NU Practice Notes

August 27, 2004

Good bill of health: Despite a cast on the hand of offensive lineman Darren DeLone, the Huskers have still been practically injury-free thus far. NU Defensive Coordinator Kevin Cosgrove called DeLone’s hand “just a cast,” and that everything was fine.

“We’ve been a pretty healthy team so far,” Cosgrove said. “I consider ourselves pretty fortunate.”

Tight race at end: The battle between senior Benard Thomas and sophomore Jay Moore is red-hot for the starting defensive end position.

Thomas, who lost his starting job last season, has made tremendous progress according to Cosgrove. Moore has played just as well, and has a legitimate shot at becoming a starter in his second year.

Cosgrove gave no indication as to when the starter will be named.

“It has been a great battle between those two,” Cosgrove said. “Both are playing very well. There’s going to be a tough decision that’s going to have to be made there.”

Muy getting used to other side: Freshman Danny Muy has made some progress in his new position of defensive lineman.

Muy, who was recruited to play offense, was switched over earlier this summer.

“We wanted to take a look at him on defense,” Cosgrove said. “He’s a work in progress, and we’ve been watching his development closely.”
