Junior
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/sandra-park/norristown-pennsylvania-domestic-violence_b_3149120.html Last year in Norristown, Pa., Lakisha Briggs' boyfriend physically assaulted her, and the police arrested him. But in a cruel turn of events, a police officer then told Ms. Briggs, "You are on three strikes. We're gonna have your landlord evict you." Yes, that's right. The police threatened Ms. Briggs with eviction because she had received their assistance for domestic violence. Under Norristown's "disorderly behavior ordinance," the city penalizes landlords and tenants when the police respond to three instances of "disorderly behavior" within a four-month period. The ordinance specifically includes "domestic disturbances" as disorderly behavior that triggers enforcement of the law. Link to comment

huKSer
jeebus Terrible choices by the woman. After her first "strike," Ms. Briggs was terrified of calling the police. She did not want to do anything to risk losing her home. So even when her now ex-boyfriend attacked her with a brick, she did not call. And later, when he stabbed her in the neck, she was still too afraid to reach out. But both times, someone else did call the police. Restraining order. Home for abused women. Throw the bum in jail. Only now he is the "ex-boy friend" .. for now .. until she feels she can take him back and "help him" Link to comment

Junior
I don't think it is quite as simple as "a woman shouldn't put up with abuse". There has been a lot of research done on the psychological aspects of abusive relationships and the mental control the abuser holds on the abused. Link to comment
BigRedBuster
I fully understand that. It is almost impossible to make a blanket statement about situations like this because you don't know the exact situation here. However, I have known both situations. 1) Extremely controlling male in the relationship that plays the psycholotical game on the woman to keep her while he is abusing her. 2) Just plain stupid decisions by the woman where she stays with one guy or even gets into multiple relastionships where she is abused. When it's happens several times with multiple men, it's hard to claim that there is one guy psychologically keeping her in the relationship. Sometimes it's just plain bad decisions and people around her needs to help her realize the bad decisions she is making. Link to comment

Though I'm not sure that is the case here, as I don't recall reading anything like that in the article linked above. Regardless of whether or not a woman is making a bad decisions with a boyfriend or husband, do you think it is reasonable for her to have to decide in the midst of a beating whether she wants to call the police or not based on the prospect of losing her home?
