  1. Thanks for helping out, Seth! BTW, still no reply from the Post... they did have Pierre Allen (see other thread) listed though.
  2. today on Sports.Yahoo.com I saw the "Featured Opinion" section had this headline: "Jerry Rice earned the right to decide when he would retire. Too bad the Broncos decided for him." that headline didn't really reflect the article connected to it so I don't know if it was Larry Beil (the writer) or whoever that came up with it but-- what utter crap. How anyone can turn the Broncos/Shanahan into some kind of bad guy over this is beyond me. the only thing the Broncos did was prolong his career for a few more months and gave the guy an honest last shot. ok, moving on.... Jerry had earned the right to decide when to retire but it was still unfortunate to see the Greatest All-Time WR drop so many passes with the Seahawks and the Broncos recently. I'll just have to watch a little ESPN Classic 49ers to get the positive images back into my memories of the guy. Good Luck Jerry!
  3. As long as we're talkin' Pierre Allen/B-ball, here's a couple pics. http://www.durangoherald.com/sports/05/spo...rts050313_7.htm http://media.mnginteractive.com/media/pape...6/0403allen.jpg
  4. considering we got commitments last year from guys that visited during losses, it apparently isn't a huge factor. especially when most of them realize we are still in a transition phase and that's part of the reason they are being recruited. but, then again, extreme negativity seems to be quite popular all the sudden.
  5. per a Rivals teaser-- maybe Pierre Allen?!? I didn't find him on Scout.com but Rivals has him as a 2* DE. http://nebraska.rivals.com/viewprospect.as...sp?pr_key=36209 BTW, Pierre's from the same HS as Cory Ross (Thomas Jefferson HS).
  6. Updates.... Lord, Bingham and Hollowell were all added to their teams' practice squads today. Benard Thomas was picked up by the Falcons. No word (YET) on Parrella, Golliday, or Foreman. Also, the Bears signed a couple CBs off waivers so Jerrell Pippens was cut. He may also be re-signed to the p'squad if he is not taken off waivers by another team.
  7. Maybe a mind-break from the Maine game.... but this ain't happiness either. There were, IMO, a few surprises on cut downs today. Texans S Jammal Lord - he's still a project so don't be surprised if he's added to the practice squad. Giants LB TJ Hollowell - A bit surprising considering the Giants coaches were reportedly very high on TJ- though, he was on the practice squad last year too. there was a report prior to cuts that the Giants were going to release a couple players they were high on, in hopes that they could re-sign them to the p'squad before any other teams steal them away. Chargers DT Ryon Bingham - SDBoltReport.com seemed high on him but I saw him in a couple preseason games and he seemed very ineffective to say the least and barely challenged the olinmen. but as with the others- possibly a practice squader? Cardinals TE Aaron Golliday - also surprising since he started some preseaon games at TE-- as well as WR (go figure). yet another practice squad guy? Rams DT John Parrella - anyone need a veteran leader on the defensive line? It would be sad to see his career end this way so hopefully he'll sign with someone and hold off retirement for at least 1 more season... Raiders LB Jay Foreman - He didn't do much in preseason but I don't think he even started any games- IMO its still a surprising cut though. He'll likely get picked up by another team eventually. Jacksonville DE Benard Thomas - only surprise here is that it didn't happen a couple days ago. Jag fans think he'll be picked up on the practice squad.
  8. Channel 154 on my Dishnetwork receiver is.... NFL NETWORK when did this happen?! i searched for news/web on Google and only came up with this http://www.satelliteguys.us/showthread.php?t=84429 it has other Dish channel listings.... and also this from mid-August http://dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=44867 really nothing but rumors and others discovering they had the channel. you'd think there'd be some kind of announcment from Dish or the NFL but i found nothing on either of their websites. Hopefully this is not just a teaser from DishNetwork, as they seem to do most of their teasers over weekends.
  9. Well, Frankie recruited primarily out of the State of Nebraska and less everywhere else.. and it eventually led to his firing.
  10. that's really what i was asking- if the hatred just went back to McCartney or if it actually goes back before that. of course, most of the Folsom Field horror stories probably have their connections to alcoholic beverages that used to be served in that stadium. combined with CU's rampant hatred for certain opponents and rampant disregard for class among many in the fanbase. as for Woody Paige, Nebraska was NOT the only team/school to get that BS from Woody. Ask the fans most every rival or the occasional playoff opponent of the Broncos or Avs. That kind of trash is just his style, he doesn't necessarily attack the teams themselves but aims at personally offending the state/city where the respective teams reside. Any letter sent by a Husker fan or any fan "correcting" him on his ignorance only inspired him more.
