September, lets say September 12 (you are playing Arkansas State) and it looks like we have Wyoming here. I would love to send a message to our schools that they need to do something about a playoff. I hate it that TCU and Bosie are playing each other. Maybe thats because Utah cleaned out Alabama last year.....
  16. Well, I have thought all along that we had no consistent running game and there would be a time when it might mean the end of the line. Colt (and Texas Tech) have proven to me that that might not matter in football anymore. Just look at all these pass happy offenses in both College and the Pros's. Yeah we may get whipped up on by Alabama and if we do I'd be the first one to say it proves we need a playoff system. This year we may have gotten lucky without such a system but last year I would have loved to be in a playoff after having just the one loss. I think last years Horn's team was probably better. And I know some of you might be upset with the ruling at the end so thats fine. Go ahead and vent. I didn't like the call on the 4th down respot that allowed you a field goal so maybe we are even........good luck in your bowl game.....
  17. I gotta say I love that graphic...but as to replays, as a Texas fan, I have no idea how they figured where to spot the ball on the first series (after you guys intercepted our pass) on the 4th down play. I mean it might have been right as it did appear that the runner was on top of a longhorn but how the heck did they determine where he really was? As I saw that I wondered if there has to be conclusive evidence of the need for the respot AND where the actual spot is. I have a real problem with this type of replay reversal as well as those when they are trying to determine if the ball broke the goal line. Most of the time they do not have an angle that I would say provides conclusive evidence to change the ruling but it almost seems like more and more they are making these judgements on review.......as I said in a thread I started, good hard game and you guys have an awesome defense. I am not sure we deserved to win but thats how it goes sometimes....you can get some payback next October 16...
  18. As a UT grad I want to say "hats off to your defense." As I watched the game here in Austin I couldn't help but think our weak non conference schedule would be our downfall in a tough close game.......It was an exciting game. Isn't that the reason to watch? I hate the fact that since there is no playoff we are treated to so few of these. It wasn't pretty but it was entertaining (maybe not for Colt). We've now gone 13-0 and we have had three or four exciting games. I might be a longhorn in the minority tonight, but I am sorry there is not a playoff system because it would mean we'd see more good non conference games. I would love to see TCU, Boise State and the rest of them teams each get their chance. Okay, mark your calendar for 10/16 next year and you can get some payback at home against us. (I'll admit that secretly I would love to have somehow seen Alabama and Florida both end up with a loss this year and UT play TCU for the title. It would have been really interesting to see us have to play a team from a school that we ditched in favor of Baylor). Good tough game.
