huskernation20
Full Article NU vs KSU set for a Thursday night By STEVEN M. SIPPLE / Lincoln Journal Star Friday, Jan 29, 2010 - 10:49:36 am CST For the second straight year, the Nebraska football team will open Big 12 Conference play with a Thursday night road game, Husker officials announced Friday. Nebraska's contest at Kansas State has been moved from Saturday, Oct. 2, to Thursday, Oct. 7 to accommodate an ESPN national telecast, the network announced on Friday. Kickoff time will be determined at a later date. ESPN reportedly had asked Texas and Nebraska to move their Oct. 16 game to Thursday night, Oct. 14. However, Texas traditionally has declined to move games to Thursday, outside of Thanksgiving, because of concerns about the players missing too much class. An agreement between ESPN, the Big 12 Conference, Kansas State and Nebraska allowed the game to be moved for the popular Thursday night package. "We are very excited to return to Manhattan for our first Thursday night game since 1992," said Dave Brown, ESPN vice president of programming. "Nebraska and Kansas State have given us many great games over the years on ABC and ESPN and we thank both schools and the Big 12 Conference for scheduling this game on Thursday night." Nebraska's move of the Kansas State game to Thursday night gives the Huskers open Saturdays on Oct. 2 and Oct. 9. In addition to making an ESPN Thursday night appearance for the second straight year, it will mark Nebraska's sixth overall ESPN Thursday night game, all on the road. Nebraska is a perfect 5-0 in those games, picking up wins at Missouri in 2009, at Southern Miss in 2003, at Oklahoma State in 1993 and 1995 and at Texas Tech in 1994. The 2010 season also will mark the second straight season the Nebraska-Kansas State matchup will be nationally televised by ESPN. Last year's game in Lincoln that decided the Big 12 North title was televised in a Saturday prime time window on ESPN. Nebraska played three games on ESPN last season, defeating Arizona in the Holiday Bowl in addition to the wins over Kansas State and Missouri. Nebraska opens its 2010 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 against Western Kentucky in Lincoln. Additional television information for the 2010 season will be available at a later date. Quote Link to comment
