  1. Lots of AF people so far. 20 year guy and I also was Civil Engineering. Worst assignment: Shemya AFB, AK 1973-1974 Best assignment: 819th REDHORSE RAF Wethersfield, UK 1987-1990 "It wasn't ME 1st Sergent, I was TDY at the time..."
  2. We did the same thing in the semi-small Nebraska town I worked in. Town had one cab and it was kept real busy on those mornings. Really miss the plant and Nebraska for that matter. One bright spot will be this weekend; Wife and I will be cheering Big Red on from the Frayed Knot here in Nashville. Great watch site for all us displaced Huskers. GBR !
  3. Shift workers are a weird bunch. We never get enough sleep, eat strange stuff at strange hours and basically are some moody SOBs. For the last 15 years I've worked a 12 hour shift ( half the month 8 am to 8 pm, then switch to 8 pm to 8 am for the last half of the month ). After we moved, I swore I'd never work shift again. That lasted 6 months. Just couldn't handle working a normal day shift. New job is back to rotating 8 hour shifts and I love it. I work alone and YES, I do talk to myself and answer. Things I have found out after 35 years of different types of shift work: - 4 hours is the max I can sleep. - I can sleep anytime, any place, any noise level and in any position (including vertical). - Caffeine has no affect on me. - What I can eat during daylight hours, will make me puke on night shift. - The internet was invented for shift workers. - You can make a game out of everything you do. - Most people do not know the meaning of BORED. - That beer you have at 8 in morning, as you watch your neighbors head to work, is the best beer ever! Anyone else out there doing 'shifts'?
  4. Found this album hiding in my collection; flood of memories.
  5. Noticed in the last couple of weeks, a lot of teachers coming into the place I work getting ready for the upcoming school year. All are excited at the opening of their schools and can't wait to get in the classroom. Their carts are full of supplies to make learning a little bit easier for students. I've cut countless 12" x 12" squares of melamine fiberboard for dry erase boards, wood for computer desks, etc. Some, if not all, of this is coming out of their pockets. Just wanted to say thanks to those who do that little bit extra.
  6. Just what we need here in Nashville, more rain. Hoping for some drying time to start my restoration. Having just moved here from Nebraska, wanted to share a clip about the people here...
  7. If it helps a little, my team is 13-31 overall and last in their conference. This is after a nice run in 2008 and losing 11 players to the draft in 2009. Some are also calling for big changes in our coaching staff. For us, pitching is the key weakness. I've always been one to wait it out, probably to a fault. Not my place to comment on your coaching staff, not the reason for this rely. I am a big fan of NU baseball, having attended many games during my 15 years in the state. The Haymarket is one of the best fields in the country. Some of the best baseball I have seen, on any level, was right inside Rosenblatt . Was hoping to see my team against Vanny last weekend, but nature had other plans. Hang in their Huskers, support the team, go out and enjoy some baseball. ( Red=Dawgs and Scarlet=Huskers, hence my login name.)
  8. During a chat with an old friend, decided that 1969 saw probably the most albums released that influenced where rock music is today. We both graduated high school that year and both went overseas to do our 'Time'. Groups that debuted on album that year: Led Zepplin Blind Faith Crosby,Stills and Nash King Crimson James Gang Santana Doobie Bros. Allman Bros. Chicago The Band Grand Funk Warren Zevon Yes Youngbloods Probably missed some, just going through my album 'stack'. All in all, a great year for rock music.
  9. Getting ready for the Jimmy Buffett concert tonight. Neither one of us are getting any younger. As Jimmy says in his song, " I'm growing older but not up My metabolic rate is pleasantly stuck Let those winds of time blow over my head I'd rather die while I'm living than live while I'm dead..." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJjAR1TW2bM Will be thinking of this song at work today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6d2wCIRTsxQ
  10. Wanted to read this when it came out, finally got a copy as a gift. Maybe they are trying to tell me to ' take a hike...'
  11. Agree that he has slowed a little, but he still finishes every play when he's on the field. He will be missed here in Nashville, and wish him well with the Lions. We did pick up a very good DE in Derrick Morgan.
  12. Hope this is the right place to ask. Now that I'm living in Tennessee, need a little help listening to the Spring Game over the internet. Any suggestions on which internet radio station to try? Thanks.
  13. Both are pretty long, but two masters of the single pickup Gibson guitar. My generation never worried about radio time limits... Round Midnight-Wes Montgomery (1965) Gibson L-5 How Insensitive - Pat Metheny (1992) Gibson ES-175 w/single pickup
  14. Always a nice thing for me, as everyone at work will be just a little easier to get along with.
  15. Looking forward to seeing them next month- Also, looking forward to warmer days to drag out my 'chair'... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dS2zRGa0rIk
  16. 4 a.m.; what else but some Jazz... Followed by Coltrane http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olOYynQ-_Hw
  17. Nice background on some of the great adventurers of the past 150 years; worth the read.
  18. It is sad that the longest, active international trophy gets very little news. From my first sailing lesson in 1967, it's something that gets in your blood. This sums up my feelings on sailing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCrkugLUG3o
  19. Real loud. Wife is out shopping and I'm not! Flash from the past...1969 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jM6y6qPLh8s
  20. For any sailing fans... After 15 years, the cup has come home. BMW Oracle's trimaran defeated the Switzerland Alinghi team in a sweep. Not the first multi-hull used; Connor's Catamaran won out in 1988. The boat still reminds me of 'WaterWorld' ...
