Ruud, Hochstein, Three Others Inducted Into Nebraska Football Hall of Fame

Ruud is at least third generation Hall of Fame. His father, Tom, a linebacker at NU from 1972 to 1974, is in the Nebraska hall. So is uncle Bob Martin, a defensive end (1973-75) from David City. And don’t forget great-grandpa Clarence Swanson (1919-22), who has a hall of fame award named after him.

“It’s a cool deal,” Barrett said on Friday, before the Hall of Fame dinner. “When you think about how you grew up, around football, and how fortunate you were to have certain people around along the way, it’s very meaningful.”

This year’s class is typical, with four former Huskers — Ruud (2001-2004), guard Russ Hochstein (1999-2000), offensive tackle Carl Johnson (1970-71) and guard Mike Mandelko (1980-82) and one state college rep, University of Nebraska at Kearney quarterback Justin Coleman.
