ohiohusker
Ok..Raise your hands. How many of you even knew there were words to this one? After listening to it with words (For the 1st time) they need to shorten the last line. I 1st thought you meant the Dear Old Nebraska U (There Is No Place Like Nebraska) There is no place like Nebraska,Dear old Nebraska U. Where the girls are the fairest, The boys are the squarest, Of any old school that I knew. There is no place like Nebraska, Where they're all true blue. We'll all stick together, In all kinds of weather, For dear old Nebraska U. Still got my "Sidetrack" T-Shirt with the lyrics Wish I could see that BK commercial with Tom Osborn Singing it. I knew the words! I think we learned it in grade school.........years ago! Quote Link to comment
HalfHusker
I contacted the music department, and the Staff Secretary of Bands Emailed me the music to "Hail Varsity" that they had in piano arrangement. I now know how the words go with the music! She also told me that "Dear Old Nebraska" is what is played after TDs, so I'm learning both songs. I have them down pretty good now. I've never been to a home game (it is one of my life's goals - wish me luck!) so I just don't know the football routines. My alma mater has it's regular fight song, and we have "Hail To The Chippewa". I think it's really cool that our two schools have both a fight song and a "Hail" song! Wish we could've done better against KU...<sigh> Quote Link to comment

HalfHusker
Wow I do so appreciate this! I'm re-noting the piano arrangement that the Sec'y of bands emailed me to match the current version of "Hail Varsity" part of your problems may be because that version cited above isn't what matches what I have sung: Hail to the Team, Hail to the Scarlet and Cream, Cheers for a victory, Echo our loyalty, So on mighty men, We're gonna triumph again, Fight on for Victory, Hail to the men of Nebraska U. I am in the Men's Choir at UNL and that's kinda our song, so I'll see if I can find our music or a recording of us. There are many versions of this song. Quote Link to comment

Jarred04
Why yes, yes I do. I did know the words, and yes I sing it every time after a win, and if we don't win, I sing it while crying into a beer. Quote Link to comment
HalfHusker
In listening to the Band's version and the Men's Choir version, Jarred, I can hear that some of the notes are different between what the Band plays and what you guys sing. So interesting to learn there are various versions out there! I like the tune to "Hail Varsity" very much...almost as much as my own fight song, "The Fighting Chippewa" http://www.alumni.cmich.edu/images/fights.mp3 Wow I do so appreciate this!
