Big name recruits?

I'll tell you who probably wont commit: Brian Toal. Visited Tennessee last weekend and loved it. Says BC and Tenn are tops on his list.

Joe Manning also is most likely out. He's now considering staying in-state at FSU.

From the prospects list from the top of this site http://www.huskerbay.com/new/04_prospects.htm

I'd say Grixby (Coach Call visited Central last wk and impressed Grix) and possibly Calvin Darity(Tally), who has recently had phone talks with Coach Cally and Wagner and said he was reassured. The other kid from Tally who we still have a strong shot at is Rodney Gallon. He said we're tied with 4 other schools on his short list. (Tennessee, Auburn, Florida State, and Miami)

Anyone know of some others?

yep and I guess Coach Callahan is offering him the option to play cornerback or wide reciever, or possibly even both. but I doubt this would happen. He's just making it clear that Grix can play whichever he wants. KSU and Notre Dame are also in the pic, so he figures if they are limiting him to one or the other this will give us the edge.

BTW, heard of Rocky Hinds? Stud QB from Cali who was strong for USC is now rumored to be making plans for a late visit to Lincoln. As soon as next wknd even. probly still will stay out West, but a look is better than nothing.

and if nothing else this is a sign that the name Coach Callahan is turning some heads, and will be a good sign for the future. He has already got more "hmmmm, NU huh? maybe." responses from 4 and 5 star studs in the past 2 wks than we had over the past 5 yrs under Solich.

in the past Solich recruited with the philosphy that if another big time school was pursuing a kid strongly and he was intersted then we wouldnt even make an effort, mainly b/c we didnt have a shot. the result of this mentality was 7-7, 9-3, and probably worse next yr.

But it seems that with Cally alone we are making strides in areas we havent touched in a long time. Now just wait for the other new recruitiing "gurus" to start throwing their weight around! Im getting pumped and its only Feb!!

Thanks RedCountry, JRS and the Journal Star guy for your insight.

FYI Rocky Hinds (#16 overall player from TheInsiders.com; should decide on his school and/or visit NU this wk)

Some others planning visits:

Kenny O'neal (6-1, 195, 4.3 40, ranked #20 WR by Rivals.com - turned down FL & USC; down to Georgia, NU and one other)

Anthony Parker (6'4" 290 4.7 40 Off Guard from Georgia, visiting this wknd),

Darius Walker (Top 10 rated I Back from ARK, similar style to A Green - power game with mad burst).

Xavier Carter: (TheInsiders.com #1 WR, 6-3 190 4.35 40, #6 overall player; 5-Star WR from FL may visit soon)

Plus word is that Blake is already making Big Red waves in the crooting pool. Apparently these kids were originally interested in Miss St but now have NU at the top of their list:

Roland Martin (6-6" 340; 5.0 40; #2 O-Guard via Rivals.com, from ILL, Callys territory, #41 overall player from TheInsiders;Top 100 player in country by all 'crooting services, performed better than all Off Tackle at all star game)

Brandon Jackson (6-0 190, 330 bench, 500+ squat; IBack, Top 10 IBack, #54 overall player in country by ESPN, visiting this wknd)

Josh Winchell (6-4, 290; #30 O-Guard in nation from Miss, Big mean freak)

Vernon Smith (6-2 230; 4.6 40; #11 Inside LB via Rivals.com, wants to leave FL for college, will visit campus soon, good chance at this stud)

DT McDowell should make official visit soon also. Made unofficial visit last summer for bball camp.

by the way its lookin good also for this brandon jackson kid. as you said blackshirt he was recruited by Blake at Miss State who he really likes. he will be in lincoln this weekend and said that if it goes well he may comitt. this would be badass. hes the 17th rated rb in the nation with 4.39 40.

Also just heard Coach Cal is visiting w/ grixby again tonight. seems its down to us or notre dame who he visited last wknd. said he enjoyed it and the tradition and the campus is great and likes south bend, which is similar to lincoln, but we still have the best facilities in the country. apparntely ND wants him to play WR whereas we will let him go either WR or DB. said he feels more comfortable w/ Gill than the ND coach, b/c he has known him longer. said he would be willing to work with any DB coach we have on staff and would be real excited as a Husker.

to me this sounds very positive and I think he'll commit his heart & soul to NU later this wk.

Add Adam Blankenship to the mix of bad assess in town this wknd. he's a 6-4 240-pound defensive end from Tulsa. No. 25 ranked weakside defensive end nationally. Just denied MU a visit :) and turned down ARK, hah!

has it narrowed to Colo St , Tulsa and NU. I like our chances. It will depend on whether or not he wants to play close to home or get outta his backyard & expand himself and get an irreplaceable experience from NU.

Brotha you know what you have to do, for your present and your future, there is NO PLACE LIKE NEBRASKA!!

This kid, Brandon Jackson, is the real deal. Exactely what NU has been missing. Speed, extreme power, big time lifting numbers. But a huge problem is his grades. He got a 13!!!!! on his first chance on ACT. He is now waiting for his scorees to come in the mail.

This is what people have been talking about. NU, although they lost those coaches, the new coaches are going to bring their recruits in from where they previously were.
