GAME OF THE WEEK...

Virginia at (8) Virginia Tech

Two in-state rivals get together on Saturday. Though the game is always intense, that will especially be the case this week with so much on the line for both teams.

A win on Saturday for Virginia Tech would be the Hokies' seventh in a row since losing to NC State in late September. Coach Frank Beamer's team has made huge strides throughout the season, as shown to a national audience last Thursday night on ESPN. VT hammered a Maryland team that has been one of the most consistent in the ACC for the past several years. RB Mike Imoh has been a major boost to the team. The junior is averaging 98 yards a game on the ground and nearly 5 yards per carry. QB Bryan Randall is trying to play more consistently and has better than a two-to-one ratio in touchdowns to interceptions this season.

Virginia, meanwhile, can still gain a share of the ACC title if they can knock off the Hokies on the road. The Cavs, however, have not played great against the ACC's best competition. In mid-October, Florida State hammered UVA 36-3 in Tallahassee, and earlier this month, Miami beat the Cavaliers by ten points on their home field. QB Wali Lundy gets the job done on offense. He has scored 16 touchdowns this season and gets five yards per carry.

Both teams average over 30 points a contest, and both defenses are in the top three in the ACC. The difference, however, is the ability of VT's defense to create turnovers and make the big play. Seventeen times this season the Hokies have intercepted the opponent, and it has gone to the house four of those times. To compare, Virginia has just nine interceptions this season and has returned none for six points.

With a chance at the outright ACC title on the line on their home field, the Hokies get the job done on senior day in Blacksburg.

THE WEEK'S OTHER TOP MATCHUPS...

West Virginia at Pittsburgh

ESPN opted to make this the national telecast on Thanksgiving night, but the implications aren't as big as hoped. The Mountaineers must win and hope for a Boston College loss to win the Big East title outright and make a trip to the BCS.

The Editor Says: West Virginia

Texas A&M at (6) Texas

It doesn't get much bigger than this in the Lone Star State. Though Texas is ranked fifth in the BCS and is clearly one best teams in the nation, it's likely the Longhorns will be left out of the BCS. Still, it's the Aggies, and the game is in Austin.

The Editor Says: Texas

Missouri at Iowa State

If you haven't been paying attention, you would be shocked to learn that Iowa State has control of their own destiny in the Big XII North and is likely to represent that division in the conference title game. A win here clinches that.

The Editor Says: Iowa State

Oklahoma State at Texas Tech

These are two of the biggest offenses in the Big XII, and they hook up in Lubbock on Saturday afternoon. Both teams can help their bowl positioning with victories one last time before the selections are made in the coming weeks.

The Editor Says: Oklahoma State

Notre Dame at (1) Southern Cal

Ty Willingham has done a good job at Notre Dame this season with a very tough schedule. That slate concludes with this week's game at USC, and the task hasn't been tougher all year. A win vaults the Trojans into the Orange Bowl.

The Editor Says: Southern Cal

COULD BE INTERESTING...

Bowling Green at Toledo

The winner finishes tied with NIU in the MAC West. If it's the Rockets, they go to the league championship game.

The Editor Says: Toledo

Colorado at Nebraska

The Buffaloes have already got six wins, but NU must win this game to reach bowl eligibility.

The Editor Says: Nebraska

(11) LSU at Arkansas

After winning at Mississippi State last week, the Hogs need this last one to go bowling.

The Editor Says: Arkansas

Arizona State at Arizona

Mike Stoops has the program on the right track, but ASU and Andrew Walter have things going right now.

The Editor Says: Arizona State

Wake Forest at Maryland

It appeared last Thursday that the Terps had totally quit. Will they rebound for senior day?

The Editor Says: Wake Forest

Syracuse at Boston College

The Eagles are in control of their BCS chances and can secure that berth with a win.

The Editor Says: Boston College

Georgia Tech at (10) Georgia

Both teams will be bowling this winter, but this game could change their respective destinations.

The Editor Says: Georgia

Cincinnati at (7) Louisville

The Bearcats are playing as well as anyone in CUSA, but the Cards are one of the nation's best teams.

The Editor Says: Louisville

Mississippi State at Mississippi

Hatred describes this contest, but both teams have struggled this season. How does Croom fare in round one of the Egg Bowl?

The Editor Says: Mississippi

UTEP at Tulsa

The Miners have performed outstandingly in Mike Price's first season and will finish off the campaign with another victory.

The Editor Says: UTEP

UAB at Southern Miss

The Eagles are in a downward spiral, while the Blazers could take sole possession of second place in CUSA with a win.

The Editor Says: UAB

(14) Boise State at Nevada

Though they won't head to the BCS, a victory would give the Broncos an undefeated regular season record.

The Editor Says: Boise State

Northwestern at Hawaii

The Wildcats will be bowling for a second straight year, but this trip will be more fun than their bowl destination.

The Editor Says: Northwestern
