  1. As on many other boards, I offered some unsolicited, uninvited, and perhaps unwelcomed comments but oddly, I've never been made to feel more welcome. I first posted from a desire to "educate" arrogant Husker fans about life outside of Lincoln - that Memorial isn't the only loud stadium in the country, that a small I-AA school too had proud fans, that I-aa can play some good football. It was I who received an education - that despite a justifiable arrogance, Nebraska fans are among the best, most reasonable and polite fans it's been my pleasure to "talk" to. As a group you epitomize what good fans should be. As a quote by HACK on another thread said: And you truly are. I'm probably not going to be around much but I wanted to wish you all the best of luck this season. You've done what your football team couldn't - made a Nebraska fan of me. GO HUSKERS!
  2. Jerry Rice Walter Payton Kurt Warner Rich Gannon etc, etc, etc. You should quit while you're not too far behind. Better to be silent and thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!
  3. Ralph, Don't confuse him (HF66) with facts. ...his mind is made up.
  4. Nameless, You say that the Huskers didn't have enough tape?!?!?! According to this article you don't need tape, you see the Maine defense everyday in practice!! -------------------- rawhide Posted: Sep 1 2005, 05:41 PM I don't really think you were unfairly disadvantaged.....do you?
  5. His comments were reported in a Maine newspaper. The Comments Like I said, You guys can be a classy bunch. Makes it easy to be a Husker fan (or a Husker fan fan )
  6. So much for the "Won't be intimidated, huh? wait till he hears 80,000 husker fans" comments. It appears he still hasn't heard 80,000 screaming huskers. This is a sentiment voiced by more than a few Husker fans, and undoubtedly shared by many more. Maine flew cross country to play in your house. It was their first game too. They played you straight-up and gave you a good game. Husker fans have shown that they can be a pretty classy bunch......Instead of excuses, why not just give them their due. Thanks, Shadow.
  7. I think the best game at Washington Grizzly stadium this year will be Oct. 15 against EWU. Eastern Washington was a playoff team last year (upsetting the number 1 seed) and is picked by coaches and media to win the Big Sky conference ahead of the Griz. Montana beat EWU last season (at their house) by blocking a game ending field goal attempt. The first conference game before the EWU game will be homecoming (Oct. 1st.) vs Weber State (a bottom dweller)...not likely to be as interesting a game but since it is homecoming it might make getting a ticket difficult. In fact getting a ticket to any of the games could prove difficult beforehand (always sold out). sometimes you can buy from a student who'd rather have the money than the ticket but that is very speculative. If you are able to secure a ticket, you'll probably be treated to some beautiful fall weather, but no guarantees - it can get chilly this time of year (Jacket weather). Usually however, mid October is very nice. BTW: At the tailgates, let anyone know you came up from Nebraska to watch a Griz game in person - You'll find Griz fans to be a pretty hospitable bunch.
  8. Hey, Another Husker-Griz connection. Jake McCarthy
  9. And when visitor tickets were sold out (assuming an insufficient allocation), we'd be contacting your ticket office to buy general seating tickets. We travel well. BTW: How many visitor seats are usually allocated in Memorial (or does that depend on the opponent?)
  10. And thanks to you Husker fans; You countered our indignation without rancor. You're a class bunch.
  11. I'm certain that the Maine player meant no disrespect and am in fact flattered that he was so impressed with the noise at Washington Griz stadium. I certainly am not one to disrespect the storied tradition of Husker football (in fact when I think of college football rivalries, it's not USC-ND, Mich-OSU or Fu-FSU that first comes to mind - It's Nebraska-Oklahoma). However, The implication that the Washington Griz experience is good preparation for Memorial stadium may be closer to the truth than one might imagine. To state or imply that 23000 fans can produce as much volume as 70000 fans is indeed ridiculous, this is objectively unassailable. The subjective experience however is a different matter. Sound by its nature is omnidirectional and subject to such environmental influence as wind, heat, and enclosure (size, shape, and composition) design. Much of the sound volume generated in Memorial stadium rises and dissipates in the air above and outside of the stadium. Any acoustic volume rising above Washington Griz is reflected off of the surrounding mountains and directed back into the parabolic enclosure of the stadium and focused on the field (focal point). In real numbers - measured volume at the Maine game was 115db (not our loudest - That's reserved for the "Brawl of the wild") By comparison: During an LSU game in 2003 sound levels were recorded at 122 decibels. it is of note that the crowd size for that game was 92,131. Your average hard rock concert measures 120 dB. According to the Guinness Book of World Records (2003), the loudest crowd noise at a football game was 128.7 dB, recorded at Mile High Stadium in Denver during a Broncos game. The point is that both venues (Memorial & WaGriz) are LOUD. As a point of reference consider: Points of Reference *measured in dBA or decibels 0 The softest sound a person can hear with normal hearing 10 normal breathing 20 whispering at 5 feet 30 soft whisper 50 rainfall 60 normal conversation 110 shouting in ear 120 thunder The difference in "on field" volume is equivalent to a whisper at 5 feet....relatively inconsequential. Experts agree that continued exposure to noise above 85 dBA over time, will cause hearing loss. ..... At 110 dBA, the maximum exposure time is one minute and 29 seconds. In other words, after 90 seconds it probably sounds about the same -Just LOUD! Anyway, Best of luck this year.
