    Looks like Italy isn't going to qualify for the World Cup. Gian Piero Ventura might get fired before Mike Riley.

      They can join us, Chile, Netherlands, and Ghana in a NIT tournament this summer.

      Thank goodness my other two rooting interests (Germany and England) both qualified.

      Wow, that's brutal. Am I understanding it correctly?...it seems mostly like pretty bad luck. They drew the same UEFA group as Spain and finished 2nd. That meant they had to go to a playoff (whereas the US could've finished 3rd, or was it 4th, in all of CONCACAF). Two bad results and they're done, and by two it was really just "lose 1-0 in the first game and fail to beat Sweden by at least two goals in the second".

       

      Qualifying for the WC is actually hard in some regions, eh? Italy would've dominated the heck out of several other UEFA groups.
