  1. 90% of the responses to the Owa thing here are very reasonable. To the other 10%, I know you're going to hate so I won't talk you out of it. At least wait until 2012 to see if this guy's even a player. This isn't NFL free agency. It's not like we just lost out on a known quantity. NU competed against the top schools for some pretty prime athletes in a recruiting year that looked very modest most of the season, and won more than their fair share of battles. Recruiting is like professional gambling. You do your homework and better your odds. They did a ton of work to target the athletes that they did, and used the momentum from our late season push to close on some guys with some great upside. A better discussion at this point would be what 4* guys will be contributing in 3 years, and which ones will we have to rack our brains to even remember? You know there will be a couple of each. Place your bets
  2. I felt better about getting Owa then I did about getting Cooper, and certainly better than I felt about getting Carnes. I'm going to stay optimistic on this one.
  3. Definitely. I mean all of the evidence points to this kid lacking heart. By 'evidence', I mean useless extrapolation based on speculation about what an 18 year old kid is thinking about in the week leading up to LOI day.
  4. Carnes stated his reasons. Carnes was only recruited as a QB, and would likely be ahead of anyone not named Lee as a passer on our squad. That alone would make sure he stays at QB. McNair was 'recruited' by larger schools, but only MSU and Ole Miss offered, as a DB. McNair preferred QB, and found a place he could play QB. Carnes situation is not similar to McNair, in any way. The point that was obviously lost is that picking a smaller school doesn't mean that you're some kind of timid little kid who's scared of competition, which is what your previous post made it sound. If you're a player, you're a player, and in this day of wall-to-wall coverage of all things football, you'll get noticed. I'm just not prepared to say that Carnes isn't willing to 'run through a wall' because he didn't choose NU. That kind of sentiment is homerism at it's finest IMO.
  5. Here's the thing though - is it a good way to start your maturing into the world by taking an easy road in life? Just because you may have to work a little harder and put out a little more, it isn't worth it? Like my crazy drunk uncle once told me, "success is like an grapefruit, the juice is worth the squeeze." Granted he didn't know ish about success, it still is true. But the thing is in football, you get out as much as you put in. And if you show a willingness to want the easy road, the chances of your success are not that good. Even more, if Brion has any hopes of going places with football at WKU, he will need to work twice as hard to get half the respect he would at a larger university. Life isn't supposed to be easy. If it was, it wouldn't be fun. Now that is not to say Brion will not do huge things in life. I'm only speaking solely from a football prospective. And as a football player, when you lack that competitive fire where you are willing to run through walls to get what you want, it doesn't bode well for any kid. I also wouldn't say the kid is being 'demeaned', as that is rather strong word. Demeaning would be grown men going into a kids house, having to get a kids mothers approval, selling yourself and your school to a 17 year old just to gain his 'word'. Then to have that 17 year old kid tell you one thing, then do another which makes you look silly to an endless amount of people. THAT is demeaning. But that's the side of the story that people really will not notice or even care about. This is all speculation. No one knows exactly why he made the decision he made. From a football perspective, maybe he feels he has a better chance of playing quarterback at WK. Steve McNair had a full ride offer from Florida, but gave it up because Alcorn St. promised that they would keep him at quarterback. I may be wrong, but I think McNair had quite a lengthy NFL career and was the last guy to have his 'competitive fire' questioned.
  6. I seem to remember an interview with Cody Green last year, when he was a verbal. He specifically mentioned that he talked to Watson every week and that he was a big reason he was attending Nebraska. I don't recall Ekeler's name being mentioned in the article.
  7. ...not sure that is going to help with your credibility any... Over 2000 posts on Owa and I couldn't find a single one that started with either of those statements, though I could have missed one. Perhaps you can point out the 1000+ posts for me? Thanks in advance. Welcome to the board. Even got yourself a research project already! Thanks for the welcome. I accept the research project, although you have to promise to reciprocate by looking up the word 'hyperbole' as your research project. Great to be aboard and looking forward to LOI day! Done: http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hyperbole How's your project coming along? Rest assured that it is now at the top of my priority list: 1) Skimming Huskerboard posts 2) 3) Abstaining from drugs 4) Breathing
  8. No apology necessary. I suppose everyone is a bit worked up as signing day approaches. We need some kind of venting exercise, like racquetball, or :-)

  10. thats so dumb ESPN wouldn't pay for that would they? Yes, they are going to have coffee and donuts and maybe catered lunch for all in attendance. Then they will make $$$ off the coverage. This is about $$$. ESPNU does have much if everyone knows where everyone is going to go. And we care why? Just because he's taking the opportunity to publicize his decision on national TV doesn't mean he's a prima donna. I have a sneaky suspicion Bo doesn't recruit prima donnas. Owa has had an amazing high school career and has earned this notoriety, so let the kid have his day in the sun that will put a nice bow on his high school career. Plus, there are two good things about this for NU fans. One, we get to watch his decision live on TV. Two, it will be great publicity for NU if he chooses the Huskers. It can't hurt getting more guys to grab the red hat on signing day. My point is this, he is now being forced to announce on signing day and at a certain time, 11:30 am PST. OWA Watch 2009-2010 was over 120 people on friday night because we all felt his decision was imminent and spontaneous. It is no longer imminent and spontaneous. It is being exploited by ESPN for $$$. His thread on this board has taken on rock-star status. 41 pages and Cooper is at 9 and Carnes is at 7 pages. I feel he was ready to announce earlier this week and has since been forced for TV to push this back. I don't think he is a prima donna at all. Do I think he likes this attention? YES!!! Is he being exploited a little bit?!!! Yes Will I be watching? Ummmmmmmmmm, hell yes!!! I have more thoughts on why I can prove he likes this, but I need to get some work done. Then I must be missing something here. Who is forcing Owa to wait until signing day and announce on TV? ESPN? Rivals? Well what leverage do either of these entities have to force Owa or any recruit to do anything? If Owa wanted to announce his commitment right now with a simple text message, he could. ESPN is obviously trying to get him to announce on their network to make money. What's surprising or scandalous about that? They are part of a publicly traded company that answers to stock holders. Money is also the reason they are going to air one or two Nebraska football games next year as well. But they aren't forcing Owa to do anything. Unless I'm missing something in this story, this is Owa's decision. Well, once again, the question was asked, 'what leverage do these entities have on him?' You say in the same breath that he's not being forced, yet you also say 'TV is forcing his hand'. At some point we're going to have to admit that Owa plays a part in these theatrics, which is fine, but this whole 'poor Owa, these TV bastards are taking advantage of this kid' perspective is starting to sound ridiculous U joined this thread 6 mins ago??? You are going have some (CSI) on you real soon. You can't be serious. Your first post? You have to have a little more credibility than posting 6 mins ago. Credibility? I saw something fairly ridiculous and felt the need to join the site and ask a follow up question. I'm a Nebraska fan. I have been watching recruiting rather intensely these past few days, as obviously a lot of Husker fans have, and I basically did not understand what point you were making. Maybe you could clarify, or maybe you can just get upset about it and call into question my 'credibility', which is an odd word for a place where half the posts start with 'rumor has it ...' or 'I heard from my friend's girlfriend's former nanny that...'.
