  1. You must put more trust in the rumors of "4.4" forty times than I do. I remember Beanie Wells running his way through some decent Big Ten defenses . . . and then he ran like a 4.59 at the combine. Forty times are nearly worthless. Give me a ten yard dash time in pads on the field and I'd be interested . . . but forty times are irrelevant. I like looking at fortys though just to throw that in Iowa Hawkeye fans' faces!!!!!!!!!!! I look at them just to determine who the Raiders plan on drafting. That way I can laugh at them the whole time they're on the clock. nice!
  2. He told Brion about the USF scholarship being pulled while he was "in-route" to WKU. I wonder if he got trigger happy because of the emotional impact that news might have had on him?
  3. what do you mean "due to our history" you don't expect we will get any of the three? you talking about the last 15 years or so, w/ recruits usually going the other way...or the last couple of years? I think we end up w/ Owa, and I'm leaning towards us getting Cooper as well. Then I think...we'll have a surprise. I'm hoping it Simek, but I think there will be something we weren't expecting. In the transition year, Bo landed 9 recruits between 1/27 and the first week in February. Last year we picked up Martin really late. I doubt it will be a 4*, but I think we'll see another player signing sometime after Wednesday.
  4. I can see that changing things in the eyes of an 18 year. But if he thinks long and hard about it he'll realize that his best chance at success is at safety. Why would he want to go to ND and compete with "true" wide receivers? He's athletic, but we've watched plenty of recruits switch positions only to find themselves lost on the depth chart. There have been a few (cody glenn) that it worked out for, but I'd attribute that to Bo and consider it out of the ordinary. You look at Marcus M, and Latravius W and wonder what they could have been if they'd have stuck w/ their natural positions and we'll never know. I really liked watching mendoza carry the ball a couple of years ago. Then he trimmed down and kind of changed his style of play to switch to receiver, ended up back when we were short on depth and it cost him at least a year of eligibility, his spot on the chart and that's something he might never be able to regain. I just don't see him wanting to go in and compete with Rudolph, Floyd, Walker, Kamara, Evens, Goodman, Toma, etc, etc. If anything, I see this as a smoke and mirror sale by ND...their intention is to put him back at safety. Both their starting safeties graduated this year, as did a couple more on the depth chart. They are short there, that's where he'll end up. They have recruited 2 safeties this year, one runs a 4.65 40, the other a 4.7. Slow white boys don't cut it 1 on 1 with someone like Floyd. They need Cooper in the secondary.
  5. No offense, but analyzing Nebraska's rank for recruiting this year is pointless. BYU is taking like 26 kids to scholarship and we are taking way less than that, so you can't really compare. All I know is we have shaped a phenomenal class for 2010. They only rank you based on the top 20 in your class - so whether a team has 35 players or 20 it doesn't matter. With owa/cooper we ended up at something like 1568 points (15th), with only owa it's 1434 (18th). Though there will be some movement and a few surprises, I still expect us to end up with a top 20 class, or just outside of that.
  6. Judging by the rivals article and a few things that I have read and heard from posters up in the Portland area I would tell you that Oregon State will probably finish third. I am not saying this person lied, it might have been old information that he had that was before the AAA game. Since I cannot directly quote the article I will paraphrase. He basically said that if distance was still a factor for anyone that is involved in his decision he would have committed to Oregon State and been done with it. To be honest Crabtree isnt lieing in that post that Schuh just quoted. All signs point to him being "N" this "information" would have to be new. at least within the last 7-8 days or so, because OSU wasn't even in the discussion a week ago. point is, people are starting to fill the board with rumors and rants (we have a forum for that). if you want to post your opinion that he is 100% N, or 100% OSU feel free, but please don't troll the boards making statements that are supported by nothing. likewise, no one needs to get all worked up over posts like this. (not EZ's post, lil_red's) speculation is one thing, claiming inside information that has no basis just makes you look like an idiot.
  7. I'm not sure if I can post a link to HuskerPedia on here - but I'm going to and if the MODs want to take it down feel free. It was an insightful opinion with plenty of solid statements. Long read, but worth it. http://www.huskerbbs.com/vbbs/showthread.php?t=80386
  8. I'm not getting my hopes up on this one any more. Where there's smoke there's usually fire; and there was a ton of smoke today suggesting Brion committed to WKU. I'm chalking this one up in the "L" column and will consider it a hail mary TD if we land him Wednesday. Let's hope O'Hanlon is in coverage! ...since O'Hanlon covered VT's "hail mary" so well - (I think that was his coverage anyway, I could be wrong) Right, that was the joke. Sometimes I underestimate the need to insert this emoticon - I see it now - read it wrong. Monday.
