I don't think that pertains to having two QBs on the roster that pushes each other.  That's the way every team should be and thank GOD we have that now.

It's what is so frustrating about the QBs constantly transferring if the don't get the starting job.

Completely agree, but what makes it difficult is when the fan base immediately calls for the starter to be pulled after the first 3 and out. At least we won't have fans in the stands and such calls will be confined to Huskerboard this year.

Anyone who’s seen Payne lately could tell that he’s about 250-260. Makes sense. As for Graham..his biggest knock out of high school was his lack of ability to play in space. Always seemed like a tweener. A lot of people thought he didn’t translate well to a 3-4 scheme as an OLB. Seems like an Alex Davis type play to me. Hope he finds success at DE.

I've always kind of thought Graham would end up at DE. Hopefully he can add mass but keep his athleticism and be a force as a pass rusher.

Said he's announcing at the Under Armour game between Nebraska, USC and TCU.

Has already informed all of the schools where he's going and shut down his recruitment.

I haven't seen a bunch of new offers go out from Nebraska on the Dline. Perhaps that is telling. However, it looks like USC only has 1 true DE committed. So, not sure we can really read the tea leaves any which way.

  4. I think we have seen an uptick in recruiting on the O-line recently. Not only based on rankings but in body type (as mentioned above) as well. I think it will be interesting to see Corcoran's development and where he slots in this year and next. He is one of the highest rated recruits but he might be a better fit at guard then tackle (seemed to really thrive at guard in the all-star game). If he does get some pt this year I would anticipate it would be at guard. I project the line will look as follows:

    2020

    LT - Jaimes / Banks / Corcoran

LG - Wilson / Piper (Piper will get a few series a game)

    C - Jurgens / Farniok

RG - Farniok / Hixon or Nouili

    RT - Benhart / Gaylord

    2021

LT - Corcoran / Banks  / (Teddy will redshirt)

    LG - Piper / Lynn

    C - Jurgens / Farniok

    RG - Nouili / Hixson

    RT - Benhart / E. Miller

I disagree on Thompkins and never thought he was as good as Morrison. We will never know since he cannot stay healthy but on no planet did he do what Morrison did in HS. Morrison is also already bulking up with the same speed. Way better player IMO. Scott is coming in already in B10 form as he is jacked city for being a freshman. Johnson is the wild card but I see him more of getting carries time to time with jet sweeps etc.

The Thompkins v Morrision is an interesting topic. Thompkins sure had more hype in high school while Morrison put up historic numbers in Oklahoma.

I tend to see Scott and Morrison's role as more of the typical RB, with Johnson filling a more specialized/situational role (all purpose back/Duck) in a similar manner as Otis Anderson had early in his career at UCF.

This was posted to his recruiting profile, but I think it deserves to be here too. Jaquez Yant. Freshman walk-on.

Wasn't Yant a decent LB in high school as well that had some FCS offers? Hopefully he is able to contribute on special teams and add competition at RB.

Oh I totally agree. My analysis was directed at the OP's thesis which (correct me if I'm wrong, lo country) is that adding Lubick fixes a bunch of problems that we had last year.

My own take on that is that adding Lubick doesn't really fix any of those things to any tangible degree - brining up the young talent and just getting last season under our belts is what will take us forward more than anything.

Obviously there were systemic problems with Walters to the degree that Scott canned him. I'd be remiss to not acknowledge that.

But we need an offensive line that is big, strong, and nasty in the trenches and we just really haven't had that the last four seasons honestly.

I think  you are spot on in prior posts about one major issue was preparation - but if Frost is to be believed in quotes from Spring, then Lubick should fix some of those preparation or organization issues. So I'd disagree that Lubick won't fix issues we had from last year.

    https://247sports.com/college/nebraska/Article/Nebraska-Huskers-football-2020-season-preview-Matt-Lubick-organization--148656076/

From the article: "And as Frost and assistants talked to media after the first day of spring ball in March, just before the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything, the thing that kept coming up at each table about Lubick was how organized he was.

"He definitely improved us in that area already," Frost said. Other assistants echoed the thought."

I doubt seriously that any other team wanted to open with OSU.  If they play up to their potential, they run the table with big blow outs weekly.

