Fan day this Saturday at Memorial Stadium

Recommended Posts

Has anyone gone to this in past years? Is it worth it? Sounds like a good opp to get up and close with the coaches and players. Pretty cool tradition.

Football Fan Day Set for Saturday

Release: 08/19/2004

The University of Nebraska Athletic Department will host its annual football Fan Day at Memorial Stadium, on Saturday, Aug. 21 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Fans will be admitted into the stadium at 1 p.m. and players and coaches will be available to sign autographs and greet fans until meetings at 2:30 p.m. The 1 ½ hour time provides ample opportunity to obtain autographs, however it is not realistic to assume that signatures of all the players and coaches can be attained in this time period.

All 105 of the early reporting players will be seated in designated areas around and in the stadium. All players and coaches will be seated on the Memorial Stadium field, including Coach Bill Callahan in the South end zone. Single-file lines will be enforced and fans will be limited to one signature (one item) per player or coach. Photos may be taken with the players as long as they are allowed to keep signing for other fans. For seating locations of all players and coaches, see the attached diagram which is also available on Huskers.com.

The three available outside gates will be open to admit fans into the stadium. Fans wanting to get into line for quarterbacks, receivers and linebackers should enter Gate #3 on the Southwest corner of the stadium. Fans wishing to get in line for running backs, tight ends and kickers should enter on the southeast corner (Gate #24), while fans wanting to get in line for the defensive linemen, secondary and offensive linemen should enter through Gate #11 on the northwest corner of the stadium. Six gates will be open on the field (each corner and one on each sideline). A complete numerical roster will be available at each gate with the back side blank with room for autographs.

The Nebraska Sports Information Office would like to remind fans that Saturday is intended to be a fun day for children. Fans are asked to limit their autograph items to one per player/coach and to please adhere to the safety of youth in attendance by forming single-file lines up to each table and not to push or shove. Players will be escorted off the field promptly at 2:30 p.m.

Concession vendors will walk throughout the stadium and under the concourses selling cold drinks. Huskers Authentic will have two kiosks open in the stadium, one near Gate #24 in the southeast corner and one near Gate #11 on the northwest end of the stadium. The Huskers Authentic stands will sell Nebraska merchandise, including posters, media guides, hats and t-shirts available for sale. Huskers Authentic will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday for fans wishing to purchase additional Husker items.

A childhood buddy of mine used to take me to these. Back then (mid-Osborne years), it was pretty informal. Looks like it's turned into quite a circus. Worth the trip...good to put faces with the names on the back of the jersey. A no brainer for anyone with kids...this is what got me into husker football back in my younger years.
