  1. What I'd be doing is working with a Masters level Computer Science student trying to build a program that helps build football IQ.

Take the players through scenarios and rules of the game and challenge them.  Gamify what they will see on Saturdays.  Make it fun, but teach them at the same time.

Our Football IQ in Lincoln is terrible right now.  Could be the next Hudl spin off.  We do something similar to this in my current company.  We simulate common scenarios to build awareness and capability.  We are no where near the cutting edge, but there is some pretty interesting stuff out there.

Who would stop them from just playing backyard football on a grass football field like I used to do when I was younger?  The only way coaches find out is if someone gets hurt.

How did these backyard football games you played when you were younger prepare you for  P5 FBS football?  Was it touch?  Helmets only?  Who called plays?  Help with my curiosity.

You may be on to something.  Hoiberg should have his players going to Prairie Life (Genesis) to scrimmage my son and his friends in the summer.

Give me him and Howard and I feel pretty good. If we take just this one we are gonna win 5 games next year.

This tells me the are trying to build a QB room because I don’t see them bringing in this guy to start.  I really hope they bring in two.

Hold onto your pants…..On3 has a whole barrage of good QBs entering the portal.

What percentage of these new arrangements are going to pan out?  You have to figure a chunk of them are going to be a bust.  Maybe not of Sims caliber bust.  I think these kids see Nix, Penix and $'s.

Wisconsin lands a transfer OLB, less than 24 hours he decommits and redirects everyone to his "NIL Agent." Which is a thing that should not exist IMO - I'm all for players having a choice to go somewhere else, but when you have to recruit their agent instead of them? That's crazy. Money can be the biggest factor for a player, that's fine. But it's literally going to be the only factor if you let an agent handle it all, and some guys will regret that.

Tweet from the player was just deleted, but said:

My agent Chris Walsh @TXRecruited will be handling all my official visits and recruitment so anything involving my recruitment please contact him

Dude doesn't want you questioning how much he charges, and also can't be bothered to learn the difference between their and there. Most coach salaries are public information, so go ahead and have your guys ask.

This whole thing is a joke.  It's 100% out of control.

Unless it makes Colorado look bad.  Then I like it.

I think the only way to fix it is to make the athletes actual employees.  That way there can be negotiations on contracts.  You want the big deal?  Sign a 3/4/5 year contract.  Want to bet on yourself?  Go for a one-year contract.  But then at least the schools know who is a free agent each year.

This sounds similar to what Gundy has talked about.  The athlete has almost no skin in the game.  If I'm being fair, it has been the exact opposite forever.

What you're saying makes sense to me.  They would have to create a hard line between NIL and the institution, but saying there isn't one is silly anyway.  I've also wondered about limiting what's available if you transfer, but I think that is too open and would just create more issues.

This $ grab has about ruined college football in my mind.  I don't blame these young men at all for taking advantage of the system as it currently exists, but the system (NIL/portal combination) sucks.  NIL or the portal wouldn't be too bad in isolation but the combination has created an environment that's extremely disappointing.

I think they are going to have to figure out a way to balance NIL and transfer rules.  I don't know that this kind of "free for all" exists anywhere in sports.

In reality, this is how life works.  But even that has gaps.  Often when you're making this type of money there are rules/clauses or even stuff like "non competes".

  8. The score was obviously horrendous, but I’m pretty optimistic after this.  Creighton was hitting bomb 3s.  Nebraska was hitting none.  The Huskers also missed a lot shots close to the hoop.  They did great things to get to hoop, but failed to convert.

I am and will continue to skeptical of KT.  The way he played today is how 85% of his career had been.  Get confident and then start taking terrible shots again and again.

I like the hustle Allick has.  I wish he could score.

It sounds weird given they lost so bad, but I still think they can be decent.

Howard does not seem like a good fit for USC. I think he may be a small

step above a game a manger. He is not a USC level QB.

I think he checks the boxes of what Nebraska needs, but his skill set is different than a lot of the QBs in the portal.  USC seems like a poor match.

We don’t even know what the roster looks like. You legit have 8 months to think about this and repost in early August.

The better question is probably “How many more threads like this will there be before the 2024 season starts?”  With a bonus “Will that count be higher than the win total?”

Glad we visited and gave it an attempt but I highly doubt this is going anywhere. Apparently Lincoln Riley is visiting today.

I might be drinking Koolaid, but has this season normalized Riley a bit?  His body of work is still pretty small and seems to anchored to one QB.  Kinda like Jimbo at this point.

I have mentioned his name a few times in this thread, but check out Kaidon Salter right now on CBS Sports Network. He currently has a 239 passer rating.

I watched part of the game.  Seems to be a leader which is tremendously needed.

Other thing (not related) is Jerry Kill has to be one of the most underrated coaches in football.

The 2022 and 2023 FCS All-American QB’s started their careers at FBS schools according to their school bio’s

I stand corrected.  It does happen.

Edit:  So I looked at this a little more.  One never played FBS.  He was on a team, but didn’t play.  The other looked to have quite a bit of success at Arkansas.

To scope this correctly, my original response was to one of the the worst turnover machines in FBS history could go to a lower level and “dominate”.

I should have been more clear.  A bad QB is not going to be a great QB because the go to a lower division.

The stuff between the ears doesn't necessarily become super easy, but I would argue the physical part is quite different. It should be much easier to elude a rush against South Dakota State.  There's a reason those kids aren't starting for Ohio State.  He can win being more physically gifted at a lower level is what I am getting at, making the mental part less important.

    Doesn’t happen much.

What is more typical is a guy moving up and excelling.  The running back from Missouri or that all purpose guy at Arizona State.  A local example would be Toure.

Don’t hear many going down and dominating stories.  It’s an assumption that rarely pans out.

  15. 8 minutes ago, runningblind said:

It happens much slower though, that's the idea. No guarantee of success, but you have to admit it's easier in FCS or D2.

I suppose the likelyhood of success if solely looking at athletic ability (speed, strength, explosiveness, quickness) would be higher at a lower level.  If you run faster or jump higher I guess it could be an 'easier' playing field.  For example, there's a girl at Wesleyan that ran track and Nebraska.  She transferred and is now a D3 national champion.

Many of the characteristics that make a good QB are skill driven or even between the ears.  Sims issues don't appear to be athletic related.  Because you're in FCS it doesn't all the sudden mean evaluating a defense is easier.  Eluding a rush doesn't become easier because you're playing South Dakota State.

Could also transfer down a level I think - not sure if that's something he would be interested in, but he could dominate and probably have some actual fun playing QB again.

How often does this happen?  Specifically with QBs.

They go down to FCS or D2 and just light the world on fire (dominate).  You're still going to get pressured.  Your receivers are still going to be covered.  You probably still going to throw picks.