  9. ...assuming this thread will die today when there are some more confirmations. there will be the usual "we don't need him" and "better off without him" crap posts (which I already see there's been a few), but I'm marking this one down and a loss and if he flips on signing day it will just make me all that much happier since we're out of it at this point. where there's smoke there's fire. journal star is reporting the confirmation this morning, but noted that he wouldn't return their calls. I would assume that if he really wanted to dispell the rumors he'd answer for nebraska's papers.
  10. If what huricane said is true, and he demanded early playing time I'm sure all Bo had to do was be honest ensure him that he WILL be on the field in front of thousands of fans, as a freshman. He WILL go up against some of the best defenses in the nation, as a freshman. He WILL be playing alongside players far more talented than almost anyone on WKU's roster, as a freshman. Oh, and that he WILL be leading the scout team...which could beat WKU almost any day of the week.

  12. wah waaaaaah. Be optimistic! Everything will work out! Well it's official on Rivals as tonight... Carnes is officially WKU's. Where is it official again? You mean the part where he said he would officially announce on signing day?
  13. I am trying to set the record for red hits. I still say he is a punk for making us hold a scholarship for him until signing day.I mean is this thing becoming some kind of game these people play for a couple weeks in the limelight. Before you buzz me. There are a lot of people rated high than him that have already declared.Hear let me do it before you do. HuskerCrazy He does have the right to his opinion, and on some level I kind of agree with him. However, these kids are taking a chance on something that will impact the rest of their lives. maybe they can't cut it and ride the pine, maybe they get injured and never play again. IF IF IF they are a silent commit and want to do it on signing day and enjoy their 15min of fame, i have no problem with that. If they have already decided, and haven't told anyone, limiting the moves we make, then that is pretty lame. Unfortunately this topic is dependent on a lot of information that we just don't have and that makes it all speculation I'd rather talk about recruits we still have a shot at getting. (I've said my farewell to Carnes already). I'm a bit worried about Owa though...he's more important and Mama is making her wishes known that she wants him at Oregon State. With his coach also from Oregon State, the 2 biggest influences want him to become a Beaver. Owa wants to be a Husker...does he stay home to please Mama or make his own choice? Links on Mom pushing him to OSU please, I haven't heard anything like that. Owa said she was fine w/ him leaving Oregon long ago. (after NU in-home) As for Wood, even though he is an alumni, I'd bet my next paycheck he'd rather have Owa end up a top 10 draft pick 3-4 years from now playing for NU than falling into the third round w/ OSU. No links, just what Owa apparently told the coaches this weekend. how do you know though? where did it come from? this forum? another forum? at least let me know so when he signs on Wednesday I can send a crow their way

(can a MOD verify who claims the worst reputation after 10 days of the new board?) Post again so that we can all -1 you some more. Now that you've signed w/ Nevada are you going to leave our board? On a side note, aren't you somewhere around 56 years old? Graduated in 71'? I have NEVER heard a 56 year old call a kid a punk. At 56 I could see you throwing out some racial slurs (Clint Eastwood Grand Tarino comments) but not "punk"
  16. ...just logged in for the first time in 24 hours. feel refreshed. had to +1 half a dozen posts that were critical of HuskerCrazy because aparently he fights back w/ the red button. Since I haven't been hit by the red button in at least 24 hours... How do you make HuskerCrazy laugh on Saturday? ...tell him a joke on Wednesday.
  17. Fair enough comment on the coaching abilities, I admit a large part of my confidence in this staff is because of what they did on the defensive side of the ball. There is work to do on the offensive side of the ball for sure, but I would put the defensive staff up with anyone in the country. I will take a more of wait and see approach on the Offensive Side, but if the staff as a whole is a very good one then that should offset some talent deficiencies IMO. Scheme and well developed players can make even the best teams look bad, just like NU in the 90's with TO's offense. NU did recruit pretty well, but we weren't on an elite top 3 level in recruiting rankings. I think Bo can and will have to do a bit of the same, recruit pretty well as defined previously, yet use his Coaching Prowess to offset the rest of the difference. Andy Staples disagrees with your recruiting rankings from the 90's. And of course this is in retrospect - at the time of signing this 92' class was not viewed as "one of the best all time" Maybe Bo can add one of these 20th ranked classes to the best all time. If he does, the list of notables will be all defensive guys http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/andy_staples/01/29/best-classes/2.html EDIT: Didn't notice someone had already posted this link in another forum and you already commented on it caveman. To quick for me.
