Basics

Perhaps the biggest indication that there is something fundamentally wrong with this program is the basics.

After 7 years, Bo Pelini's teams consistently commit false starts, fumble snaps, cannot pass block, cannot run block, and do not tackle very well. Even when we know the other team is going to do nothing but run the ball, we cannot seem to effectively stack the box and force them to beat us through the air.

Meanwhile, time and time again, teams are able to blow us out running very simple game plans on both offense and defense. You can look at the last few years' Wisconsin games alone and see that. In 2011, much was made about how Wisconsin only ran two different plays on defense because that's all they needed to bottle us up. In the 2012 CCG, they ran the same jet sweep or speed option play against and racked up 70 points without having to throw hardly at all. Today, they simply ran Gordon off tackle or dive plays on offense, and on defense they just stacked the box and blitzed.

What does it say about our program that we trip over ourselves trying to run exotic game plans while other teams completely embarrass us running the same two or three plays?