  11. The video link worked last i checked but if you mean the picture links- that happens with Getty's website off and on with outside links. just go to http://editorial.gettyimages.com and do a search. For recent Eric Johnson pics, you'll get a more accurate return if you search for >Eric Johnson Cardinals< BTW, there are quite a few Husker pics on that site as well. going back to about the early '90s i think. including some GREAT pics from the 1995 Orange Bowl that i'd personally never seen before. good stuff, its a great site for any type of photographs, sports or anything else- including some very old historical pics. actually, there's an interesting pic on there taken prior to the CU game in 1994. Here: http://editorial.gettyimages.com/source/se...id=281757&cdi=0 The CU players are wearing a shirt related to the NU game ("LINCOLN 10-29-94") but its impossible to see what else says. It looks to me like a Buffalo in a CU jersey stomping on our field...? Anyone have any idea what is actually on the shirt?!?! I would love to know if anyone possibly remembers.
  12. I'm just the opposite, Jake. I didn't know he was missing from the site but the rating stat does NOT surprise me in the least. More passes gave Dailey more opportunities to miss the receiver plus more opportunities to throw the ball to a player from the other team.
  13. did anyone else have some minor trouble with the video running smoothly? For me, the video frame would freeze at random points but the audio continued with no issues. Either way its better than nothing- I think I'll visit the Giants board more often if their users post stuff like that! As for making the team-- TJ was injured for a couple games i think but reports are that the coaches have been very high on him since last season. From reports in NY papers, it sounds like he's anything but a "bubble" player on the roster. With that said, surprises do happen with cut-downs. As with anything else, we'll find out eventually.
  14. Last week Cardinals' LB Eric Johnson took an INT to the endzone against the Raiders. 35 yards. (Golliday also scored in the game) Getty has a couple pics of EJ's score. This week Giants LB TJ Hollowell took an INT back 22 yards vs the Patriots. Here's a video from the Giants' BBS: http://boards.giants.com/forums/index.php?...81 Coincidentally, both of these guys were undrafted Husker LBs. Major props to 'em both!
  15. I happened upon this in a google search: http://faqs.ign.com/articles/552/552032p1.html. there's a lot of BS on the link but google focused on this: HOUSTON TEXANS (last official update: 30 August 2005) ... HB: Domanick Davis, Jonathan Wells, Tony Hollings, Jammal Lord for anyone who may have this game, which would be last year's version (2K5), PLEASE tell they did not put Lord as a half-back for the Texans on the actual game! While his playing that postion would not a ridiculous assumption, the Texans have never let on that they were grooming him to play any position other than safety. a very minor mistake maybe but it only takes a little research of the NFL rosters and players for the game-makers to get it right. ESPN NFL 2K(insert year here) slogan: If its in our Game, its not necessarily in the Game
  16. they did a mini-coverage part on ESPNews' The Hotlist today. It didn't involve Memorial Stadium (that's probably going to be on Sportcenter). but the ESPNews guy did chat with Tommie Frazier. One of the first questions was how a recruit from Florida ended up at Nebraska. Tommie said he was recruited by Kevin Steele, now the LB coach at FSU. TF said that NU really recruited his family more than just him. They told his parents that they would make sure he graduated, and they'd take care of him. and everything they said would happen for him at Nebraska, ended up happening. a couple gems- not direct quotes mind you but maybe you can get an idea: Q-- "You're now the head coach at uh, how do you pronounce this??" Tommie-- "Doane" Q-- "Nebraska fired a 10-3 (sic) coach... are Husker fans spoiled?" Tommie-- "They're used to winning, so they have a right to be spoiled. And there was a lot more behind the coaching changes than just a win/loss record." amazingly, ESPN is the only place where Solich went 10-3 in his final season. granted, he probably would have ended up beating Michigan State in the bowl game anyway, but the fact is he was 9-3. its not a huge error but its still annoying that ESPN can never seem get that minor detail corrected.
  17. you know, i may send them an email now that you've suggested it. but the last time i sent an email to those people, they were VERY rude in their reply. The fact that my email addy had "huskers" in it, probably didn't help. I had wrote to them that the coverage of western slope teams was pretty poor-- pointing out that the only time a W.Slope team was EVER even mentioned in the Post was when they lost to a Denver-area school. that was it, apparently they took offense to it for some reason and sent back the rudest reply. though this was a few years ago (late 90s or so) and the state-wide coverage seems a little better now.... and then they go and forget the mention a highly touted player just to be safe, I think this time though i may use an email address that doesn't include "huskers".
  18. I prefer defending Coloradoans who are Broncos/Avs/Nuggets/CSU/etc/etc fans. I have seen many instances, mostly on message boards, where my fellow Husker fans will confuse the everyday "Colorado sports fan" or Coloradoans in general with the CU ilk. would it be fair to say the ultra hatred of Nebraska somewhat began with Bill McCartney and was then picked up by the media and CU fans? As for CSU, "overwhelmingly" would be one way to put it. Watching the CU vs CSU hype this week, its almost like CSU is nothing more than CU's little early season rival. Like parents saying "This is our son! (cu)... oh, and this is his little brother, we didn't really intend on having two kids (csu)". It really is amazing what a completely different breed of fan CSU folks are compared to CU. Most CSU fans i know actually love Nebraska. For one thing, we all tend to have a mutual disgust of CU.
