Cincinnati: What Did We Learn?

Also for concerns:
8) Too many YAC yards- tackle Hugh around the shoulder pads instead of around the waist and thighs.
9) defense rushers many times did not maintain their lanes allowing the QB to squirt out for a first down run.

No, do you have an explanation for why the rankings are what they are and why they agree or not with what you think they should be?
Instead of being cryptic, how about you just tell me what you wanna tell me. I’ve already told you what I think about the PFF grades for QB’s pretty directly. Tell me why I’m wrong if that’s what you believe.

I'm trying to understand where you're at, which will inform the explanation.

Confused Ryan Gosling GIF

Went back and watched some film. Singelton is a horrible, horrible tackler. He lacks any sort of fluidity in the hips. He never actually tries to breakdown leading to him tacking horrible angles and trying to tackle someone by the jersey or air if they remotely cut back. There is 0 way he is going to play in the NFL. Jeudy is not a NT.

I learned a few things.

1. Bit of a rough first game for both teams, lots to clean up.
2. Arrowhead is, by far, the loudest stadium I've ever been in. That atmosphere was incredible!
3. Husker fans continue to show out; we took over Kansas City. I was running into people everywhere we went, continued through Saturday.
4. I remembered why I tend to stay out of the in game threads. The level of piss and vinegar in there is brutal.

I rewatched it, and some of the film breakdowns by Michael Rose-Ivey and Damon Benning. Came away feeling a bit better about the defense, Davis and Nwaneri in particular. I was still disappointed in:
  • Rocco Spindler - it got better as the game went on, but he had some whiffs in the run game
  • Haarberg - it's a tough defense to block as a smaller TE, but he also just had some ugly plays
We missed some chances to really step on their throat, and they missed some chances to really send us into "here we go again" mode. But there was more good than bad, and we've got a couple weeks to tighten things up and start allocating more reps to the guys who are playing better.

Also appreciated some extra context from Holgorsen - I know he said he wasn't criticizing, but calling them the "lowest tackling bunch I've seen in a long time" was not a compliment. And the early hit on Barney did impact their in-game plans with him, he was not 100%. I know a lot has been made of EJ's workload, but you do what you need to do to win. He can't do that every week, but if Mozee and Nelson can't quite be trusted in tight games yet I have no problem with the one-game workload. I hope to see a true rotation the next 2 weeks to figure out what else we have, then heading into Big Ten play EJ is back as the lead back but with a better plan to avoid 32-touch days.

Meanwhile SC qb Sellers stats against Va Tech:

12/19 209 yds 1 td 0 int Comp 63%
13 carries for 25 yds 1 td

“Superhuman” “Houdini” were some of the terms used by media about his performance

Is Dylan getting those same accolades with that stat line vs what he did @ Cincy instead?

33/42 243 yds 2 td 0 int Comp 78%
4 carries for -1 yds 0 td

No but he will if he keeps it up. It will take a "wow" play or two before the media jumps on board.

I'd still like to see a little more opportunistic rushing from Dylan, and a little less untouched stumbling and falling in the open field.