If we can stay within 30, that will be a good sign for the future, especially in week one.

We wont have played a game in 11 months. Hardly more than a dozen practices in pads.  7 on 7 drills and wt training is not football game ready.  OSU will be ready.

Frost will have them ready and it will be much closer than 30. Catching OSU week 1 is a blessing in disguise.

  9. Could it also be that he is currently buried on the depth chart? While he was a highly rated recruit and was also told there would be a shot to contribute immediately- he’s likely 3rd or 4th team on the depth chart which is hard for a high 4star to deal with. Honas, Miller, Heinrich, and Reimer are for sure ahead of him right now. Matuga-Clements is also possibly ahead as well.

OR, he was doing his job getting the season ready, hoping for the best based on the idea that we'd have ramped the virus way down by kickoff, only to have the chancellors & presidents pull the rug out from under him after he'd made the big schedule announcement.

The guy who's planning on pulling the plug on the Big Ten season doesn't release the Big Ten schedule the week before. That's career suicide.

He didn't make this decision. It was made for him, and he was told to go present it.

I think the evidence is against you on that based on comments from multiple coaches - and mainly James Franklin and Ryan Day about how the majority of protocols, travel protocols, and planning hadn't been communicated from the league. A bit of revisionist history is present in your post.

I agree, it was career suicide for the Big Ten to pull the plug when it did - and then for him to state that no games could be played by any of the member Universities. That position came directly from him.

The only thing you are correct on is that he did not make the decision to cancel. But he was way more involved then you have articulated.

All right. You've convinced me. Warren orchestrated his plan to cancel the first football season he'd have presided over as the new commissioner of one of the top conferences in the nation. He selectively chose what information to share and he guided conversations to a place where today's reality would be the outcome.

All less than a year after taking this job.

Just one question - why would he do that?

A couple possible explanations. First, a couple Presidents/Chancellors really don't want to play - which have his ear. Second, liability concerns and his attorneys which advise him have recommended against playing. Third, he thought he would be the leading force behind all conference cancelling - thereby establishing himself and stepping out of Delaney's shadow (boy did this backfire). Fourth, the medical evidence he was relying on gave him pause (which after peer review has shown to have some flaws). Fifth, political pressure (as evidenced by Yahoo's June article on attempting to sway the election by the voter registration initiative).

I really think (based on comments which have come out) that he thought the ACC would follow suit and he'd look smart for paving the way on this crucial decision and would look like a visionary in doing so.

It really, really, really does matter. Warren is the messenger, not the decision-maker.

It's like people have never heard the adage, "Don't shoot the messenger."

It's no wonder corporate America is able to advertise so effectively. People just don't get this stuff.

First, Warren is more than the messenger. It's been widely reported he directed the messaging between the Board of Presidents/Chancellors, influenced the vote by the type of evidence/reports that were submitted and considered, leaning on and swaying presidents, and also called the vote to happen when it did.

Second, the outcry against Warren has been his complete mishandling of 'the message.' I really don't think he could have handled this in a worse way. He is in over his head and doesn't have a pulse on all of his constituents and universities (see recent comments about not expecting the outcry that occurred). Similarly, he has attempted to control the messaging, refused to release the data relied upon, and muzzled experts/doctors that were relied upon (the lead expert from UNMC told reporters he wasn't allowed to comment). To call Warren's handling of this situation anything other than an unmitigated disaster is simply irrefutable - no matter which side of the play versus not play side you are on.

My big question is why all P5 conference leaders can't get together and find common ground/compromise so that there is some sort of uniformity on the season?  I don't know how you can have a championship with a whole bunch of different starting and end points.  Maybe Tim Brando was right about having a NCAA Czar?

Do we really want someone who has that kind of power? (See Kevin Warren as a bad example).

  14. Also, I would not be surprised if this was a coordinated effort and move with other parent groups and it was decided that players from other teams do not file suit because the chance of winning in those jurisdictions is not as high due to variety of factors, including laws of the state, political pressures, or allegiances. Similarly, if other players filed suit there is the possibility of split and different decisions (an Ohio court may find differently than a Nebraska court on this issue).

In the legal world this is known as forum shopping.
