Nexus
Horrible news. Hope the kids pulls through. Heading into the summer, outside linebacker/defensive end Jamel Turner was one of the top defensive recruits in America. He has signed to play for Ohio State for the upcoming football season. Saturday evening, however, Turner was reportedly shot multiple times in Youngstown, Ohio. He is presently listed in critical condition at Saint Elizabeth's hospital. Unfortunately, Turner wasn't the only victim in the shooting. A 17-year-old girl, Tracy Banks, also suffered multiple gunshot wounds and did not survive. Details are still sketchy, but police believe the shooter was Banks' boyfriend, a man named Melvin Shaw. The Youngstown Vindicator is reporting there still hasn't been an arrest made and that Turner was the one who called 911 -- after the shooting that reportedly occurred at 3:23 a.m. Saturday. Turner has reportedly had a troubled upbringing and this marks the second time he's been shot since April, as he was slightly injured in a drive-by shooting in Youngstown while a passenger in a car containing drugs and guns. Turner was expected to join the Buckeyes in the summer, but those plans presently take a backseat to his well being. Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel has released the following statement: "I'm so sad to hear of Jamel's misfortune. I have not communicated with Jamel, but am certainly praying for him at this time." Captain K
Who hates Ohio St? I thought they learned from the Maurice Clarett thing though? Sounds as if they would be inviting trouble signing him. Hope he pulls through and then gets his life in order. Quote Link to comment
