Blackshirt Posted August 27, 2004 Share Posted August 27, 2004 NU Practice Notes August 27, 2004 Good bill of health: Despite a cast on the hand of offensive lineman Darren DeLone, the Huskers have still been practically injury-free thus far. NU Defensive Coordinator Kevin Cosgrove called DeLone’s hand “just a cast,” and that everything was fine. “We’ve been a pretty healthy team so far,” Cosgrove said. “I consider ourselves pretty fortunate.” Tight race at end: The battle between senior Benard Thomas and sophomore Jay Moore is red-hot for the starting defensive end position. Thomas, who lost his starting job last season, has made tremendous progress according to Cosgrove. Moore has played just as well, and has a legitimate shot at becoming a starter in his second year. Cosgrove gave no indication as to when the starter will be named. “It has been a great battle between those two,” Cosgrove said. “Both are playing very well. There’s going to be a tough decision that’s going to have to be made there.” Muy getting used to other side: Freshman Danny Muy has made some progress in his new position of defensive lineman.
