Herian has surgery on wrist

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Already on the mend for a broken leg, Nebraska tight end Matt Herian also required surgery to repair a broken bone in his right wrist.

The injuries were suffered simultaneously in the Oct. 30 game against Missouri, football trainer Doak Ostergard said Tuesday.

Herian underwent wrist surgery Nov. 20. The junior from Pierce had surgery the night of the game to insert a screw and rod in his leg.

The wrist injury shouldn't hinder Herian's recovery from the broken tibia and fibula in his left leg, Ostergard said.

Herian was the Cornhuskers' leading receiver at the time of his injuries, with 24 catches for 308 yards.

Coach Bill Callahan has said he expects Herian to be back for spring practice.
