TX Husker
Latest update - Pelini is still the favorite for the job but is tied up with SP over some material contract issues such as a buyout clause. Hopefully that issue will work itself out. Urban Meyer hit a road block with current coaches because SP wants to keep some of them and Meyer of course wants to hand pick his own staff. Rich Rodriguez appears to be a dead issue at this point because of his own contract buyout that would cost the Huskers between 500k and 2 million. Gill appears to not be much of an option. Remember not to believe everything you read. There are NFL coaches saying that they are not interested when in fact they probably are. Remember that Pelini did that last year and look where he is now. Latest info still shows a good possibility for an announcement tomorrow at the scheduled press conference. Recruits are being told that they will know who the coach is prior to their visits this weekend and this weekend will be a doozie recruiting wise. Stay tuned and GO BIG RED! Quote Link to comment
Blackshirt
I know reading into things isnt the most effective form of speculation, but I dont have any better ideas. Would be very surprised if Cowher left the NFL, but he hasnt been on the best of terms with Pitt lately - and remember when Trev said we will probably be shocked at who he nabs. Wouldnt put it past him. The one thing that stood out about his interview was the fact that he said the "rumors have no substance". Thats not saying "they arent true" which would have completely diffused the rumor. No substance means they shouldnt have anything "official" to base that on, not that it isnt a possibility. I imagine Steve may have contacted or had his people put out "feelers" for several big name NFL coaches. Remember, he really wants to redeem himself in our eyes, and seemed to be pretty confident that he could. We will see....... Quote Link to comment
