The Bears (1-7) nailed eight of 13 treys to open up a 30-23 halftime lead. However, the Cornhuskers (15-6, 5-3) turned up the defense in the second half and held the Bears to 15 points on five of 24 shooting as they won their third straight Big 12 game. The Bears hoped to win their second straight game following a 72-70 win over Kansas State Wednesday, but they couldn't finish in the second half. “We definitely carried some momentum from the Kansas State game into this one,” said Baylor coach Scott Drew. “I loved the intensity we played with in the first half. We shot the ball well and played good defense. But we played like a young, inexperienced team in the second half.” The Cornhuskers got strong performances from senior guard Jason Dourisseau with 16 points and 10 rebounds, Wes Wilkinson with 15 points and five boards and center Aleks Maric with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Nebraska shot just 33 percent from the field but hit 20 of 22 free throws and dominated the boards, 44-27. The Cornhuskers also forced 19 Baylor turnovers. The Bears, who lost their 13th straight Big 12 road game, couldn't have played much better in the first half. Their offense looked fluid and the Bears repeatedly found open three-point shots. Aaron Bruce was especially hot as he nailed five treys and scored 17 first-half points. After Wilkinson scored the game's first trey for Nebraska, the Bears answered with 11 straight points as Bruce buried a pair of treys, Henry Dugat nailed a trey and Curtis Jerrells drove into the lane for a basket. Nebraska cut Baylor's lead to 13-9 but Dugat and Bruce hit treys. After Marcus Walker scored for Nebraska, Dugat hit his third trey of the half to give Baylor a 22-11 lead. But nothing went right for the Bears from the start of the second half. Maric scored inside and was fouled by Bruce, his former teammate on the Australian junior national team. Maric hit the free throw to complete the three-point play to cut Baylor's lead to 30-26. Tommy Swanson answered with a trey for the Bears but the Cornhuskers responded with 10 straight points to open up a 36-33 lead. Maric got the streak rolling with a hook shot for a basket and a putback. Wilkinson also scored on a hook shot before nailing a 15-footer. Dourisseau completed the run by grabbing a rebound and scoring. “This was the first time all year that we had a halftime lead,” Drew said. “But our guys are learning that on the road it's just tougher and you're not going to get the breaks that you get at home. Mamadou Diene got into foul trouble and Maric had his way inside. Easy putbacks will kill you.” Jerrells finally broke the ice by taking a pass from Bruce and scoring on a layup but the Cornhuskers went on a 13-0 run to take a commanding 49-35 lead. Maric scored on a pair of slams and Diene fouled out trying to cover him with 8:02 remaining. Bruce fouled out with 5:56 remaining after failing to score in the second half.
