Comish
A thread a few weeks ago reminded us that whether “our” candidate wins or loses, we are all in this country together and will need to move forward together to have a legitimate chance at fixing our current mess (es). Well stated. But I think it’s equally worth remembering that on January 20, we as a nation will inaugurate a President peacefully. Think about the uniqueness and power of that fact. When I was teaching, I heartily stressed to the students to not only acknowledge that fact but to celebrate it. In so much of the world, regime change occurs because of coup, or overthrow, or war, or subterfuge or fraud, many times accompanied by a bloody result. But in the USA it has always been peaceful and we remain a model for the rest of the world. We too, should celebrate that. 4 Link to comment
zoogs
+1 sir, +1. It's the bedrock of what make this country and its political system, for all its (some unavoidable) flaws and inefficiencies, great. Link to comment
rawhide
Just to remind everyone. We didn't start like that. Never forget that we had to fight to make the USA. It's good to remember the past, lest we repeat it. Now to our regularly scheduled programming. WITHOUT PONIES Link to comment
