Blackshirt
NU Practice Notes August 30, 2004 Light workout: Nebraska practiced in helmets and shorts for an hour and a half Sunday morning in preparation for Saturday’s season opener against Western Illinois. The day capped a good weekend of practices for the Cornhuskers, Offensive Coordinator Jay Norvell said. “(Sunday) we were just covering some situations that we needed to cover – some base things versus Western Illinois,” Norvell said. “It was a real positive weekend for us.” Dress rehearsal: Although Sunday was a light workout, the Huskers treated Saturday like a game day. The players took the field wearing game jerseys while the some of the coaches were up in the press box booths. The goal was to simulate what the players and coaches will experience against Western Illinois. “Today was a good dry run,” NU Coach Bill Callahan said. “We got a lot of things accomplished from a game day perspective. I think that it is important for our players to go out to see logistically how everything is going to be done. The players got acclimated to the routine, to the pre-game and to the halftime. They know exactly what to expect when we tee it up a week from today.” Day off today: After practicing for six straight days and 20 of the past 21 days, the Huskers will get a break today. With the off day, Norvell said the coaches would be finalizing their game planning. “We’re going to go back and watch tape,” he said. “It’s a day off for our players, but we like them to come in and watch tape when they get a chance and really zero in on the opponent.” Bring ‘em on: After spending the past three weeks practicing against each other, the Huskers are ready for some new blood, Norvell said. “Now it’s time to play,” he said. “At this time, you’re pretty much stale on practicing. Our guys really don’t want to practice any more. They really need an opponent. After awhile, things get monotonous on a practice field and you need a focus to keep your edge. And Western Illinois is our focus.” Norvell said the Huskers haven’t placed much focus on the Leathernecks until now. The players can get stale on the opponent if they start focusing on an upcoming game too soon, he said. --Compiled by Staff Writer Vince Kuppig http://www.dailynebraskan.com/vnews/displa...0/4132949d6ca97 Quote Link to comment