  18. I agree, I think NU will have a VERY hard time ever competing against teams like Florida on the recruiting trail. Although, give us a couple National Championships in a 3 year span and I might be completely wrong. Florida has an advantage in that area. Kids tend to want to play for winning programs. Unfortunately, most of these kids were about 5 years old the last time we were really dominating college football. I do "slightly" disagree w/ your statement that we have an avantage in coaching. True, over 99% of the teams out there we certainly do. Over EVERY team in the BIG12 North that's obvious. However, I would say that Bo still has a little ways to go in order to prove that his "entire" staff is better than the other 1%. You look at the rankings of Watson's offenses in the big12 since his time with CO - it's not all that impressive. Fortunately w/ Bo's D, middle of the pack should be enough. I'd argue the staffs at Florida, Texas, Alabama, & Oklahoma are superior to ours...at least to this point, and those are the ones we'll be fighting for NC's with in the near future. A lot of seasons we'll have to play 2 of those 4. I'd say we match up well with LSU, USC, Georgia, Oregon (though Kelley is building a solid program - minus the thugs), Virginia Tech, etc. All teams on the cusp, but not quite over the hump. (LSU made it over the hump but they had Bo then too) We'll see, I like our chances. We can once again dominate the North I believe, and after his showing in the big12 championship game I'd give Bo an even chance of winning the Big12 any day of the week. Win the Big12, probably have a spot in the NC. I bet we are playing for NC's regularly for the next 10-15 years. What I'm not convinced of yet is if we can beat the Florida's or the Alabama's. Ohio State makes a lot of NC and BCS games, but they always lay an egg. They are usually outmatched when it comes to tallent - and that starts w/ recruiting. If we face Florida or Alabama next year for the NC...we'll be outmatched when it comes to tallent as well. If I had to bet my house on the game, I'd go w/ tallent.
  19. Good find, thanks for posting. What do you know...Owa didn't tip his hat in any direction. The reason why he likes OSU is the same reason he likes NU, but we have the football tradition. UCLA is in a city - not a lot of insight I am convinced the "dead tie" statement is something that he and his family have worked up. I find it HIGHLY unlikely that when they worked everything out all three came up even. Even if they did come up even, or close - he would be using words like "similar, even, tied, match, alike, comparable" - the fact that he uses the same two words 'dead tie' in every interview he does, and his coach uses those same words has me thinking his mind is made up...what's he's doing now is trying his best not to tip his hat and they figured a consistent message they all agreed on would be smartest.
  20. ...just not as much of one as EZ - who will probably be dropping out of school shortly because of Owa Watch 2010.
  21. ...not sure that is going to help with your credibility any... Over 2000 posts on Owa and I couldn't find a single one that started with either of those statements, though I could have missed one. Perhaps you can point out the 1000+ posts for me? Thanks in advance. Welcome to the board. Even got yourself a research project already! Thanks for the welcome. I accept the research project, although you have to promise to reciprocate by looking up the word 'hyperbole' as your research project. Great to be aboard and looking forward to LOI day! Done: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hyperbole How's your project coming along?
  22. Not to get everone all paranoid on such an arctic winter Friday...but... Scroll down to Owa, and look at his college commitment. http://www.parade.com/news/all-america/2010/meet-parades-all-america-high-school-football-team.html (don't get worked up over this please - i'm sure it's a typo, but it's new Owa news so we can probably fill 5 pages of the thread w/ something new for once)
  23. haha, thanks for the point. "Reputation" is about as reliable/creditable as the Rivals star rankings though so I won't cry if I lose 1 or 2. I live/work down on the Plaza, yourself Oh, and because this is an Owa thread and I don't want to lose any more points for going off topic I have a HUGE Owa update.... ...he's really good at playin the foosball.
  24. I wonder if Missouri will come calling since they just lost McDonald to KU. MU tends to feed on our castaways...Sloan would fit that mold.