  19. http://www.autumnspectacle.com/fans.htm I was at the game so this brings back some happy memories- but I have to say disagree with the premise it makes. In short, I'm curious what folks here think about this as a defense of the BCS/Bowl system. IMO, the article made it sound like the "temporary fans" syndrome- in which one team roots for another in a far away game in hopes that it will improve their team's post-season chances- only happens in college football. as if it couldn't happen in a league with playoffs... well... A couple years ago the Green Bay Packers were on the outside looking in. they needed a hapless sorry franchise in the Arizona Cardinals to beat a good Minnesota Vikings team in order to make the playoffs. As NFL fans they knew it was an unlikely scenario, but as Packer fans, all they had was hope. In the meantime though, the Packers had to win their own game vs Denver. Up by 4 TDs with two minutes remaining in that game, Lambeau Field exploded when it was announced that the Cardinals had scored on the last play of their game to beat Minnesota. almost the same situation as the NU vs KSU story in the article. a crowd lulled by the blowout unfolding in front of them, suddenly rocked by the score announcement of another game. Except, the Packers were in the playoffs and had just as good a chance as several other playoff-bound NFL clubs. While the Huskers were still on the outside looking in. Instead of a chance, we were simply left wondering if we might've been able to beat FSU or VTech HAD WE GOTTEN THE CHANCE. I love College Football and the pagentry and all that makes it special, part of that includes the Bowl games (or at least some of them). but it is possible to keep the Bowl names and locations and fit them into a playoff system. personally I'd take the finalization of a playoff champion over arguing with whiny Michigan and Penn State fans for years when they could've been shut up years ago ON the field.
  20. They took their beer away a few years ago so its not as bad these days. but their still annoying. at least per my experience. you can tolerate "Lawrence Phillips was only suspended for one game", "62-36!!!", and "Huskers Suck!" only so many times. So CSU fans won't show up in Boulder? that's one game. that excuse may apply to CSU fans(?)- but it doesn't give CU fans an excuse for not showing up for the rest of the season except for a couple select games. They had to go Door-to-door selling season tix for god sake! the excuse they usually give, and its my personal favorite, is the "we have other teams to support in Colorado" excuse. You know that one? the one that says CU has to compete with the Denver pro teams for fans? If its a butts-in-the-seats competition then you would assume then that the Denver teams compete with eachother as well. Amazing then, that the Broncos and Avalanche still manage to sell out every game. and throw in the Noogets too. CU just coincidentally happens to be the one left out in the cold for the local sportsfan race.
  21. According to a post over at Scout, ESPN has Nebraska listed as the only school Allen is "serious about". Here's the ESPN Link: http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/...cruitId%3d22688 but of course its ESPN so there's not a lot of info unless you're an "insider" subscriber. not much of an update really but the ESPN page was updated on the 25th, so I was curious if Red or Nameless had heard anything *new* on this kid...?
  22. well, he was cut... from the AP: Running back Dahrran Diedrick was released with an injury settlement.
  23. I'm sorry but if everybody wasn't on the same page, isn't it the responsibility of the coach to make sure everyone understands what the coaches want. I'm not putting all the blame on Cosgrove, maybe some criticism should have been directed at the defensive captains from last year. After all they might have a better understanding of who bought into the system and who didn't. This year I hope the Blackshirts will at least keep us in some games, becuase another loss like Texas Tech and heads are going to roll. you're right, it is the coaches responsibility. but as skers pointed out- who was going to replace these guys? Benching them (as one plausable action) may have only caused more problems, more rifts. what actions could Coz have taken against them that wouldn't have only poured salt into the wound? Now this year, the talk is as if there is no more wound of dissent. And hopefully they- the players AND the coaches- can keep it that way.
  24. 99th pick this year was the KC Chiefs. they picked some guy out of Tennessee. but as it turns out- even the 6th round pick would've been a waste on MC! For what its worth Bronco fans, at least MC made it into training camp. considering the St. Louis Rams selected Incognito about 20 picks earlier and the guy may just end up re-entering the '06 draft. I don't know if that eases any pain or annoyance from the Clarett gamble, but there it is.
  25. The guy may not be nearly as bad as LP was, but the fact that other teams are apparently interested in him before he's even been officially cut only shows the NFL's mentality sure hasn't changed. The USA Today writer that bashed Osborne lamented that he "still didnt' get it". aside from the point that it was way off about Osborne, the article may have been more accurate had he focused on the NFL's lack of "getting it" with some of these players. Take Owens for example. if the Eagles put him up on the trade block you'd have several teams bidding for him immediately. bidding for a cancer. that's right! sorry, not a day 2 pick. since it was the same pick as Demorrio (#101) i was thinking it was still the same round. Never Assume! of course #101 was the 3rd round this year but the 5th pick in the 4th round last year.. Either is still too high for MC. He should have gone "back to school" but his future may be better suited in NFL Europe. I don't even think he'd cut it in the iron-man ways of the AFL.
