The only change would possibly be the addition of a few more runing plays and terminology as Nebraska can install the same offense half the country runs, balanced attack like Michigan. I wouldn't mind seeing a guy like Braylon Edwards on Nebraska's sidelines. Of course we need to give the new staff time, riiiiiiight. Even if they finish 6-5 it's a disaster. Where's the improvement from 5-6? One game, well we can rehash 2004 over and over and over again, but until Billy C shows he can coach an entire game the jury is still out. Recruit your eyes out Billy because if you can't coach you won't have a job.

I absolutely did say that. I just have a general distaste for Rose. I guess it sounds as if he's coming off as a phony. I know he knows his stuff, but it would be nice if he would actually to try and improve his game calling. Down, distance, score, time and type of play. I know last season he kept calling a short screen or dump pass to Ross an out pass.

I think most of you are missing my point. I'm not talking about teams like 93-99, they were the fruits of an age of NU football I'm afraid we'll never see again. I'm not going to get in to the semantics of how many guys were drafted in said year, but let's look at it like this, in 1985 the starting qb was Travis Turner. Not your biggest playmakers at a key position to run a multiple offense. They then go to McCarthorn Clayton, faster but the same results and finally rely on Steve Taylor to lead the team for the next 3 years There were plenty of times in the 70's it was the same way. All I'm saying is that there were plenty of years Nebraska was an average football team and their coaching is what made them great. Last season, I think is a perfect example of not coaching to strengths of the talent they had. I'm somewhat optimistic, but if Callahan continues to not adjust his gameplan and the defense decides to lay down, this "We will not surrender to the Oklahoma's and Texas's of the world" experiment is doomed.

I respectfully disagree. There were many teams coached by Tom Osborne where it was pure coaching and not talent. They weren't the fastest, they weren't the top rated, but they won. There were plenty of years Nebraska had no business winning 9 games and yet it was done every season undere Osborne. Obviously, Tom is gone as is his loyal and easily thrown under the bus assistant Frank. The game hasn't changed that much from 2001 when everyone thought Nebraska was the c**k of the walk before Colorado. I think consistent, thoughtful and prepared coaching will take out talented teams more often than most people think. I use as my example the list of qb's between Steve Taylor and Tommie Frazier...

You might need to learn the same thing that Coach Callahan needs to learn: Nebraska doesn't play in the NFL. No they don't. But the players in the NFL have to come from somewhere, don't they? More players taken in the first round when the Huskers ran the option/multiple set offense with a slight emphasis on qb run and the power game. I guess this is where we agree to disagree. The option is clearly not dead, please reference Virginia Tech, Minnesota, Texas, Kansas St (And before anyone jumps me, look at last season) and Utah. Seems to me, 3 of these teams played in a BCS bowl last year. The WCO will take a lot more time than one season to implement. Everyone says NU was depleted in talent, didn't they have quite a few guys selected on Sunday that were recruited by Frank and his staff?

Honestly, I'm not sure what games you're listening to because Rose is so busy telling us about the Eagle from Central or Indian/Patriot from Millard South that we have no clue what's going on until the play is almost over. I have a very difficult time following the game when Jim does a game. I listened to the Kansas St game last year and there were numerous times I had to turn to the person I was with and ask what down it was. As for his baseball, I will leave that for another day, especially when he decided three + years ago to compare the Nebraska baseball team to the Duke Bluedevils in basketball. Come on that's about as homer as it gets. Give me Gary Sharp any day on the diamond.

See this is really what I don't get. The coaches on many occasions have said how dissapointing last year was. Even after the KSU game Callahan said he accepted total reponsibility for what happened on the field. But that doesn't get through for some reason or is not good enough. You're right it isn't good enough. To get blasted by a team like KSU last season, when NU was glaringly better is pathetic. Look what their 2nd string qb did to the defense. I know players have to play, but have them ready to defend an offense that was run by your team for the better part of 20 years. Are you neglecting the loss against SMiss or TTech? Those were about as bad as I can remember. Outyard the first by double and get 70 torched on you by the second. They were behind, but at what point do you get out of the 3-4 and stop throwing the ball for fear of a 6th turnover inside the 20? That's what I mean. Iowa St is another example. They could've run the ball all day and I mean all day, instead Callahan called for about 40 passes. Colorado, instead of running the ball to setup a fg to end the half, they go back to pass and get a sack and then pass twice to no avail. It's a bit of both, but the coaching last season was atrocious. I can only hope they learned over the off-season.

I would give anything to dig old Lyle from the grave and have him announce for the Huskers again. The only thing that can be done is to bring back Pavelka. We need to bring back Kent. Rose is silly. He is a mouthpiece for the University and has no real grasp on calling a football game. I grow weary of hearing about the Pierce Bluejay or the Mustang from Millard North. Kent may not have been the greatest, but he's the lesser of 2 or 3 evils, the Red head from Lincoln SE.

Really? It was great to see Joe Dailey toss the ball 35-45 times when even a 5 year old knew his arm and accuracy weren't up to the task. I know where the West Coast Offense came from and I liken what Nebraska runs to a Fun N Gun all glitz no guts. If there was some sort of power running game within this offense, I may have a change of heart, but from what was seen last year, not running plays to fit your team is ridiculous. You call it hogwash, I call it tradition. 40 years without a losing record all for the glory of recruiting. You may be right, I don't know players or coaches personally, so I shouldn't speak if they are or aren't disappointed in 2004. I will speak for myself as an alum of UNL and a life long fan, pure and utterly embarassing. Where were all these people to support Frank when he went under .500. That's right he didn't.

Seriously, I have quite a few problems with our AD and the coaching staff. They've certainly shown they can recruit. Can they coach and can they lead? After last season they have quite a bit to prove. 5-6 is unacceptable. I guess giving Frank another season to try and right the ship with his own coaching staff after an improvement in 2003 and toss away all tradition with the firing in November 2003 is just fine by you. 40 years of hard work by players & coaches tossed down the toilet, nice job of implementing a system to not fit your players Keep being blinded by the sunshine coming from the South Stadium. The West Coast offense is the 2000 version of the Fun N Gun. Rememer what the hard nosed Nebraska team did to Florida. Oh, did I forget to mention that was a multiple option offense with a qb run game that scored quite a few points. Forget it we need the 3 step drop back, not a kid like Frazier, Frost or Crouch.
