Former Huskers eye title

BY RICH KAIPUST

WORLD-HERALD BUREAU

LINCOLN — Eight former Nebraska football players were preparing for the AFC and NFC semifinals this weekend, but maybe none more in the spotlight than No. 55 on the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles will have to stop the New York Giants' running game with middle linebacker Stewart Bradley in the thick of the defensive effort.

The second-year pro and first-year starter is Philadelphia's leading tackler with 108 (86 solo). The Eagles finished the regular season as the NFL's fourth-ranked rushing defense, allowing 92.2 yards per game.

Bradley recently was named to the SI.com All-Pro team by Peter King, who called the 2007 third-round draft pick "the ideal sideline-to-sideline rover for defensive coordinator Jim Johnson's unpredictable scheme. Bradley is 25 and relatively unknown, and his club can't prosper without him."

Especially at noon CST against the defending champions.

New York rushed for 219 yards, 126 by Brandon Jacobs, in a 36-31 win at Philadelphia on Nov. 9. The Giants then managed just 88 when the Eagles won 20-14 in New York on Dec. 7.

Philadelphia also will use former NU I-back Correll Buckhalter against New York.

In today's other game, former Husker Ryon Bingham will back up San Diego starters at both defensive tackle and defensive end when the Chargers play at Pittsburgh at 3:45 p.m.

On Saturday, Arizona cornerback Ralph Brown intercepted a pass for the second straight week in the NFC playoffs as the Cardinals hammered Carolina 33-13.

Baltimore advanced to the AFC championship game by beating Tennessee 13-10 with help from cornerback Fabian Washington making seven tackles and Sam Koch punting eight times for a 42.8-yard average. Koch had ranked seventh among NFL punters during the regular season with a 45.0 average. Titans defensive end Kyle Vanden Bosch, still recovering from December groin surgery, was credited with one tackle.
