So from all players that were in a recruiting class or walked on from 2002-2007, who would be in your top 10?

I think Niles deserves a place. He is going to have a monster senior campaign. WR, KR, PR and should be drafted in the first 3 rounds.

obviously, it's too early to judge some of the guys that are still playing. in particular, keith williams, mike mcneill, pierre allen, ricky henry and even zac lee have a chance to move up. i also think prince, helu, niles and crick have already shown plenty, but could move even higher.

crick - fantastic season, even taking the suh factor into account

purify - true weapon, under-utilized

hagg - rare athlete that can play WLB and cover at a fairly high level.

niles - another year like last and he's on the list.

dillard - one outstanding year. probably should be on the list.

helu - ditto. staying healthy would really move him up.

Good list. If Henery were just an All-American caliber placekicker, I don't think I would have placed him so high. Him being an All-American caliber punter as well sealed the deal though. Between field goals and punts inside the 10, he's easily contributed just as much (if not more) toward our wins as anybody else on the list. Herian seems a bit low as well (for me anyway). He had very good years in 2002 and 2004, but was outstanding in 2003. He was one of the best tight-ends in the country, being named one of eight semi-finalists for the John Mackey award. My next ten would be:

Zack Bowman has to be in that conversation. I know his contributions were limited by injuries, but he was one of the few Blackshirts in that 07 class who deserved the name Blackshirt because he saw the product on the field and turned his Blackshirt in. Be honest, how many of us would have the guts to do that, knowing we would pay a price for it? All that not withstanding that he had major talent that was misused. If malfeasance was a crime in coaching, Bowman would be the dictionary example of it. I'm still pissed how that kid was coached down.

good points on henery and herian. nice call on bradley, too. i missed him going through the recruiting classes and would definitely have had him higher.

 

as far as zac bowman, i'm happy he's found success, and he was a quality player for us at times, but he didn't make that big of an impact at NU on the field.
