slacker
Irregular News for 11.30.06 Melbourne, Australia -- A Melbourne bride who stole more than $123,000 from a trade union to pay off the debt from her extravagant wedding avoided jail when she was sentenced today. Julianne Mitrovska, 21, of Taylors Hill in Melbourne's west, was working for the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union when she began siphoning union memberships, including a $118,000 membership from Toyota, into her own account. Victorian County Court Judge William White today sentenced Mitrovska to a one-year jail term, fully suspended, and ordered her to complete 250 hours of community work. "Consider yourself fortunate," he told her. Judge White said Mitrovska planned an extravagant wedding for 500 guests, which her traditional Greek Orthodox parents could not fully afford. She owed more than $50,000 for her share of the wedding costs and borrowed more money, spiralling into a debt of more than $100,000. Mitrovska had pleaded guilty to eight charges of obtaining financial advantage by deception. Her crimes occurred between January and April this year and were uncovered in May when the union discovered it had not received Toyota's payment. source Quote Link to comment
BornNBredRed
One year seems pretty lax regarding the fact she committed fraud resulting in over $100,000 in stolen money. Probably won't look too good on the ole resume. Quote Link to comment
