New NCAA academic policy: How does NU stack up?

Those damn tennis players... bringing us down.

With the unveiling of the NCAA’s new academic reform policy Monday, Nebraska registered an Academic Progress Rate of 927, two points above the 925 minimum.

Only two of NU’s 23 athletic teams listed in the report scored below 925, and none of its women’s teams were listed as at-risk

The only two programs that showed substantial needs for improvement were baseball and men’s tennis, with scores of 862 and 825, respectively.

In a report by the NCAA, about 51 percent of all Division I institutions would have at least one team subject to penalty.

While the percentages are somewhat skewed between the larger and smaller sports, Nebraska officials said they expect both sports to make the necessary adjustments to raise their scores

....

One of the brightest spots for NU was the score posted by the volleyball team.

With a score of 1,000, the Cornhusker volleyball team ranks as one of 30 Big 12 Conference athletic teams to record a perfect score.

Missouri and Kansas led all Big 12 schools with five perfect team scores, and Baylor registered the highest overall total with 960.

Texas A&M and Oklahoma State’s athletic programs both failed to meet the 925 minimum – the Aggies scored a 922 and the Cowboys posted a league-worst 920.
